The Baltics Capitals: Memories of OAT: Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland & Poland--October 2024
This was my tenth trip with Overseas Adventure Travel (OAT) which was most outstanding. The trip begin with a pre-trip in Poland where I met three additional travel companions and we visited Krakow, Auschwitz, and Warsaw. We were joined on the main trip by eight additional travelers and we visited the following places: Lithuania: Vilnius, Klaipeda; Latvia: Riga; Estonia: Tallinn; and Finland: Helsinki.
Our trip leader, Erika, was with us throughout the entirety of the trip and she was most outstanding! There were numerous local guides as we traveled through each country and they all provided excellent cultural and historical information throughout. There was the added bonus of traveling during the month of October as the fall foliage was very spectacular in many areas. The birch trees and rural areas made for a beautiful travel days when we were out for longer bus trips.
I must admit that I had limited knowledge of this part of the world. I was most astounded by the Medieval history of Poland as well as the more recent and tumultuous history of the Baltic countries. It was difficult hearing the stories as told by locals of being taking over by Nazis Germany only to be followed by then the take over by the Soviet Union. It was hard to grasp how the people in the region have only had their freedom for the past 30 years, yet have done such an amazing job setting up the governments and economic policies. Americans should definitely travel here and listen to the horrific stories as told by people to better understand and appreciate what it means to be a free democratic nation. It's extremely disappointing to realize how Americans take for granted personal freedoms while the Baltic peoples have had to fight so hard to attain theirs.
One of the most moving and memorable parts of the trip was having the opportunity to hear the personal story of a Lithuanian woman who was deported to the Gulags in Siberia when Russia took control of the control of the country. Irena Špakauskienē is a most remarkable survivor and her experiences in Siberia will leave a most long-lasting impression upon you!
I am definitely recommending this trip and one which you may want to take sooner rather than later with regards to what Russia is currently doing in Ukraine. The hotel locations provide easy access to old town centers and local transportation is cheap and easy to use. I felt much safer walking around at night in these cities than I would have in most U.S cities. One of the hotels used is in a converted jail which brings a grand ambience and local flavor. Great food that's extremely reasonable and many cultural shops and restaurants are easily accessible in each city. Again, a highly recommended trip!

Thank you! Currently in Tallin Estonia on the OAT Baltic Capitals trip…we have had some cold days on this and very windy! Have a great trip! It was one of my favorites with OAT!
Thanks for the quick reply! That's definately their winter so, based on the weather data OAT supplied, we should be at least 10° warmer (NZ). Still think I'll take my puffy jacket instead of the vest I had packed. Nice photos!
We went late May to June! It was quite cool and colder at night in Tasmania. Snowed while we’re in the higher elevations there! New Zealand was very cold at night and depending on where you were it was much cooler during the day! There were many places it was perfect during the day! I actually had to buy warmer clothes (heavy jacket) for New Zealand. Mainland Australia was most pleasant both night and day. The night we camped in the Outback it was very very cold! There was actually a camp fire for us to sit by!
Which month was that? We leave next week and expected coolish weather but you guys are really bundled up!
This is a bass heavy song yet the video barely shows the bass player. Completely ignored his solo.
Interesting! How wonderful that you have such a passion and knowledge of the original!! Truly! I'm not certain exactly what you are referring to, but my experience of them playing live was very different! It is also worth noting that Ritchie Castellano, the guitarist, and founder is also a brilliant bassist. They are all accomplished multi-instrumentalists. Regarding the tour, many folks commented that the bass was very evident, if not a bit too present in the mix during the current tour. **There will never be another Chris Squire and achieving the balance they had together may never again be to everyone's satisfaction. How blessed are we who had the privilege of witnessing something so untouchable!
Is the capital theater show a short Anderson setlist? Song list lacks due to the ELP thing. 😢
No, this was a full show when I saw it! Well over 2 hours!
Woandeful song magnific show
It truly was a great show! Hope there is one more in him! Thanks for comment!
@@donmarsh6002 Amen!!!
Great slide show of your expedition. I am absorbing every antarctica trip and looking forward to my experience when I go February 2025. Thanks for your beautiful video!
I have traveled to a number of places and there is nothing like Antarctica! You will have an amazing trip. Just be prepared for the Drake Passage as I hope it's not as rough as when I traveled back! I'd still do it again though! Hope you travel with a great ship and crew too! My G Adventure staff were amazing! Have a truly GREAT time!!
How will they shout at each other with the click language tho?😂
Good question!! :)
I am a Xhosa but sixabana qho kwaye aside siqhelane kakubi or siqumbelane just relating with the hadzabe clicks 😅
@@akhonabeseti3783 And I thought we only did that mostly in the U.S. Thanks for your comment!
Japan is an amazing country..I visited there twice last year..3 weeks in Jan...and 2 weeks in late Nov early Dec...I stayed in Shibuya during my first trip for a few days..Loved it!....I then stayed in Ariake for a concert at Tokyo Graden Theater before traveling down to Kagoshima..and returned via Kumamoto, Hiroshima, Kyoto, Osaka and back to Tokyo....And during my second I stayed in Yokohama (for another concert), and Tokyo..During my first trip I stayed in the Shibuya, Ariake, Kanda and Ueno areas of Tokyo...During my second trip I stayed not far from Shimokitazawa, and Akihabara.
Truly a great country and hope I can return soon! Thanks for sharing your great times!
Yo,Don!yeah, amazing traveler, so long,😲

Totally agree! He was sold out when I saw him!
Its a crime there is still no official video of one of these concerts. I guess the ticket sales are very good.
OMG IM A HUGE FAN 0:48
Don - Stumbled across this while "poaching" a look at your OAT Africa videos. I think we are going there next in August maybe. 40 years ago? My favorite band - I saw them at Winterland, (seated 5400), in San Francisco in 1974. 50!! YEARS AGO!!! Winterland - apparently torn down and now apartment buildings since 1985. Can't stop progress although even at the time in 1974, with 5400 people rocking out nite after nite, IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN CONDEMMED. But of course WE DIDN'T CARE. Great video... Still love listening to Yessongs!
Yes, they were always one of my favorites! Had the great pleasure of meeting them all! Met Jon twice and truly a great person! He wanted my bow tie I wore to his show with Jean Luc Ponty! He still has the most incredible voice! Never could really enjoy Yes as much after he left. He’s out on tour again now with the Band Geeks but unfortunately not in the DC area! I highly recommend if he’s near you! My first was their stadium tour at RFK in mid 70s!
How fun! Thanks for sharing, Don!
Many thanks for your comment! They were just great fun to watch and watch play follow the leader!
😊
And very cool that Mr Anderson has the sense to bring the music alive with such excellent and simpatico musicians. Jon does the legacy justice in his choice, and the young(er) musicians in their performance. It's young man's music!
Hats off, Band Geeks: what an accomplishment! You guys have more energy and insight into these songs than many decades of performances by the guys who wrote them. What a joy!
So sad they are not returning on the new tour to the DC area! Will have to find the closest city now! Awesome stuff!
No disrespect to Mr Squire, but that's how you solo the intro bass
Glad someone else thought that! Chris was always amazing, but this was great!!

Yeshua is Lord
@underminethetroll2487 You don't even believe that boy. Also, you wouldn't say a word if I stood in front of you. I a do anything to your sister. You wouldn't stand in front of me. Little boy.
All religns are man-made
No bro...Allah can't create anything. Only Yeshua. The Almighty Lord
Stellar dude. Saw him near the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney during the weekend. First time I’ve ever tipped via EFPOS lol
Excellent and excited voice. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
So sweet and smooth your beautiful voice. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Leave them alone ...... And continue the way of life for another thousand years ....
❤️🇵🇭
Can they really write those names
Why not? What's different from writing the "S" sound in your name?
❤ kiaora ehoa, love my māori tāne and wāhine
Yes, don't we all! Truly great friendly people! Thanks for your comment!
How do they spell the language
I am certainly no expert in this but I believe we were told it comes from the Hadza language group! Sorry I couldn't be more definitive!
His voice is a freak of nature
Truly is a voice you can never forget!!
TREASURE ❤❤❤Beautiful The Holly Creator's ELECTED People✊✊✊💪💪✌️✌️✌️
I seen him last night in Brisbane
Hope you enjoyed him as much as I did!!
I had 9 in my front yard yesterday and had to block my ears
Wow! I can only imagine! Like a little mini rock concert with Kookaburras!
Demaisss!!!
Sim sim! Foram otimos!
Wow!!!. Astonishing vocal performance by Jon Anderson. Especially given his age (78). So blown away by the band as well. My first experience of Yes live was the Tales tour in 1974. Honestly this matches that performance, maybe even surpasses it. Andy's drumming is superb.
Let's hope there is more in the future!! Truly great stuff!
You've done it again. Lovely, just lovely.
I was hoping you would like this one!! Happy 4th!
Amazing weather for the West Coast. Your lucky day
It truly was and much of our trip as we kept hearing how much it generally rains! Truly a beautiful land!
This is AWESOME! Thank you for sharing and bringing back wonderful memories of a trip packed with memories, Don.
My great pleasure and so glad we had the opportunity to travel together!!
Don. thanks! really superb done! have a great day,
Many thanks for your comment! Still really a rookie at this stuff! You have a grand day too!
One fourth of The "Tasy" four, along with Toscano, thank you for these memorable photos.
You bet Jerry! It was such fun and pleasure traveling with you all!
Thank Goodness you found these guys, Jon...... A Perfect Mach. I'm a great fan of Yes since the very first album and I know every single note of every instrument in all of the songs and the Band Geeks are being incredibly competent! If I may say just one thing, I would ask to have more volume on the bass and perhaps more attack from the excellent bass player, as the main feature of Chris Squire's was his unmistakable sound which was the hallmark of the band.... So....MORE BASS, PLEASE!!!! CHEERS AND I SALUTE YOU ALL.
Those African people don't look right wearing those European clothes. They should just have on the clothes they made up that fit them
Tight and powerful performance! I wish I were there!
The best music ever…I miss this
Thank You for sharing this. Amazing sound quality from a mobile, yes? Again, great to hear this band with Jon Anderson.
You bet! Many thanks for your comment! I am hoping he has one more round of tours at some point!!
