    I have a 83 regal, and I’m thinking of picking up a 73 Pontiac 350 was curious to know if you used the original tranny on your Pontiac? And did you use the original motor mounts?

    • @HOMEWORK4.0
      @HOMEWORK4.0 6 місяців тому

      Thanks for watching. I took the motor mounts off the original v6 that came in the car, and put them on the transplant engine. I didn't have to move anything! Everything bolted right up including the original transmission as well. All BOP transmissions will interchange. Chevy transmissions won't fit to a BOP engine without an adapter plate. It sounds your project will go just as easy as mine.

      @alexisvalenzuela4033 For sure, glad to help. I hope it goes well for you. I learned along the journey, building the Buick 350, was much more expensive than a Chevy because parts are much harder to come by. I'd be interested to learn the same about your Pontiac motor.

      How much more difficult is it to swap a Chevy 350 instead of the sbb 350 would you think?

    • @HOMEWORK4.0
      @HOMEWORK4.0 6 місяців тому

      @@alexisvalenzuela4033 Really not sure. I know there are other holes in the frame to accommodate other engine options as many different engines came in these cars. I chose the Buick 350 because it is the father of the Buick 231 that Pontiac used in their Grand Prix's. If I would have went for a chevy 350, I would have had to also replace the transmission to a chevy th350 and after the cost of the Buick build, there was no money left in the budget! Hahah

      Thanks for the compliment! This engine was quite the project and was happy it ended successfully! I consulted some buick experts along the way when I ran into some issues and ALL the cleaning work I did, which took about 2 months working on it after work. I spent money on bearings, rings, seals, camshaft, lifters, carb, timing set, new front timing cover/oil pump rebuild kit, waterpump, tune-up parts, and a machine shop trip to re-sleeve cylinder 8. This is not to mention buying/renting tools to do the job, like an oxy/actyl torch kit and tanks, solvents, and cleanup supplies. I reused a lot of parts because you can't find them anymore or the cost for replacement was way too much for an old Buick. For example, the thermocoil choke spring was $400 used on ebay!!!! Needless to say, I reused the one I had. Setting time aside, calculated money only, I'd venture to say I spent $2000-2500 pre covid prices, including the cost of the engine @$300. I did 99.5 percent of the work myself. If you have a lot of working accessories already and are just looking to freshen up the engine, that would definitely help you out on cost. Let me know if you'd like my contact info and I'll provide my email if you wanted to chat more about your upcoming project since I've been there. Hope this helps and have a happy holiday and merry new year!!

  • @jeremylocs2722
    @jeremylocs2722 Рік тому

    Thanks for going out of your way to help others. The task of assembly is enough aggravation on its own. Is there any logic or wisdom to assembling each end frame so that their angled braces run opposite to eachother? Your left frame shows its angle brace pointing upward toward the wall and the right one shows the angle brace pointing downward toward the wall. My directions show both angle braces pointing downward toward the front of the shelf. It likely won't matter but if your directions are the same as mine you may notice the minor aesthetic issue and go nuts whenever looking at it. If you are a perfectionist this may lead to the frustration of reassembly. For those who have not noticed, make sure that each wire deck is laid so that it is completely flat on the upside. If you lay each deck upside down you won't be able to slide a box from one end of the deck/shelf to the other as there are 3 or so wires that protrude on the [upside-down-laid] surface...note that the build of your wire decks may differ from mine though. If you want the shelf spacing to look exactly like the directions make sure to squint when looking at the directions to count each hole on the frame ends between each shelf. I found the directions extremely annoying, kinda like Ikea directions. The Spanish and French edged me right out; manufacturers should include separate direction booklets. It would also be nice if the pictures were bigger and Husky added the small details I noted above. I saw a video with these shelves on castors so adding them to the bottom is a good idea if you tend to rearrange your room alot. But castors are expensive and I'm only adding them since I have old castors lying around. If doing so make sure to secure the back of the shelf to the wall as castors remove the option of securing the unit to the floor. Simply install a few screws into the wall (Simpson brand makes load-bearing type...for extra security) and quickly remove when you decide to cart the shelf to a different spot in the room. Although these shelves look sturdy in-store they are not as rigid (and heavy) as the orange ones that Home Depot places their products on. You may be able to purchase a bunch of the super heavy-duty orange ones on an online auction for cheap. However, these shelves are heavy-duty enough for most, especially when you secure the unit to the wall AND floor. As of July 2023 you can pick up the new 77 inch Husky version in black or red at The Depot for $298 Canadian as oppose to the 90 inch version for a whopping $498CDN. I kept buying stackable bins but then I saw this shelf and realized how much money I wasted. Whether it be stackable Husky, HDX, Mastercraft or Craftsman storage bins, you will eventually break a lid when using the bin stacking method. This will happen when you are trying to find something in one of the bins which happens to be at the bottom of the stack. The lid will shatter when lifting the lid to take a peak and you can't buy a replacement lid since they are only sold with the bin included. Stick with the shelving method, ditch the bin stacking. Hope this helps.

    I’ve seen a lot of videos with this similar wood stacking. Is there a reason why they aren’t stacked like Jenna pieces with no gaps? Wouldn’t it be safer to have a tower of wood without any holes/ hollowness?

    • @HOMEWORK4.0
      @HOMEWORK4.0 Рік тому

      That's a great inquiry! The wood is quite restitant to tension and compression for the short length its cut, if the pieces were longer, for the same degree of force applied, the wood would deform more. More deformation = more force required so the overall stiffness (not strength) is higher. Quite similar to pushing the short end of a lever with a spring tying down the long end. Also, it keeps cost and weight down and doesn't compromise safety. :)
