Culture Night in 'Top of the City' Garden 2022
Our Culture Night event on 23rd September went really well, leaving us with many joyful memories. We would like to thank everyone who joined us that night to celebrate the end of the season. You made our night very special and we feel grateful for being a part of our thriving community.
We would like to take this opportunity and thank a few people and organisations, who contributed their time and resources to make our Culture Night evening organised and unforgettably beautiful:
............................................................................
Lola O'Sullivan and Eamon Quinlan for their inspiring speeches - thank you for supporting us and investing in our small community! We feel grateful for being able to share the results of our hard work with our official representatives.
Kieran Foley from Munster Express, Joe Evans from News and Star and Aaron Tobin Dower from Waterford In Your Pocket for covering our event - thank you so much for remembering about us!
Séamus O Brien and Goma Gallery of Modern Art for lending us easels - thank you for saving our display!
Stephen Whelan from Waterford Area Partnership for delivering chairs and our community art-piece (you could see it displayed in the greenhouse) - a massive thank you for helping us!
Michelle Byrne, our Local Community Safety Rep, for the positivity, writing skills and being there when needed - thank you so much, Michelle!
Rebecca Cappuccini, Mick Daniels and Paul Kamp, for organising live music on our wooden stage - the night wouldn't be the same without your commitment!
Dylan and Amanda (The Calypso Duo), Mick Daniels and Luna Juniper for their mesmerising performances and amazingly positive energy - thank you for sharing your beautiful tunes!
Fiona Holt Guthrie and Fergal Walsh (The Saltee Gannet), who served delicious food from the coffee trailer during the event - thank you for your time and energy!
Claire Breen, who bravely attended our Garden Harvest Stall, selling fresh produce from our local community gardens - thank you, Claire!
A massive thank you to Sinead Wheeler, who donated her organically grown veg - thank you, Sinead!
Special thanks to the Hive Garden, Paul the Egg Man and Bernadette Kervick from Ballybeg Greens, for the most beautiful supply of fresh produce for the event.
Eliya Lavine and The Seed Scholars for providing extra learning experience for our visitors - it was absolutely amazing to have you there!
Annette Wallace, one of our amazing community members, for all the work she put into research about the history of the Cavalry (Artillery) Barracks - thank you, Annette, for your inspiring commitment!
Lucy Aughney and Waterford Central Library (Lady Lane) for sponsoring the exhibition - thank you for such a positive approach!
Bill Deevy and Simon Beechey from DVF Print and Graphic Solutions for all the patience in the world and their professional approach to preparing the exhibition - thank you!

Ayse Leflef for inspiration and enthusiasm in being our Seed Bank lady - thank you, Ayse, for your uniquely beautiful aura!
Tony Flavin from Tramore Garden Sheds for another solid wooden structure, custom-made and transformed into a Seed Bank - thank you, Tony!
Anna Jordan from Waterford Arts for a very efficient correspondence and financial support - being a part of the Culture Night network strengthens our community bonds and makes our members feel more powerful - thank you!
Paul Kamp for providing wheat grains for feeding the chickens - the kids absolutely loved throwing the grains over the wall!
Claire McGowran and Madeline Campbell from WE ACT Campaign for a positive cooperation - we feel privileged to be able to share the outcomes of our community work with on-line audiences- thank you!
Oliver Dowling, Dee Grant, Paul Kamp and Maghnus Lally for all the hard work during the preparations just before the Culture Night - we wouldn't have been ready for the event if it wasn't for you!
All our community members who helped with preparing the garden for the event - the aspect of togetherness is one of our favourite parts - thank you!
We would also like to send our appreciation to those who weren't mentioned above (please forgive us!) but played important roles in our every day actions. All supporters, motivators, neighbours, volunteers and sponsors - a giant thank you!

We feel grateful for our cooperation with the Council, who has been supporting our actions from the very beginning. Our current licence is signed for a period of almost 5 years, which is very encouraging and motivates us to make long-term plans. The garden, being located in between the walls of the old Artillery Barracks, is slowly becoming our local mini-attraction. Unfortunately no treasures ...

Before the old St. Joseph’s House on Manor Hill gets a new lease of life, we couldn't resist but fill the walls with music. Former Little Sisters of the Poor's mansion is now empty and falling apart, but will be soon transformed into 71 residential units. Until then, let the music live there, echoing in the corners.

'Cannons and Horses' - Top of the City Garden Art Exhibition

Our very first art exhibition turned out to be a great success! The Mayor of Waterford, Cllr. Joe Kelly, left the garden with a huge organic broccoli and the music in his ears. Eddie Hill played until the very end, brightening up our souls with his beautiful voice. And the weather was absolutely fabulous!

What a brilliant and facinating documentary. Having lived in Waterford and served in the Infantry Barracks up the road, it was very very informative. This is definately a must see for all historians. A big thank you to Annette for pointing me in the direction of this history lesson. I wish ye much success in the future for your exceptional work. Thank you.

Great job. Hopefully when over post Covid I can take a walking tour of both the Artillery and Infantry Barracks. The latter occupied by my father in March 1922.
