"Nobody cares about that dirt." ??? What? Brah, you get mana, that's good. But no say people no care about the the aina.
there is land. That is an insult to the Hawaiians.
Hawaiian housing is difficult. My kupuna waited 45 years And a'ole.
Funded by Oprah to get those pesky Hawaiians to quit complaining about losing their land...
Here's a way, tell Bishop Estates give us back our land!!!
live in the present and learn from the past and remember where u came back!! and start to make the future great!!
Always the whites that want to speak for us real Hawaiians smh
Your not Hawaiian ur white lol even the pidgin you speak ain’t even Hawaiian Pidgin was created by Asians and other races trying to learn English when sent to Hawaii for plantation work. Nothing about it is Hawaiian same with this haole no Hawaiian has white skin, blue eyes and straight thin hair 😂 we have melanin and curly/afro hair and we don’t need to wear shades indoors to hide . Pilau this guy tryna cover his blue eyes cuz he tryna cosplay as a Hawaiian nobody buying it 😂😂
At the airport I heard the AI trying to talk pidgin… 😂😂😂😂
Going to Hawaiian immersion school doesn't mean Hawaiian is your first language. Hawaiian is your first language only if both your parents spoke only Hawaiian in the household and you learned it there.
That’s exactly Kamaka’s upbringing. His dad still only speaks Hawaiian to him and his siblings
@@KeepitAlohaPod Interesting. Then Keao NeSmith should be considered a native speaker, yet he doesn't consider himself as such. Do you know why that is?
There's evidence to support the idea that ancient Hawaiians practiced gambling, specifically c*ckf*ghts. Kamakau's Ruling Chiefs talks about how after the incident with Captain Cook, they used a certain part of his body to create a ring for c*ckf*ghts.
No, no, no!
Hiloooooo 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Unko Kimo is da bestest on your show. Mahalo nui ❤🌺
Brother Noland said it best. Too many people not enough sand
Hilarious!!!! 🤣😅 Great interview... I grew up with Frank, Andy, RAP, etc... Augie, I'm starting to like.. Didn't know 'bout him till I went to Andy's podcast... Tanks fo dah laughs...!!!
Wow. Hawaiians work all kine jobs. And make connections and actually are still Hawaiian beings on the job. Someone can moralize what they personally do and think its the epitome- thats their choice to tell everyone what to do for the Låhui. Hawaiian families still have to eat and pay rent and school fees etc. one can have all the 'ike and assume they know and yet not embarassed to make accussations but not interested in concersations to confirm. Smear. Definitely all kine kanaka in the community and all have a legitimate right to be here.
Maybe 30,000 people speak 'ōlelo. We have to convert non kanaka in every area so THEY care. Because they are the majority. They need to care about us, 'åina, history, practice. And just like during and post denationalization of the Kingdom of Hawai'i kanaka started to think American due to propaganda. It can be reversed. If people don't want to participate to ho'oHawai'i the majority culture here in Hawai'i nei which is not Hawaiian and which frankly does not reflect Hawaiian values and longevity of pono- it doesn't, look at the massive mismanagement and consumerism and neoliberal culture- if people don't want to be part of that, they shouldn't. However, I think it literally has to happen if ever we are to actually have a strong base in political economy, health and wellness of our community, temporal stability, and continuation of pono. The pono has been disrupted. We just have to look around at all the invasive, pollution, theft, sickness, lost behavior, posturing. If we want pono, then we have to help them truly connect to the piko of this place.
Yeeeesssssaaaahhhh Aloha and Mahalo Bradha Uncle aloha love 💕 you all long time and More Mahalo Ke Akua Amene💗🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶praises &Honor Loyal Love to you love 💕 💜💜💜💜💜🌸🌸🌸🌈🌎💯🎵🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺❤️🌹🤟🏽🙏♥️✝️
F*****g white foo
Shades to hide his blue eyes.
Esta republica que nasceu de um golpe nos tirou a chance de ter uma grande imperatriz. Princesa Isabel teria entrado para história como grande monarca assim como a rainha Elizabeth II
Don’t listen to this guy. He owns land. He maybe a quarter Hawaiian.
I get what he is saying, but no. I have lived in the Hawaiian islands for nearly 9 years; roughly 2 years on each of the 4 major islands. Hawaii is a special place. You can house the presence of God wherever you go, but only Hawaii is Hawaii. 🙏❤️✝️
Love it brah, come up to lahaianluna shop class and talk with my students!! Mr gabe
OREO cookie!
No matter where the British go, it's still Great Britain.
Enjoys the rights of being an American. But the illegal overthrow of sovereignty overshadows that. Resentment and resistance are very much alive in today's culture in Hawai'i. Great detail is given regarding ancestry. Except Caucasian. Then it's haole, no matter what regions and culture(s) one's ancestors are from. 50 years ago, things were way more rugged. High schools had this thing called Kill Haole Friday. Sometimes Slap a J*p Tuesday.
I know braddah joking but its true and sad how expensive housing and cost of living has become for hawaiians and locals that have been here for generations.
No you don’t, but let’s not make like being Hawaiian in Hawaii isn’t important. This sounds like someone trying to justify not being in Hawaii and that’s fine but don’t make like the Hawaiians in Hawaii trying to stay here and working hard isn’t important, get your head out of your ass
It's like that one South Park episode.
What?!?! Hawaiians no make sense sometimes haha
Wow, another name I haven't heard in years! Thank you for interviewing these legendary figures of Hawaii.
I agree with Kumu Keao, ke ao nei au I ke olelo hawaii from Kumu Maluhia, hands down one of the best along side Kumus Keao and Tuti Kanahele. Listen to Niihau natives such as Malaki Kanahele or Kamalamalama Kelley. Listen to these kanaka and olelo as much as you can with whatever you know if you'rea beginner like me. One day we will all olelo with each other publicly. My ohanas roots are from Kona and Kauai even though im born and raised all my life in Makaha. My great grandmother was the last native speaker in my ohana before the lineage was broken and olelo hawaii ceased to be passed on, she was born 1911, 18 yrs after the overthrow, 13 yrs after annexation, her parents (my GGs) were born during an active but waning kingdom but olelo hawaii was still their native and they passed it on to her. Its sad because she would go to elementary school trying to greet in hawaiian, (Aloha kakahiaka kakou, Aloha kumu, o wau o Cecelia) and then get either stopped and told to speak English or just ignored outright until she did because of course everything is western curriculum now. So she grew up like many other kanaka not passing it on because why bother if their keiki were also going to be ignored. So here I am trying to learn now and reaquire our olelo.
That’s what minorities feel everywhere else buddy.
What is the 1% that’s African? Lmfao 🤣
That's cute🎉🎉🎉🎉
I don't respect anyone who wants money from the government instead of working and earning it.
I think it would be funny to read a haole court stenographer's written recollection of court cases involving Hawaii people, born and raised. hahaha!
for the record your honor...
anyway, if they no let then you can just make up one. use your imagination. Write a book about the difference between Clarance and Clearance for example.
Anybody ever heard about this before or is this a big island thing? I'm not too sure. Could be a generational gap. I'm not too sure. I can't remember where I heard this before. Only that it was funny and about language.
Hahaha! I was at Timbers on Jones in Vegas talking with the bartender and my haole hubby. There was a African American lady sitting next to us at the bar. My husband mentioned I was from Hawaii. The bartender said I didn't sound like it because I don't have the accent. The bartender said he liked the accent and asked if I could say something in 'papa' English. And my hubby piped in like yeah! Say something! I said to the bartender, I speak like this for your benefit. I can't just turn it on and off without purpose so, if you want me to turn it on, you're gonna' have to piss me off. I gave my husband stink eye. The African lady got it and started cracking up laughing.
🙄👀👀
Love the back story and historical references. You have such a great channel. Mahalo! 🤙🏽
When my 4 year old granddaughter got to see Hawaii for the first time she asked if we were in a different country.
How he said he was entertaining the people of hawaii❤
❤ 🌺 maika'i loa, Uncle Kimo 🎤 🎶 + fo da new generation 🤙🏽
True, kids have important things to say. Every now and then, they say it with words. It's mostly their actions that speak the loudest. ❤
