That was lovely 😍
Thanks for watching!
My spidey senses went off when she invited that man to her house!!!!! I felt so bad for her getting deceived by “David”. What she thought was a connection could have gone wrong!
Haha that means he was cast well! Glad you enjoyed it!
I’ve been an empty nester for a few years now and this really struck a chord. Amazing job. 🥲
I liked the film, she is a fabulous actor, but honestly she said when her husband died she had "two plants to water... the kids and/or my romantic life" That struck me as weird. When my son's father left, I decided not to date because I didn't want anyone getting between me and my son. But I had PLENTY of other things besides "kids OR my romantic life" There's volunteering, friends, camping, gardening, etc. There are many many choice in life besides Kids OR Romantic Life.
Appreciate your insight! For many immigrants like Joy who come from a traditional Chinese background, they tend to keep those familiar values even though they’re here. I’m glad you were able to keep busy and find purpose, and I only hope the Joys of the world can find opportunities to open up and do the same!
@@qiricky Very good point! Excellent film, it left a lasting impression on me. 🤗
I appreciate you watching and leaving your thoughts here! Make sure to subscribe, I have some great stories coming out soon!
This is a lovely film. Joy is an awesome person
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
This is hard to watch, cruel that her daughter just left. Of course mom was upset when she didn’t show up for the major holiday. Came the the next day, but left bc mom was upset. Well of course she was. So you stay and comfort her, not run out.
Glad you felt so strongly about the film! Thanks for watching!
When the word TRUST comes into the equation, I wonder how to trust that the other person is as trustworthy as myself. There is so much deception around these days that it is hard to know who you can rely on! If it feels too good to be true, do you trust it, or can it!?!? 🤔
It’s so true. So much can’t be take for face value these days. Usually if it’s too good to be true, it’s good to go along with some skepticism!
Beautiful and so touching. Thank you
Thank you. Super appreciate you watching!
I love the ending daughter became. Her best friend teaching her how to date .and mother's are always amazing, making sure her kids have everything they need. This remind me of my mother. She always wanna feed us and make sure we have enough. Even come over and fill a refrigerator Mother's are truly the greatest❤❤❤
I agree! Moms are the best!
Not many films have left me speechless. Thank you so much.
Wow. That’s a huge compliment. If you enjoyed this film, you might like the other short film on my channel, Three Bows. Thank you for watching!
I'm so glad that you didn't give in to the temptation of giving her a happy ending walking into the sunset with a new soulmate. Because life isn't like that.lonliness is a huge problem in many societies now and hidden as a shameful secret, that somehow there's something wrong with you if you don't have lots of people wanting to be with you. People are just becoming more insular,as someone else said, modern conveniences means that a lot of people no longer need to have relationships when they can pay for every service imaginable and so they don't invest in friendship, neighbourliness or relationships. Even after the lessons of covid, people seem to be worse rather than fighting back.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I’ve never believed in happy endings, just ones where we try to do our best in once we come into recognition of our flaws. Hope you enjoyed it!
Such a sweet piece of work !!!😊
Thanks! Happy you enjoyed it!
wow! what a nice story, thanks for making it!
Thanks for giving it a shot!
This is beautiful. Just beautiful.
Thank you for the kind words. 🙏🏼
this was uplifting...well done to the whole crew ...quite a few succinct messages in this both from an age related viewpoint ...cultural ..and todays social media misuse as in dating apps
Thank you! I appreciate that you noticed these themes. Check out my other film “Three Bows” if you liked this one! ☝️
My mom she passed before i'm able to 😢do sacrifice for her
My chats on some dating sites exactly 😂😂😂. Spot on! And a techie savvy daughter would be such an asset to navigate you there, no doubt. But I don’t have one
Hahaha no way! Stranger than fiction!
Very good movie. It really touched me. The actress is very good.
Thank you for watching! I also have a new film out on my channel, Three Bows! Hope you enjoy.

kleenex.....
Thanks for watching! 😭
SHE got lucky.....about one in a hundred thousand!
Ha!
Beautifully made Ricky!! So much resonance in having to constantly negotiate the lives we live between our extended families back home and our family (and chosen family) here in the US!!
Thank you Neeraj! I appreciate it!
Delicate, intense, sweetly tinged with nostalgic notes. Ceasing to be messengers of one's own, native culture, involves a flattening to a monoform culture. I recharge my eyes with the profiles of the mountains to return to the origins. Every time I lose them for too long, I get lost. So I reach them and my breath becomes wider. Then I go home and cook a good plate of pasta alla norma😁
Thank you for the kind words, your insight, and your dinner menu. I accept all of it 😆
A small, precious film, full of deep humanity. P.S. She is fantastic! 🤩
Lee Chen is indeed! Thank you for the kind words!

@@qiricky looking forward to it!
im so hungry and I want dumplings so bad, but I have an almond mom who makes plain chicken and steamed veggies. lol
Come over to my place, we’ll pig out on all the flavors 😆
If people knew how many professionals immigrate to take low level jobs they would be shocked. I worked with an immigrant family where the dad was a doctor and the mom a nurse in Vietnam. They butchered chickens in Iowa and had two beautiful teen children. I think of them all the time and their graciousness amidst really terrible situations.
Yeah it’s pretty common, you could say a tale as old as time even. Like you said, always impressed by their resilience.
Kids all over can be pretty selfish and terrible. They simply don’t understand until it’s too late. I’m so sorry for this Mom. It’s one thing if the parents are really well integrated in the community and have friends, but particularly for English as second language parents, it’s very lonely and isolating. Online dating is also awful so good luck!!!
Was she Vietnamese?
Chinese American!
i cried so many times. So well written
Thank you!
This was amazing, the framing was amazing. Great work
Thank you!
As the daughter of a Taiwanese mother, I can so relate to the home cooked Chinese food, especially the dumplings! And even when they were fighting, how the mom tried to send her daughter home with them. Perfectly captured a Chinese mother! They truly show their love by feeding others. My beautiful mother passed away 13 years ago and I still yearn for her delicious food. I almost never go to Chinese restaurants because they can never live up to her food. God, what I wouldn't give to eat her food again. I hope by writing this someone else may see this and go visit their mothers, eat their food, learn their recipes, and just treasure the moments with them. 💗
Agree, nothing like home-made food! This is such a beautiful thought. Thanks for sharing with all of us!
Culture clash till the end ….
Some things can be reconciled. Others not. We just have to learn to live alongside it!
So sensitively handled. I loved the acting. Nothing over the top, very natural and the film delivers the message with finesse. Great job by the director and crew!
Thank you very much! Appreciate your encouragement!
What a guilt trip on her daughter...
It takes two hands to clap
I miss you so much mummy 😢
Thanks for sharing!
What a good movie.
Thank you!
reminds me of my chinese mom & grandma 💔 as much as i can’t stand their nagging and hurtful statements and constant criticism, i still wept at this and the thought of them feeling lonely. i know in reality i most likely won’t be able to retain a relationship with them forever as i am about to start HRT but god…if we could just find a way to connect and set boundaries so that we still could still be in each other’s lives somehow 💔 as much as they have hurt me i know that they were just doing their best. i know that they are just loving me the only way they know how to. i don’t want to completely cut them off from my life. i know i don’t have to, but i am willing to to sacrifice my sanity the way they have sacrificed their time, energy, and money into me growing up ❤️ i want us to love each other, as flawed as that love may be ❤️ i love you mom. i love you grandma
Thank you for sharing. Connecting and setting boundaries is a never ending process of finding out what works! Keep trying🌞
cool
Thanks!
For me this video represents 2 things: 1. Our desire to use our other half of the relationship in order to improve our status in society. Instead of feeling one with the soul that is in the body in front of us. 2. The legitimacy of taking out our frustration and bitterness on others, instead of exposing our vulnerability by expressing our true feelings. When she took out her bitterness on her daughter who arrived late for the Chinese New Year, instead of telling her: "Thank you for coming, I missed you, I feel very lonely." When she said to the first guy: "You're fat!", and gave him a devastating criticism and then pretended to be innocent in front of the service representative. Instead she could just be nice. talk respectfully, listen to him, be interested in what happened to him, to offer exercises from her experience, and from there politely say: "I enjoy the conversation, but I feel that we are not compatible", or "I was happy to talk to you and would be happy to talk again." Very simple, respectable, And very matter-of-fact. And so on. Before she decided to embark on this journey, she treated a patient who said he had been married for two years, she completely missed the look he and his wife were giving each other. This is a look of soul mates. She also missed that the man is not so "presentable" compared to his wife. All of this made her go on a journey to look for the man who would make her feel this way, without asking herself: "What do I bring to a relationship?". She did not understand that what she saw was an internal match between the two of them and she is constantly is looking for an external match. This video represents everything that is happening today. Although we are social animals, the factors that the film pointed out are the ones that make us live our lives lonely and unhappy. Even if we will never admit it...
I really like your observations. Thank you for sharing them.
Wonderful... delicate and precious.
Thank you!
