    I’ve deconstructed and then reconstructing my beliefs. My views have really shifted. I follow Jesus teachings, parables and principles that were confronting the Churches teachings and belief. Today’s church is a self serving enterprise changing as it serves their narrative. I can worship at a concert now if the songs are song that connect me to Gods Spirit. My music choices are base on Worship… Not about my deliverance. My view of salvation is almost non existent. God already exists within me… I didn’t need salvation , I needed realization… I left Church and God left with me… I can sit in nature and feel that same connection or look into eyes of happiness human or animal and feel that love, goodness and acceptance…

    Calling JK Rowling a one-hit wonder is just not true. I know she's bigot and all , it's so easy to discredit her achievements. But she wrote 7 best sellers , all in the top 20 best-selling book of all time. It's not an easy feat.

    All I will say is as a 32 year old that loved and grew up with Harry Potter and I still love it. I don't care for a reboot a animated series maybe but a full reboot it's a no for me I agree it's a very bad idea they will ruin a lot of peoples childhoods older and younger. As for politics I don't take sides I am staying very far far away from it same with religion.

    Girl, you were not comprehensively reading a Harry Potter novel (hundreds of pages long) at 7 years old...the age in which kids are being taught their most introductory level reading skills. Even if you were reading these books at 10, you were an advanced reader for your age. This whole story seems WILDLY unlikely...

      I was able to read practically fluently by the time I entered middle school at age 7. I started reading the Harry Potter series only a year or two later, and that wasnt because of reading ability, it was because my parents didnt get me the books sooner.

    For me if i call Harry potter bad I'm doing it because as someone who has loved reading my entire life and read so many things, its just pretty alright, it's mean spirited and wears it's fantasy elements as a coat of paint, but for so many people the magic that is reading became the magic that is Harry Potter because they just didn't keep going and find other stores worth investing themselves into

    I just re-read Harry Potter, and I find the books more enjoyable bc I get more of the day to day life of the protagonists, and it makes me feel like I’m a student right there with them. BUT, I noticed several things that were left out for good reason, as well as some minor changes in the movies that actually increased the tension, humor, or mystery of the scene. That being said I would not be mad at a remake of goblet of fire bc that was a let down. I also feel like the death of Sirius could be made more meaningful to the viewer if they made his relationship with Harry truer to the books. Non readers like my husband also really did not like Dobby, and I was sad that he was less of a character in the movies, and I liked Kreacher’s part in the book as well. I think it’s too soon for a remake, and not to be disturbing or rude, but at least some of the greatest actors and actresses who have passed away wont have to see their iconic roles recast.

    M. Night’s Avatar movie actually fell short because he wasn’t given *enough* creative freedom. The entire reason he wanted to make it was because his kids were *huge* fans of A:TLA, and he wanted to make an *extremely* faithful adaptation. Instead, the studio refused to give him a big enough budget for his vision, forced him to make a significantly shorter movie than he actually wanted, and forced him to make a *ton* of changes. This is unfortunately what happens with pretty much every bad movie of his, if you actually bother to do any research. But you couldn’t even bother to research that everyone hated the live action Avatar show or that everyone loved the Harry Potter scholastic book, so I’m not surprised you didn’t bother to research M. Night either. Side note: Aang is an *actual* South Asian name that’s pronounced the way it’s pronounced in the movie. M. Night, being South Asian himself, wanted to fix that despite the mispronunciation from the original cartoon being the most iconic version.

    I disagree on statements in this video made at about 27:30 and the adjacent parts about House Elves. Hermione Granger, the unambiguously smartest character in the book apart from maybe Dumbledore, is constantly complaining she is the only one bothered by the situation of the house elves, their own acceptance of this situation, and often nagging how stupid that is. She is trying to build an activism group for house elves, but eventually forced to abandon the effort for reasons of public indifference towards it. Please check your research about this topic. You are clearly missing this because it was cut from the films. I´m not writing this to alleviate obvious conservative beliefs of the author, but because its just not correct. Also, searching for "toxic" or "conservative" agenda in the book is pointless and misappropriate. The opinions and situations of characters in fictional works do not need to correspond to the authors own beliefs. From my reading (I have the english original print despite coming from Germany) the book is generally benevolent. It also is often critical towards problematic political situations, but does not claim to have solutions to them, so they are only shown as problematic, not more. This is evident for example in the situation with "bugging" of R.Skeeter in book 4. Hermione obviously can´t prohibit the yellow press to work, so she is powerless to change the situation except for preventing R.Skeeter to publish more indecent revelations about herself and her friends. ed1. yeah, after continuing to about 33:00 you notice this yourself.

    • @randomusername3873
      @randomusername3873 23 дні тому

      She gets crap for the activism because she's trying to trick the elves into freeing themselves when they are not ready to, which would make the situation worse, a lot like a lot of modern social activists are making the cause they fight for worse of

    This has such a GOATed Rowling take. I'm projecting my liberal American politics onto her, but I can't convince myself she was ever worse than some milquetoast Blairite when she was writing the books. Being an empty headed moderate and kind of racist was not crazy by 90s/00s standards. From that POV, she's interesting as a cautionary tale. I have decent, socially acceptable politics now. Could something turn me into a bigot in the next 30 years? This possibility gets totally erased by the insistence that she was always obviously some foaming at the mouth bigot if you just read the books right.

    My personal and looong opinion on harry potter as a whole (and the reboot) is: I am a fan of hp, I grew up with it and I will always love the world of harry potter. I don't agree with this new sentiment that just because of jk rowling (who I don't like either and I don't care about at all) people are now "Actually hp was really bad" "grow up/move on" "If you dare buy anything hp related that makes you a transphobe and a bad person"... If you want to distance yourself from the franchise because of jkr that is totally understandable but at the same time it does not mean that everyone that chooses not to should be berated? People do not like the series because they like jkr herself or agree with her views. I understand someone from a moral stance not wanting to fund a person actively working against trans rights but at the same time..hp same with other ips like star wars is too big and widespread, jkr is financially set for life just by owning the name, so no need to accuse people of directly supporting her by playing a game or buying a wand (that is just my opinion) Also adults can revisit a story they love and grew up with as much as they want and should not be shamed for it. And to completely deny anything good about it is a very biased and untrue take, there's a reason it became so popular, stood the test of time and is beloved by many people even today! Of course that does not make it perfect, I am very open to discussing and acknowledging any flaws, that doesn't change my love for hp but it does bother me when it solely comes from a place of resentment and bad faith. And I have critisisms of my own! that mainly comes from the books actually.. I don't think the writing is the best, as a children book it works but reading them as an adult it does not hold up as well, the world building of the wizarld world is not fully realised and that is because everything mainly revolves around hogwarts, some of jkr views does come off that rub me the wrong way for example the fatphobia is apparent and the misogyny as well in the way some female characters are portrayed and the other female characters treat them badly for no reason, I don't mind the house elf concept actually but I don't like the whole storyline of Hermione trying to advocate them and being ridiculed as a result, all the romances are baaad as well and do not work for me and the characters imo come off more unlikable than they do in the movies (except Ron maybe but even then I don't find him as egregious as many hp fans do in the movies) That's why the harry potter movies work so well for me (and in my unpopular opinion) are better than the books! They highlight the best parts of the books and the heart of the story, they don't show some other problematic parts, they make the story more fun with witty dialogue and all the character interactions. The casting is PERFECT and the characters are iconic. I wont understate how much good music and good direction plays a role in a succesful adaptation and the harry potter movies succeed in both in my opinion. Something does not have to be "book accurate" to be good and I feel a lot of book fans are too focused on the differences they forget to consider other aspects that make a movie/tv show good. Of course I'm not saying the movies are perfect either, there are some inconsistencies here and there and lack of information about the world and the characters that you should read the books if you are a big hp fan to get the full experience. But the positives still outweight the negatives in a big way imo. That's the reason I am not a fan of a this reboot idea.... It takes a lot to pull off a successful adaptation and the original has set such a high stake when it comes to style, direction, music, casting I am fairly certain they wont be able to recreate something as good in all those categories.. It may be more "book accurate" and that will automatically make it better in some fans eyes but that does not work on me. And as it is already stated, it is toooo early!!! The movies hold up just fine today and the actors are so closely associated with the characters no replacement will feel right... It feels unessesary and a cash grab and no amount of book purists is going to convince me otherwise cause as stated above the movies were never bad in the first place.

    At the point we’re at now I don’t think it’s necessarily true anymore that no one has been pushed further right by HP. It’s probably a lot easier for a cis person to draw that conclusion but as someone who’s personally been harassed by more than one person with a deathly hallows tattoo, I can only disagree. I’ve actually heard people say out loud that people talking about ‘cancelling’ JKR or boycotting her video game has pushed them away from supporting trans rights, and while I’m not stupid enough to think their ally ship was ever worth a damn or that we can change the minds of people so shallow and morally insipid, it’s hard not think that she’s pushing people to the right, or at least encouraging anti-trans rhetoric in regular people. Harry Potter definitely did help me personally develop my moral compass. Honestly it even helped me develop my gender identity; I used to pretend to be Harry when I was a kid, but I just really and truly think that it’s incorrect to claim that this series hasn’t pulled anyone into a bigoted mindset at this point in time. It’s definitely a small minority of HP fans, but it does happen. That aside, for me it’s tainted beyond the ability to enjoy it anymore for me, which I realise is personal, but anyone supporting any official HP merch or property is actively funding anti trans political activity in my country.

    30:19 - you've just blown my mind. Think of slaves after the American Revolution. Notably, there was a huge reactionary "revival" a generation later that closed off progress in women's rights and rights of minorities. Or the colonized peoples appealing for justice after WWI (and the myth that Wilson, dying of influenza, actually cared). In fiction, the last acts of the LOTR trilogy provide one of the more realistic tasks on war, when the greater conflict comes home to the hobbits.

      Nah, I gave the kid his full 22:46, and now I want my 22:46 back plus the time it took to write this comment. It's exactly the type of thing I'd expect to hear from someone who doesn't have any kind of Southern accent, doesn't have a single grey hair in his head, and hasn't fully done his research into the culture. Someone too young to remember 9/11, who was at best still in diapers when Bubba Sparxxx of Dungeon Family first coined the term HicHop and set the definition of the NuSouth, if we're going to be giving credit where it's due here. It's like the biggest body of water he's ever seen is an above ground swimming pool and now he's giving a 23 minute opinion about the ocean. I give him credit for being mostly accurate about the little bit he does know which seems to only music industry music, but he has no idea how deep it goes, he knows neither the shore nor the horizon, the wind nor the waves. I'd be interested to see the update video after he falls down the internet rabbit hole and discovers Gangstagrass, Colt Ford, Haystak "Crackavelli," Yelawolf, Demun Jones, JAWGA Boyz, and can explain why Charlie Daniels "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" is technically HicHop. I was born in 1980, HipHop itself and I are almost the same age, *I was there...*
