A Hot Ending - S01E10
I was sure that navigating through the smoke was going to be the hardest part of the day. Getting the sailboat out of the water was tricky, but we managed. We drove to the property and worked our way down the driveway and only a few feet from where the boat will store for the winter when our truck engine caught on fire!

    Just stumbled across this channel. It does not appear you are active with it anymore. Bummer. Just want to compliment you on your keen eye in filming. You hooked me with the packing up early scene, the coffee making and then the walk down the dock to the boat. These scenes really capture the anticipation and excitement I feel every time I go sailing. Nice Job!

    i own the san juan 21 1972, it has been alot of fun for my wife and i. we removed the mast and use it exclusively as a weekend camper and only use the motor for getting around, we have been to the dry Tortugas, Bimini allice town and many other spot along the FL ICW..... very comfortable and moves with such little force.

      Just the old bag and bucket if we really need it, but we're usually not out long enough for that to be an issue, but eventually something like a composting toilet would be great.

    I admire folks making the most of the beautiful Gulf Islands regardless of boat size! I started out about 12 years ago on a Catalina 27, and had a great time cruising around Saltspring/Galiano and beyond. While it is nice to have a bit more space on my current 33ft sailboat, I do sometimes yearn for the simplicity of a smaller, simpler boat like your San Juan 21! Keep an eye out for Sea Dream Of Clyde, and come say hello if you see us! There are always cold beers in the bilge to share! We are based out of Cowichan Bay, so around the area lots.

    • @weekendcruiser
      @weekendcruiser 3 роки тому

      Hey, thanks! That's good to hear. 33ft sounds like a great sweet spot for size. I was wondering how water got into your cabin? I have an SJ 21 that I am restoring and it has these 2 screw out plugs in the cabin...behind them is water...it seems weird to me but I was wondering if your boat has these. Mine is a 74 as well. I was pretty sad to to see water in my cabin!! It was coming from these screw out plugs. My stuff in the forward compartment in the V berth got soaked as well.

    • @weekendcruiser
      @weekendcruiser 3 роки тому

      Yeah the water leaking is frustrating. We may have the same issue? I'm pretty certain our leaks are connected to where the swing keel is attached to the hull of the boat. I don't think anything in the forward compartment was wet with our boat... but i could be mistaken, there was a lot going on out on the ocean haha - I hope to have answers soon, just waiting for the travel restrictions to ease here and fixing the leak is the top priority! Good luck with your restorations!

    the wood is teak, you can varnish it but varnish really doesn't like to stick to teak.. best thing to do is wipe it down with tung oil every 2 or 3 months, it will keep the wood looking good. clark boats were built pretty well, i haven't seen or heard of any problems in their fiberglass layups and the boats have an excellent reputation for being good sailers that handle rough water very well.

    I suggest that you buy an electric outboard motor as they are more reliable then the petrol and the battery can be recharged. If you do go that way get a spare battery so that you can have one on charge and one in use. Gerard.

    • @tronalpha9137
      @tronalpha9137 3 роки тому

      Thanks for the reply. With the solar panels, I would suggest two 160 watts and simply hang them to the second row of safety wires then tie up to the top row. they will not take up space on the boat. and the flexi ones as they are lighter. Happy easter. Gerard.

      It is a mast step. The SJ's came with a hinged mast step to make it easy to lower and raise the mast for trailering. The metal post in the cabin under the mast is a compression post. It transfer the compression load of the mast and rigging to the bottom of the boat.
