    Higher rates still haven't affected the majority of the economy and you won’t know the effect unless it’s over. Corporate bond rollovers are due mostly next year. Average government debt interest at 3.1% up from 1.6% two years ago will approach 4% then. Slowing nominal GDP currently 2x that interest could be even <1x. Lower inflation won’t “eat” the principal quickly enough like in the 1940s with the debt/GDP at the similar level.

    Friedland be honest sir. Donald Trump didn't say he wanted a tariffs on everything. He said he wanted to stop nations like China taking advantage of the US by charging high tariffs for US goods while the US charged them low tariffs. So he suggested raising tariffs to match their tariffs. You may agree or disagree with the strategy but it different from wanting to randomly put tariffs on everything.

    Four criticisms with Hannah's piece: *First*, she fails to explain that Trafigura is only interested in removalist credits, when (i) the Paris Accord is agnostic and (ii) climate action science is clear that cuts outrank removalism. *Second*, she fails to explain the role of Article 4 in enabling the MC Art.6(4) ER. *Third*, 2023 has seen the VCM hit by scandal after scandal because of removalism's overreach that has nearly destroyed its credibility (Verra especially caught). *Four*: because of removalism's scandals, 2023 has been a poor year of retirements in the VCM.

    🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:02 🎙️ This podcast, "Smarter Markets," explores redesigning financial markets to better serve participants and society. 01:42 🌊 Trader Mark Fisher used the Hudson River as a risk management tool, teaching young traders the importance of risk and reward. 04:44 💡 Mark Fisher's career started at 13, working for one of the largest silver brokers during the 70s and 80s silver boom. 06:36 💻 The transition from open outcry pits to electronic markets has changed the trading landscape, favoring high-frequency traders. 10:10 📈 Markets have become more profit-oriented, favoring high-frequency traders over their original purpose of facilitating commerce. 13:13 🔄 Slowing down market trading by a millisecond or two could reduce the advantages of high-frequency traders. 14:23 💰 Consider implementing a fee structure where liquidity providers trade for free or get paid, while market makers and high-frequency traders pay. 17:54 🤝 Explains how reckless trading by one customer can impact the accounts of others due to the shared customer segregated pool. 19:49 💡 Suggests that exchanges should have more responsibility in the event of an FCM (Futures Commission Merchant) default to protect customers better. 21:14 📊 Decentralized exchanges could improve risk management by automatically liquidating accounts with millisecond accuracy when they go margin deficient, reducing the need for manual intervention. 22:10 🔄 Decreasing leverage and increasing margin requirements in futures trading can significantly reduce trading blow-ups and market instability. 26:10 🛠 Providing traders with tools to set thresholds and implement risk management algorithms could help level the playing field against sophisticated traders. 32:36 🔄 Implementing an anonymous Request for Quote (RFQ) system in the futures market, accessible to all traders, could enhance liquidity and transparency while potentially making over-the-counter brokers less relevant. 40:57 🛢 The crude oil market wasn't broken when prices briefly went negative; it was a result of unusual circumstances, and the market's ability to find a clearing price, even if it was negative, is a feature, not a flaw. 41:26 📉 In the past, some traders waited until the last minute to exit their positions in the futures market, leading to market volatility and issues, such as in the December heating oil story. 42:22 📈 During the close of December heating oil, the market experienced a sudden spike from $1 to $2.20, but the exchange lowered all the prints to $1.70, causing significant volatility. 43:04 💼 The press often fails to question the actions of non-physical market traders, like a fund manager in China, who held long positions beyond expiration, highlighting the need for market knowledge. 43:31 🔄 Historical events in the market, such as the sugar market in the 90s, show that similar mistakes are made by inexperienced traders close to expiration, repeating themselves. 44:56 🧐 After options expiration (opex), position limits go into effect as the market is primarily for physical delivery traders, and guidelines are provided on when to exit. 45:24 🔒 Some firms had issues handling negative pricing and technical glitches during market turbulence, revealing the importance of robust trading systems and infrastructure. 46:19 💡 Mark Fisher discusses using blockchain technology for prescription drug coupons, creating incentives for biotech innovation while capping drug prices, benefiting patients and manufacturers. 48:40 💊 Contingent value coupons on the blockchain could allow non-profits and teaching hospitals to raise capital for drug development, fostering competition and innovation. 50:46 🌐 A website for more information on the project involving prescription drug coupons and blockchain is in development at dcm.com. 51:13 📱 In the next episode, Kirsten Stewart will discuss the role of social media in finance and society and the need for governance in this domain. I am impressed with Roberts ability to think outside the cube and freely discuss what many others are too frightened (of ridicule) to discuss. Reality and physics are far more interesting to me than flowery displays of intellect and virtue. It’s refreshing to listen to Robert speak, he is intelligent, articulate and fearless. it’s a shame he hasn’t worked out that anthropological global warming is simply a con, but I imagine his ‘super green daughter’ clouds any possibility to focus on the real climate drivers. His association with Gates is also concerning, but I guess if Gates is willing to fund research, Robert would be foolish not to cooperate…just be careful where that particular research leads!

    so, Keith, I have bad news for you. It is not possible to be a truth seeker and be a free marketer. Every single primary assumption (i.e. input) to the free market theory is false to fact. There is no other science about which this can be said. Deeper in, the whole notion of "equilibrium of markets" (you people are hilarious), to "quantized risk", to uncorrelated assets, and beyond to things like who it is that actually creates wealth, that actually creates GDP growth, all of it is lies, and you know that. To spend one's days making fun of economists is a perfectly fun sport. I do it all the time. But, then again, I know that their assumptions are false and the reality they are attempting to describe is beyond the capabilities of our mathematics, and thus perforce all we can do is approximate. Free Marketers by contrast, fall into two categories. Category 1 is those who *were* paying attention in econ class (and not already acculturated to an arrogant dismissiveness toward all intellect), and were paying attention in history class, and know what it is they do. I call them the sharks. Sharks know who and what they are, they being human sharks use not only brawn, but also brain, to conquer. That's what sharks do: conquer. The second category is those for whom college is a ticket to a finance job whose only real requirement is the gift of gab. I call this group remora. For, just like remora, they consume the meat that is too small for the sharks. These people have a great life, they get to go on tv, and tell their kids, what wonderful wholesome people they are. They get to indulge in all sort of nice guy hobbies, and vote for 'thoughtful' candidates. They get to line their walls with trophies declaring how loved they are by their world (since they are able to make it rain, by virtue of finding some nice big sharks to trail along behind)... and it all hinges on only one thing: never, ever, leave the shark. There are of course two subclasses of remora: the remora who know they are remora, and the remora who do not. The remora who do not know what they are... these are the single most dangerous class of human beings on the planet. Utterly ignorant as to the truth of their existence, they are free to indulge in all manner of cultural/political/social activities, (their children are the most vociferously whiny, whether on their own behalf or that of some "cause" they've taken up -- God save us from the social activist children of the remora of the apocalypse). Knowing neither which side their bread is buttered on, nor the consequences of its buttering, they can vigorously indulge the human ego need to be "right", to be "good", to be "a winner", while simultaneously crushing the world that gave them birth. It's a win/win! Good little remora, keep on swimming baby

      Definition of Free Markets: The belief that no ape ever picked up a stick. The two categories of free marketeres: those who know apes did in fact pick up sticks, and rather frequently, and are very, very hopeful they can confuse you about this issue (category name: sharks), and those who are in fact in denial of reality (category name: remora)

    • @michaelcloud4909
      @michaelcloud4909 Рік тому

      Your world view isn't merely stupid, it's a deliberate con, whose intent is not to the benefit of anyone. If one does not know it's a con, then one is placed squarely in the category of ignorant remora, which, FYI, unlike real remora, means the con will most definitely cost you, having already suckered you in.

Keep honing your understanding of reality my friend things will only get worse from here!

    One of the undervalued method growing supply, keeping low carbon footprint can be done via recycling. Why no one talks about recycling?! This would be less intensive, environmentally friendly than mining. China and India are leading in this foray! Of course doing this may not be profitable for mining companies.

  • @EfficientEnergyTransformations

    Mr. Friedland should update his understanding of basic physics. No electrons (technically beta particles) are created or destroyed, they can only be evicted from their orbits. More generally though, the electrical power is being transfered through the electric ( electron ) vibrations and not through their lateral movement (electron drift). Also in spite of the commonly shared "knowledge" Edison did not invent any light bulb. It was invented about 20 years before him in Europe, he perfected the filament. Neither did he build a "huge electric power station" at Niagara Falls, this is what Westinghouse, based on the Tesla plans, did. Starting with wrong fundamental knowledge/presumptions usually leads you to wrong conclusions.

Get your head out of the clouds, get back down to earth, and get your hands dirty with the rest of us trying to dig out of the mess you created. Stop the magical thinking and get to work. Revolutions happen when people are hungry enough, mad enough, or cold enough. Stop the ESG bs.

    The only fallacy is the suggestion that Putin up blew his own pipeline but that is does not alter the analysis in any way

    I've Offset over 20 Tonnes of CO2 and produced over 20,000 kWh of solar energy since jan. 2019 in South Africa, ive also participated in projects that involve battery storage to solve issues like load shedding. Ive used my own money up to now... with things like sustainability loans and green loans (BMO is committing 300 Bil. into this space), how does someone like me gain access to these loans? i could scale up with help. no telling how many Tonnes of carbon i can offset and to whom we establish partnerships with. Saudi Arabia investment fund just held their first Carbon Offset Auction where Saudi Aramco, Olayan Financing Co, Ma'aden, etc, participated in buying carbon offsets... they are also setting up Carbon Markets. Saudi Arabia is looking to join BRICS.. maybe one day il be selling these carbon offsets to the Saudi's... could be a win-win-win for everyone if i had funding.
