Will it survive in a suitcase? I want to take it to Africa. I cant buy it there in my country. And can I cut the leaves?
@@wzupppp it’s already in the ground, but this is a very common palm, if you just look it up on the internet I’m sure you could order seeds or seedlings for a very cheap price online.
Have you made a video of how you protect it during the winter? Also, what zone are you in?
@@LemonDropYum Not yet, I’m unsure of whether or not I’ll protect this one. I’m in zone 7b.
How big will that palm tree get
@@J-loopes in areas with warmer winters they can get very large, for example in Southern California there are ones that are well over 40 feet tall
@@palmtreedude but they can mature at 30 feet tall correct or it just depends on
@@J-loopes Yeah they’re technically mature well before they reach very tall heights. They can be about 20-25 feet and start seeding, they just continue to grow
@@palmtreedude so in subtropical places can they stay 25 feet if u bought it at a store like Lowe’s?
@@palmtreedude since it’s store bought it won’t be pure Washington it will be a hybrid won’t it?
Rip
What part of virginia? Could you specify please?
@@andreymashchenko53 close to Richmond VA
I planted a foot high needle palm 20 years ago next to the house in Louisville, Ky.Its over 6 feet high now.Width is about the same.

Nice palm I was thinking to get one except it’s to expensive I’m getting a Mexican fan palm instead 🌴
Hello Where i can to order this palm more close to Ukraine?
@@taras.zakharchuk I am not sure to be honest, you’d probably have to find a European source that far away!
@@palmtreedude but i have second hardly Palm Sabal minor 😉😁
Looks great!
Very impressive your in Central Virginia and it’s growing I struggle with them here in NC
Beautiful Palm looks healthy ❤
Nobody ever talks about the soil they use
@@davidmorales8644 they like faster draining loamy soil, as long as they are not in muck that is always soggy they should do fine.
That is impressive! I've debated trying one of these but couldn't convince myself. Years ago I had a silver variety that I believe is even hardier. You've convinced me to try a med. fan palm again but I'm running out of prime real estate, lol. All my microclimates are used up. Great video and palm!
@@Palmguy24 I got this one at Lowe’s years ago, I don’t think it was too much money, it’s worth a try if you’re willing to buy one!
That palm is so impressive, amazing recovery and looking stunning!
@@palmplanet thanks!
@@palmtreedude Cheers!
Wow! That's a beauty! ❤ Are there large live oaks in the Richmond area? Thnx.
@@Palmguy24 There are a few in the Richmond area, there’s a park in the city itself that has some larger ones (I believe it is Bryan Park), and we have a smaller one in our yard that has been there for a few years now. There is not a lot like you see in the deep south though.
I think the palm tree is my spirit animal. Ive been kinda obsessed my whole life. I really dig your channel. Sincerely, Dan, South Dakota.
@@danfoster-hy8mo if you don’t have any you should get some, even if it’s for a pot! Plenty of places online to order them from
Just got one in the mail the other day hope it looks as good as yours does, thanks for the update!
@@GButtler_10 I ordered this one too and it did pretty well right after it was planted!
It had a good run😬
@@alexlalonde4190 Yeah got three winters out of it, a lot more than I thought haha I was thinking zero at first
Beautiful Palm ❤
@@garciamario5436 Thank you!
Looks good
Down
O
I just bought two of the hybrids, Washingtonia Filibusta from HD for $20 each. What a deal!! These hybrids are listed as hardy to 10⁰ F. I will still protect it the first year until it establishes good. Mine look a lot like your Robusta. Beautiful palms. Be careful of the thorns though!
They're definitely not hardy to 10°F. Its generally agreed upon that the trunks of Washingtonias are hardy to 18°F and the leaves to 24°F.
inaturalist has a checklist of animals and plants found in Pickney Island. As far as pines are concerned on the Island they have the Slash Pine, the Loblolly pine and the Longleaf pine (Pinus palustris).
@@nathanielalgernon975 Very cool! I like all those pines
It's sort of the northern limit for slash pines according to a habitat map I'm looking at.
such a beautiful landscape
Yeah it’s very nice!
Is it terribly humid there? I love the scenery!
Yeah it had the typical deep south high humidity
My wife’s grandparents live in hilton head and we only live 3 hrs from there so we go 3 or 4 times a year so we always make time go to pickny island
It is a very cool place!
Been to Hilton Head but not this place, looks like a neat place, I guess they have a visitor center, any place to get food?
Hilton head is very grown up lots of 5 star restaurants and hotels. Very expensive place but its beautiful
No place to get food on the island, the entire island is preserved as a wildlife refuge. There is plenty of places around off of the island to get food though, or back on Hilton Head.
@@palmtreedude yes, thank you, I found a PDF map of the island on the internet. Next time I'm down there will check it out.
Wow so cool in Co there is only 2 palms windmill palm and sabal minor those are in grand junction
Thanks for sharing! I just love palms
Great job. I have 2 almost that exact size i have grown from seed, just trying to find a space for them in the garden. Subbed.
Thank you!
Looking dude ua-cam.com/video/q0QnqLSxwEQ/v-deo.htmlsi=XIQ7NL22rbv7GJ4k 🌴Joses Tropical Garden 🌴 central NJ
Sabal minor, Sabel palmetto and Serenoa repens are the only three palms that grow on Hilton Head Island? You don't see the Needle palms because it's too marshy? I've been there once, nice place.
I mean growing naturally, I’ve seems tons of planted needle palms on the island, I just haven’t found an obvious naturally growing one yet, I believe they’re not as salt tolerant as the other three native species. I could be wrong though, some could be tucked away farther into the island growing on their own.
@@palmtreedude I imagine you're right, there's got to be a reason it's not growing right there with the rest of the palms.
This is an impressive primeval habitat. Thanks for the interesting video. Greetings from Switzerland
I am very glad it has been preserved. Thanks for watching!
Cool scenery man. I love Hilton Head area.
It’s an awesome place!
Looking great!!!
Thank you!
Looking good. It should do pretty well for you.
Thanks, I’m hoping it does!
Sorry about the background noise, there is a small pool filter right beside the garden beds, I will try to avoid it next time!
Do you get black spots on the leaves we do in the UK 🇬🇧
I haven’t noticed any, we might get some right after the winter but for the most part the fronds tend to look pretty good, especially the new ones
لماذا اطراف السعف محترق و مثقب❤جاوب
spear pull RIP im sorry my dude❤
We’ll see what happens to it, I’ve had palms regenerate their spear before after it pulled but with this being a crownshafted palm I’m thinking it is likely a goner
Looking good!!!
Thanks!
Wow that's impressive. What was your absolute minimum?
I’m not sure this past winter, I believe it was somewhere between 10 - 12. I wasn’t home most of the winter but I checked the weather out of curiosity often
Just so everybody knows. This guy ain't from the South.
What do you mean?
I hope your palm survived the winter! I’m currently trying a king palm in zone 9a🌴
It did! Although it is looking pretty beat up. I’ll get a video when I am back.
My sabal palmettos are in 6" terracotta pots on my balcony. Both still have only one shoot, but one of them is over 10 cm tall now. I initially planted the seeds last September. I'm hoping they do well. I'm in USDA hardiness zone 10a. The coldest winter temperature here is in the lower 40s, and highs are in the 80s by April and 90s by June.
Sounds like they’d do fine in your conditions!
