I think the main thrust behind Carlin's argument here, is not that we shouldn't try and make a healthy living space for ourselves, but to be honest that *that's* the reason we're doing it, not out of some lofty goal to 'save the planet', but more a goal to 'save ourselves from ourselves', but at the end of the day, if you do love the planet, then don't feel so distraught about what's happening now because it'll bounce back, just as good as before. Yes, it's sad for people who have grown up and loved certain species, and yes, it's wrong...un-natural even, that the die off is happening at such a rapid rate, but die-offs have happened before, at slower rates, and the climate has changed before, at slower rates, so ultimately the planet and its eco-system will bounce back. Humanity might even survive it, we're pretty tough to kill as a species. Our society, as it is right now, however, that will *not* survive. So make the most of this, as crappy as it can be, because I think we're roughly at the high point of humankind.

He ""ISN'T"" saying that pollution or global warming isn't a concern and a threat to human existence. What he is saying, that mankind and his pollution is insignificant in terms of the earth, its history and ablity to correct and recover! "It's mankind that is at risk"! Humans are at risk because of pollution and global warming! We are jeopardizing our own existence and much of the ecology we need to survive.

Carlin is the type of guy who condemns unregulated corporations for poisoning our bodies by endlessly exploiting people and the planet. Then he condemns people for caring about the environment. He's the type of guy who says we are too fixated on political parties and finger pointing, then blames "liberals" for caring about the environment too much. Last time I checked, people from every side of the political spectrum cares about our impact to the planet. But he makes these contradictory statements with confidence and easily digestible words. That's all it takes to sway your opinion.

I earned my MA in Experimental Social Psychology in 1978. It wasn't until years later that I started to question the moral implications of using a methodology that was originally designed to study inanimate objects to study human beings. That's because when you translate "experimental controls" into the study of humans it easily morphs into the study of Social & Political Controls. Even 100 years ago, it is difficult for me to believe that those doctors didn't understand that. One of the obvious conclusions is that "moral bandaid" that they put on their conscience is that Black People are less than fully human.

Growing up in south central Mississippi in the 1960s, Stax music was our window to music using AM R&B radio station WDIA (1070) as an outlet. Unfortunately, we could only get the signal in the late night, so we left the radio on all night to hear the music.
