Stylized Demon Axe in Blender - Timelapse
Model based on the concept of Betty Jiang:
www.artstation.com/artwork/6Lrb5
Technique is pretty old-school and straightforward. Block out, move edges and verts in the right place, compare with the concept, repeat. When model is done, project a texture on the model. Some overpainting (fixing projection mistakes) and baking diffuse (color) texture on a new uv set is needed to achieve the best result. Normal map, based on a sculpted model can also be used to improve quality. Topology can be optimized, reducing the number of tris that`ve been used. I did keep this model fairly high poly (about 4.5 K) but topology can be reduced to 1K tris or even less by optimizing the shape.
It took me about 6 hours and all raw footege is here. Timelapse is 8x.
It is not a tutorial.
Have a fun!

I`m sorry but probably some misunderstanding here. I wrote in the comment, that links for you are in the description and they will be there for a while. 1 hour later you wrote back, that you are waiting to open it so I assumed you did read my comment and downloaded it. I removed those links then. If you need model/img tomorrow you can use those links again. They will be deleted tomorrow.

Hi, I`ve placed links for LP Shovel fxb file and reference image in the description. You can use this model as a base to model something of your own. Link will be here for a while. Good luck!
@@raV_3d tyvm waiting for it to open and if you dont mind share ig or disc channel
@@Blender-Ai It`s only for your personal/educational use, not for sharing. I do not have any copyrights for a concept and the idea of a model is based on someone`s intellectual property, so have that in mind. The best is just to use it for own purpose (an assignment, right?) and do not share with anyone.
@@raV_3d ok thanks and will edit it to fit in
wow.. this is amazing. please make more lightsabers in plasticity.
Hmm.. I am not sure if it`s "amazing" but thx for kind words. It`s quite simple cylindrical shape made without any special knowledge. I don`t have any working version of Plasticity right know (it was a trial) and do not plan to buy it. If I decide, probably I`ll make more Plasticity tutorials, just for fun, and making different light saber can be one of them.
@@raV_3d thanks
If I have to be honest, if I was doing the model, using the same technique as you did for the hull (as in using a sphere) I probably would have given up at around 0:48 thinking that it doesn’t look right. Glad you stuck with it and made a fantastic model.
Thx! I appreciate kind words! I did my best.
slide image pls?
I`m afraid, I don`t understand the question. How can I help you?
@@raV_3d the reference image bro
Reference image was here all the time. Look at my description below the video (there is a link). Just crop it in any 2D app for your convenience @mystix4926
how did you texturise so fast
Unwrap - Project from View
what does that do?
Unwraps the model in a specific way, that allows to texture very fast and dirty.
quick question can you make a vid on how you got the textures and color on it and show us please?
If it`s ok for you, I`ll explain it now and spend more time to show it better next time. Add a material in the Material Properties (New button). Select Image Texture as a source of Base Color (yellow circle - choose Image Texture). From a drop-down menu select a concept texture. It`s already on the list if you used it in 3d viewport. If not, use Open button and upload it. Switch 3d Viewport to Orthographic (side) view. Go to Edit Mode and use Unwrap - Project from View. Switch to UV Editing tab and from drop-down menu at the top choose your texture. Match the scale (size) and shape of a projected uv mesh with the concept. To see texture on the mesh in 3d Viewport use Material Preview or Render display mode.
yeah that help cuz i bumped into a few problems so the vid would help alot@@raV_3d
Here is a tutorial (not mine) were things are explained with details. Shading tab is used instead of Material Properties but it may help if you still struggle. ua-cam.com/video/oHlyg6j-5Gg/v-deo.html @@WockMosi

It's Been a while
Thank you for noticing! Yes, it`s been a while since I last uploaded a video. Besides of being busy I also hesitated if I should do similar stuff again and again (another stylized thing and weapon), but this Demon Axe by Betty Jiang is such a beautiful concept, I could not resist.
@raV_3d I get the feeling. I feel that way too with my content. This is good work by the way
Ty!@@danieluorji
Very clean. That leg reto looked annoying to deal with.
Thx. When someone`s look at it as a whole, I agree, it can look a bit complicated (as many other organic shapes). But any given shape can be broken into simpler ones. It helps a lot. Then it`s just a matter of patience.
Well done. Beautiful.
Ty!
5:56 Why you didn't used the bool clean up tool from machin3?
Instead I manually removed 10 vertices? Sometimes it`s just easier to click several times then use another tool/shortcut when it might throw you off the rhythm, I think. My timelapses are not the best example how to do something because not all operations will be optimal. Treat them more like a workflow and inspiration, and proceed with caution ;)
@@raV_3d I mean, yes, definitely 3D has no right way of doing things. I just think that it could have been used, I personally hate turning around things to select verts x).
I think, I really like to navigate around things in a 3d space. This way Blender looks more like a game for me. Maybe subconsciously I choose some redundant moves (more often then I would like to admit) because of that. If I need to clean 10 objects in a row, definitely I would use some dedicated tools. Machin3Tools is one of the best! @@NightVisionOfficial
Please tell me how you switch to Trackball navigation? Is there some kind of key combination? I just know how to change it only by going into the settings. It’s in your video at 11:58. Or is it always on?
I use 3DConnexion SpaceMouse when I need to examine an object in this way. 90% of time I use regular mouse, so it might looks like some magic navigation feature, but it`s not. I think it is possible to assign a shortcut in Blender`s preferences keymap, so you may look for a detailed instruction or ask someone who can guide you better then me. It seems doable.
@@raV_3d Ahh, now it’s clear. Yes, blender has a “simulation” of such navigation using a regular mouse. I often use this mode when sculpting. But to turn it on and off you constantly have to go into the settings. And I didn’t see the settings via shortcut. In any case, thanks for the answer.
I meant, that if you can assign a shortcut for it, it should not require going into preferences each time, because shortcut toggle handles it. This is what GPT Chat gave me when I asked how to do it. I don`t know if it`s working, but it may be worth to try. I hope that, I did not misunderstood you, and this is exactly what you`re looking for. WARNING - REALLY LONG INSTRUCTION ;) "Yes, it is possible to assign a shortcut to change the navigation type from turntable to trackball in Blender. Here's how you can do it: 1. Open Blender and go to Edit -> Preferences. 2. In the Preferences window, click on the Keymap tab. 3. In the search bar at the top of the Keymap tab, type "navigation" to filter the options. 4. Look for the "3D View" section and expand it. 5. Scroll down and find the "View3D Rotate" option. 6. Click on the arrow next to "View3D Rotate" to expand it and reveal the available navigation types. 7. You will see "Turntable" and "Trackball" options. Click on the arrow next to "Turntable" to expand it. 8. Click on the "+" icon next to "Turntable" to add a new shortcut. 9. A new row will appear. In the "Input" column, click on the field and press the desired shortcut keys. For example, you can use Ctrl+Alt+T. 10. In the "Action" column, click on the dropdown menu and select "wm.context_toggle". 11. In the "Context Attributes" section, click on the field and type "space_data.orbit_style". 12. In the "Value" section, click on the field and type "TRACKBALL". 13. Click on the "Add New" button to add the shortcut. 14. Close the Preferences window. Now, whenever you press the shortcut keys you assigned (Ctrl+Alt+T in our example), it will toggle the navigation type between turntable and trackball in the 3D View."
At 12:56 did you use inflate for the design ?
You`re correct. Mesh filter - inflate.

Change the music. It hurts my ears
It`s always a matter of taste, someone wrote it, someone liked it. You can always press M key (mute) and use own playlist if you don`t like it. The only way to change the music in an uploaded video is to replace it with something from UA-cam library.
nah, he right. A song without any voices, not diffrent tones for 30min is hard to watch. Its a good tip, and a must to have in videos. But if u dont care, thats fine. just know some people wont watch it;)@@raV_3d
@@valty2505 I would add/change the music, if it would be possible to make a loop from music YT library or they would have any longer tracks (besides few classical ones). Ofc it is a good tip, I am grateful for it, just can`t solve this issue atm. I`ll keep that in mind. Ty.
@@raV_3d this vid is unnecessary to change. But new upload isnt that bad. I mean, it does not have many views. So it dont matter. Dont search for a loop or even in UA-cam libary. @@raV_3d thx bro do u know how i can reduce the time in timelapse soo I can follow along with u cause youtube speed didn't make it slower to follow along
@@commandatube1051 There is a playback speed slider on YT, but even with 0.25 it "skips" a lot of frames (because, in fact, they don`t exist). I`m afraid, that this is the consequence of how timelapses are made. When I have dealt with timelapses created by others I had to put some real effort to guess what was done "in between". I guess, it may be not the best answer, you could expected, but it is the only one that comes to my mind now. Side effect of that extra effort was, that my skills growth faster then I would watch only "proper" tutorials so it really pays off to do that from time to time.
