ENG - Even with his first feature film, Quentin Dupieux nails a charming and unsettling story about falling behind in life. You'll notice great, surreal details that add to the world (like people with bandages and some face liftings) and enhance the funny/tragic performances. Everybody is on point here and time flies quickly in this 1h20 film where people don't use sarcasm... C'est le vieil humour! There's so much to love here... the opening sequence, milk-drinking jocks that only listen to EDM, the blunt hatred parents could have for their children... I could go on and on about STEAK. FR - Même avec son premier long métrage, Quentin Dupieux raconte une histoire charmante et troublante sur le retard dans la vie. Vous remarquerez de superbes détails surréalistes qui ajoutent au monde (comme des personnes avec des bandages et des liftings du visage) et améliorent les performances drôles/tragiques. Ici tout le monde est au rendez-vous et le temps passe vite dans ce film d'1h20 où l'on n'utilise pas de sarcasme... C'est le vieil humour ! Il y a tellement de choses à aimer ici... la séquence d'ouverture, les sportifs buveurs de lait qui n'écoutent que de l'EDM, la haine brutale que les parents pourraient avoir envers leurs enfants... I have been holding on to a completely busted ipad for 10 years because I knew this song was on it but there was no way to recover the data. Every time I thought about it throughout those years, I could only remember "steak". I tried every kind of search. But holy shit sitting here watching some tv and it just fucking hit me. I've seen SebastiAN play this track live at Hard Haunted 2010 in the Shrine Auditorium in LA. He opened with this track. My friend had told me that this track was 13 minutes long with an 11-minute buildup. SebastiAN spent most of his time during the track chain smoking cigarettes and drinking. He'd raise up his drink every few minutes to taunt us, then put it down again. The acoustics of The Shrine Auditorium made it seem like you were surrounded by this ever growing dread and doom. I've been to a good number of metal shows in my day, but this track was absolutely the most brutal thing I have *ever* heard. Bravo!
