Homestead Fashioned
Приєднався 30 сер 2022
We went from owning our own fashion & accessories line in downtown Seattle, with a 6000 sq.ft retail store, design shop & speakeasy... to leaving it all & buying 10 acres of land & a barn in northern Idaho with our parents, who sold their home of 40 years. All with the vision of a new way of life centered around reconnecting our lives to the source & slowing down.
This is a start of a journey. A journey of rewilding our lives. Rewild is a verb defined as: To restore to its natural uncultivated state. Which seems less like a switch you can just flip and more like a journey to embark on, an evolution that involves unpacking a lot of stuff that this fast paced, success driven world has packed into us. Replacing some of it, but also leaving a lot more space for living, loving, and learning together.
Come along with us as we renovate a barndominium from the ground up, develop our land, raise animals, garden, hunt, gather, cook, homeschool, and more!

LIQUID GOLD. Finding Water on Our Idaho Homestead. How to Find Water. Water Dousing. Digging a Well
We had a laugh about the backseat complaints. Idaho mountain roads can be interesting. The road to our place actually made Mom cry on her visit. It's very steep. 😅 Cool that you have pheasants! Curious to see how that goes!
Thanks for watching! Yes, our backroads are always good for an adventure! Haha …lots of pheasant updates coming on upcoming episodes 😝
❤
Thank you for letting us learn and watch. Condolences on the loss of Janice and Brian. I'm sure they would be proud of your hard work and dedication to building your homestead.
Thank you so much!
🙌🏽
So beautiful! Such an artistic person.
Thank you!!
What is that make is that tile saw w/water line used to cut the kitchen counter top? Incredible execution of every project. I am subscribed. I am guessing the location is just north of Moscow, ID. I have driven that highway for 40 years and loved all the barns that dot the landscapes.
Michael hi! Thank you for the awesome comment! We used a Kobalt 4inch time saw for the counter top. (Be sure if you do this, to support the section your cutting out. It’s heavy and if it’s not supported can break the countertop as it gets ready to drop)
All the talking and experiencing a new skill, good on you girl. But you will only ever have one set of eyes, so how about at the very least put on some safety glasses. You have gloves on to protect your hands, nails don't you..
😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋
Y'all are the best!!!! Fermenting is amazing.
Yessss!! Thank you Deborah!
Fire wood makes you warm twice , once when you cut it and once when you burn it . Where not far from you guys, and go through 5-6 chords a winter . We only burn red fir and larch . To old to use a splitting mall anymore, we use a splitter. There's lots to learn about heating with wood . Please be careful with the chain saw. They can hurt you really bad , only takes a second . BTW if your going to burn much pine be sure and burn it hot and, or clean ur chimney often .
Not sure where you are in idaho . Were about 60 miles southeast of Courdealene, and they have been really bad this year . Never heard of trying for the queens early in the seaeson . Ill try that next spring . Cant wait for them to die off after the freeze .
@@ada-yw1bb we aren’t far from you! They have been super bad this year. We have friend and neighbors that can’t even go outside right now… have been stung so many times. We have almost none. Each year it gets better and better if you follow those steps! Right now, get those fipronil raw meat balls out right now! All over! That will help big time. Stay consistent
If ur on a well, it's not really a good idea to let the faucets drip . Hard on the well pump . Insulate/ heat areas with exposed lines, use heat tape if you have too. Make sure your lines are buried deep enough and dont run water lines on exterior walls . North idaho is a lot different than western Washington in the winter .
You guys are so blessed to have Mom and Dad's expertise ! Hope you will always be there for them as well ! That's a lot of love there !!!❤
Yessss! Thank you Shelli!
Welcome to Idaho, cool video. Your homestead is coming along nicely.
Thank you!!
Loved the video. I’m watching from Mackay ID so I loved the 7C sweatshirt one of the kids was wearing on your fishing trip. So awesome!
Ah!! That’s so awesome! Thank you for watching!!
Some people think its funny but its snot. LOL
Haha… nice! I see what you did there 😉
LOVE LOVE LOVED the surprise at the end. Your place is looking great.
Yessss!!! Thank you!! 😝
Black FOR SURE
BTW awesome channel. Best wishes to your amazing family 💞
Thank you so much!!
For your drainage problems rent heavy machinery or hire it to dig the soil so the water drains away from your livestock. Use a French drain. First dig a trench . Then put the French drain pipe in to carry your water away. The French drain pipe has small holes in it and is placed in the ground to drain the water away. Backfill the trench. We used a French drain to protect a leaky basement. It fixed our problem. Watch Homestead Rescue videos with the Ramsey family on ideas on how to deal with your livestock mud issues. They're awesome at fixing livestock mud/drainage problems.
Trapping is cruel...just because it's legal in your state dosent make it right....great stuff to be teaching your children...I'm extremely disappointed...I thought u had a higher iq
I found that if I wanted big apples I needed to give them lots of water throughout the hot months as well.
YES!!! Love that!!
Blessings from Baja down here whe use a pantyhose whe put some meat scraps in it close the panty hose tying it whit some rope and throw it in the streem wait a while and recover it and there crowfish get there feet tangled in the pantyhose
That’s pretty cool! I’m gonna havta try that! Haha
I know this ain't a apple tree but I have a plum tree Way put it out about 4 years ago I've never got any plums do you need two or more to have plums or what's my problem do you have any idea
It could a number of things. If your getting flowers but no plums it could be the variety, like you mentioned.. maybe it’s not self fertile and needs a friend? If you’re not getting any blooms, try some of the things in this video for sure! 😄
You folks are an inspiration because of all the good things you are doing. The biggest thing you can do for your girls is continue to home school because you are the biggest influence in their futures. Crystal (sp?) you are a natural born teacher and are a wonderful guide for the other families and all of the children. Crystal, be blessed and continue to use your God given talents and skills. (Really enjoy the 'softer' music.) Blessings to all of you fine folks.
Thank you Bill!! Couldn’t agree more!
WOW!!! You folks have water! That is fantastic that you have a high flowing well so you will have plenty of house water and lots of water for your garden and plants. Big blessings to you!!!
Bill! Loving all of the comments! Glad your enjoying the episodes! -Justin
Hey can you add all different kinds of flavor other than just salt to that
Most definitely! Herbs from the garden, and or roasted garlic is amazing! But you can totally get creative with your farmers cheese!
Processing and eating your own animals makes for better tasting meals. Blessings to you all.
Making mud pies on your knees is heart-warming because Justin did not freak out when he saw her playing in the mud. Blessings to all of you.
The upstairs bathroom turned out really nice. The tub is big enough to put the girls in for their baths. Justin, I like the cattle panel installiation in the loft railing system. It is so nice to see the girls involved in sanding and painting the cabinet doors. It gives them some 'ownership' in the various projects. "Valuing each other" is so precious and valuable. Blessings to all of you.
Having the water line trench dug to four feet is good insurance against frozen pipes in the winter. The trout look delicious and it is nice seeing many hands preparing supper. More great memories. I love to hear the positive encouragements. Blessings to all of you.
Idaho offers four distinct seasons with harsh winters, warm summers mixed with beautiful fall and spring weather. You are making wonderful memories for all to enjoy. Blessings to all of you folks.
Hey guys. Im going to comment this one time and probably not again because i have opinions. Some people do not agree with them. Whatever, I am from north Idaho. Sandpoint area, colburn culver, Rapid lightning area. Been there done that. 9 to 11 cords of wood every year. Had a huge house with 3 stoves. If your willing to let these people come into your life, be damn sure they have your back. If SHTF , they now know what you got. Can you trust them? Something to think about. Otherwise Im subscribed and watching. Good luck.
LOVE this comment!! Lots of wisdom here, especially what’s in between the lines.
Great advice!
Thank u! Glad it was helpful!
What an awesome video!

First time watching your channel....nice homestead! I live in the south west section of Idaho (down by Boise).
Thank you!..and thanks for watching and the comment! 😄
We are a cc family too!! I love the affirmations that y’all recite as a family. Do you have a link for a pdf for that? Just subscribed. I also have a channel and would love to be friends and connect. Looking forward to following along. We are considering buying land too but it’s so tricky especially land that is off the grid so that we can have our trailer on it.
Hey! Thank you so much! Shoot us an email ( homesteadfashioned@gmail.com ) and we can send it to you. We know so many families who started out buying land and living in a trailer for a while while they develop it …all with amazing stories! It’s such an amazing investment in so many ways.
It's wonderful to watch you and your family live my dream. Keep keeping on.
Awe, that’s awesome! Thank you!
We usually hang our deer in a cool place for 14 days. It gives it a great flavor.
Your feet must taste great! 😉 haha (I’m assuming you meant meat… but yes! We hang ours for at least a week or so. In this video Travis was only here for a few days, so he was only able to hang it for a few days… but it was still amazing 😄)
Lol it's edited now.
@@Deerhavenoffgridhomestead well now my comment won’t make sense! Haha
Man! Your vision for your property...business plan is spot on. This episode was just amazing! I'm a self proclaimed semi-professional-amateur UA-cam watcher, and you seriously need to post more episodes and on a consistent basis. You do such great work!
Jason! Thank you for the love and the semi-professional-amateur feedback! 😄 I’m trying… but there’s also lots of work to be done around here 😉 …more episodes is definitely the number one comment I get from folks, so I suppose that’s a good thing! I’m working on it.
You folks do an amazing job with your videos, My girlfriend and I have been watching you since the start. Good job on doe...and turkey. Stay Blessed! PS gland in legs...tarsal gland needs to come out
That’s awesome! I’m glad you’re enjoying them! So I’ve read that messing with cutting off the tarsal glad can spread bacteria and scent all over yourself and the meat…and have never had any ‘off’ taste. But I’ll definitely have to look into that more!! Thanks for the tip! 😄
Have harvested a 100 deer, never messed with a gland.
❤ your journey.
Thank you! ❤️
Missed y'all! Glad to see the latest!
Thank you Karla!
Was watching your video on building garden beds. I made 26 beds with untreated pine, and they lasted nearly ten years, and even then, only the bottoms needed replacing. Good call, and great multi family homestead. New subscriber,.
