I Tried WWII Liquid Stockings Made of GRAVY
Переглядів 2,8 тис.6 місяців тому
Hello everybody, Desperate times led to desperate measures for ladies during the second World War- the rationing of stockings gave birth to the crazy trend of "liquid stockings", a make-up applied to the legs to create the illusion of hosiery. Some creative women even went the extra mile and made do with tea or gravy as a liquid stocking substitute. This sparked a crazy idea in my head... Come ...

Join a movie starlet on a summer afternoon in 1944 Hollywood. I hope you enjoy! Of course, I'm not really a 1940s starlet- this series is make believe. Therefore, there are bound to be historical inaccuracies. Special thanks to my brother Vince and my horse Bozza for co-starring. See you next time- Melina

My Week in Outfits ~ Everyday 1940s Fashion
Oh my goodness, Melina! This may be my favorite seasonal look book yet! All of your hats are so beautiful and really elevate the outfits. My favorite might actually be the peach dress - so simple but so beautiful! Did you find it at a vintage shop? Wishing you a lovely spring and summer! 💐
Seeing you standing by the river in the peach dress and in the garden in the blue one with your pretty hair and hat is serene and peaceful, just like all the lovely ladies in the 40's who showed grace and wonderful taste. Thank you!
Thank you for watching. I'm very happy you liked the outfits. The video was such fun to put together. ♥️
People knew how to dress in the 1940
Where do you get you shoes from??
I found all the shoes in this video at charity shops over the years. Very lucky finds!
I never thought about pairing lavender and brown ! It looks great ! Also that sky blue looks incredible on you 😊
The peach-colored dress is sooo pretty, I gasped!
Pretty dresses love this style
Thank you very much! ♥️
Wow! Everything about this video is perfection. Happy Spring!
How kind! Thank you so much. ♥️
Really lovely! Everything looks stunning on you.
How kind, thank you so much! ♥️
Your videos are such fun! You really have the descriptions perfect, like an authentic 40’s newsreel. I love the sweater & white skirt combination!!
I'm very pleased you liked the narration! 1940s newsreel is exactly what I was going for, so that is quite the compliment. And I love that outfit too! Thank you for watching and commenting. 😊♥️
This was fantastic. You absolutely nailed the old 1940s narration! Love seeing all your colorful spring ensembles.🪻🌼🪻🌼 You're always so creative with the themes of the outfits. The fake gardening was a personal favorite. 😂😂😂
Thank you so much! I'm awfully glad you liked the look book. And I'm happy you think so about the narration- that makes all the scripting worth it. Thanks for your lovely kind comment 😊
@MelinaMeineke Yes, you're brilliant with the script. If I didn't know any better, I would think this video was right out of British Pathé or something. ☺️
Beautiful video. Love the dresses.
Thank you very much for watching. ♥️
I don't know if you opshop/ thrift much , what about some thrift with me vids??
Love it❤
Thank you 😊
I like that when it’s so dreary and wintery here, it’s spring there. It’s like a little escape to watch 😆
I'm happy to provide some escapism! 😊♥️
You locks gread my dear
This was lovely to watch! Thank you so much for this Melina! I hope you have a lovely day yourself! ☺️❤
Thank you for watching, I'm happy you enjoyed it! 😊
@MelinaMeineke You're welcome! I always enjoy your videos! 😊
Loveeee this look!
I'm happy you like it! ♥️
Ahhhhh I would love to have a morning routine like this but I’m still in school and that eats up 5 hours of that morning😭
Oh dear- hopefully one day! ♥️
What was in the black velvet clutch? God forbid, a mobile phone or anything else!
Why, spare lipstick and a powder compact of course! What on earth is "mobile phone"? 😉
Gorgeous vocal❤
Thank you! ♥️
Aaargh I loved this! Firstly, your brother was so great in this, he's officially graduated from willing participant in your videos to... 🤳actoooor. And was that your mamma?! She's beautiful. Jeez you're a stunning family. Ok I had my dinner, pondered...the maid had nothing to gain & now she's out of a job...just because the Countess doesn't need the money doesn't mean she doesn't have some sort of grudge...I think suicide by poisoned bubbly is very dramatic & not out of the realm of possibility, but with the info I have I think I'll go with the business partner.
Although the only person with access to the bottle that made sense is the maid. Still. I won't change my mind 😂 because I actually don't have any idea at all!
Yay, I'm so happy you enjoyed the video! And I'll pass your compliments onto my brother. I thought he made for a fantastic phony businessman. Indeed, my mum played the countess! 😊 Oooh, some really good observations here. Fabulous detective work!
@MelinaMeineke and all without actual clues! There might be hope for me as a detective yet 😂😂😂
Clearly the SIL😮
I actually got a bit concerned when Widow Daisy Smith fell! It looked much more realistic than other "deaths by poison" in 1940s films lol. 😂 I have absolutely no clue who killed Mrs. Smith! I wouldn't make a very good detective, I guess. I'll have to wait until Halloween to find out the truth! 🎃 I really enjoyed this vintage mini murder mystery video! 🧡
Why, thank you! I take that as a compliment. I'm happy you enjoyed the video. I loved planning and making it. Happy Halloween! ♥️
My guess is the countess blew all her money on her lavish lifestyle, owes a lot of money to the business partner, and paid the maid to poison her!
Ooh, that's a good one!
I think it's the business partner. :) Nice work!
Thanks! 😊
Omg, what a lovely video during this spooky season! I this it was suspect 3
I thought it would be fun as a Halloween video! Thank you for watching😊
I think the business partner....
Hi Melina, you have nice acting talent and you looked a lot like Barbara Stanwyck and many of the nice illustrations in old Nancy Drew books from the 40's too. I've read them all. There are good 40's and 50's period mystery shows in the U.K. they show on PBS here in the States, and I wondered if you have similar shows in New Zealand maybe submit some of your videos to try out for a part in them. In your mystery I'd be most suspicious of the countess, but I've never been a detective so am looking forward to how you solve it! Take care!
Thank you very much for watching, I'm happy you enjoyed the murder mystery! And being compared to Barbara Stanwyck is a huge compliment, you are too kind! To be honest, I haven't watched television in quite a while, so I'm not sure if New Zealand has anything like it- but it would certainly be a lot of fun to be a part of! Have a wonderful day 😊
If you don't win for best actress 1945, I'm rioting
Also I'm betting my money on Mary
Too kind! Thank you 🥰
I like you, Gertrude!!😀
I'm ten seconds into this video and its already thumbs up quality!!
Thank you so much! Happy you're enjoying it 😊
@MelinaMeineke You make great content. My father and mother were born in the 1920's & 30's. (Now you know I'm old-60-😬). Somehow, I grew to love the things of those times, through the 40's. I wish I could be there to participate and wear the old suits and panama hats while you're dressed like a total bombshell! It helps that you're gorgeous, too. I wish there were more people like us who love old ways of dressing and such things. You're doing a great job to show how things were and how good they still look. Keep up the good work!! 🤗🙏
Thank you for such a lovely comment, I really appreciate that. It's always nice to know another vintage enthusiast. I wish more people dressed vintage over here. But the good thing is that it seems to be becoming more popular these days! All the best 😊
I just found your channel today and I cannot stop binge watching. Thank you for the amazing content 🤍
Yay! Welcome! I'm so happy to hear that- thank you! ♥️😊
Great idea! It's always a good idea to have some vintage "no curl" styles on hand.
Thank you! And yes, absolutely- one never knows when they might come in useful 😊
Thank you so much, dear Melina ❤🕊️ 2:21 😂😂👍
Thank you for watching!
What a doll!🙂
Where was this video this afternoon😭(also can you post a picture of your current haircut because I love this length and I’m going to cut my hair soon!)
Oh dear- hopefully you can still try it out some other time! As for the haircut- I haven't posted on social media for years, so if you like I can just email you a picture. If so, my email address should be in my UA-cam bio- just flick me a message and I can send it to you. Either way- best of luck with your haircut!
@@MelinaMeineke ok thank you very much Melina and I will send you a email soon and I will probably try this updo soon as this is super pretty and elegant!
@@MelinaMeinekeHello so sorry I can’t find your email is there any chance you can comment here your email?

@@MelinaMeineke oh thank you very much
Ahhh..... The Day in the life of a movie star...your outfits are all beautiful...even the mundane working clothes to do your chores...love seeing all your animals...Did you say you caught the flu too??😮. Hope you are now feeling better 💕 💕❤❤😊
Thank you for watching Julie! I'm happy you liked the outfits- and the animals! I can't help including them in my videos when they're so cute. Indeed, I caught the flu! I was sick for nearly a month. But luckily I've fully recovered now. 😊♥
Ganz tolles Video!
Haha, the obvious solution is to airbrush the gravy on!
Now why didn't I think of that! 😅
Hi Melina, you look wholesome and truly lady-like in all these outfits, especially the red suit and navy blue coat. I always believed fashion and swing music in the 40's to early 50's showed the finest in self image and good taste. Thank you!
Thank you very much, Jay. I'm glad you enjoyed the outfits! The red suit was my favourite too. 😊
I love how real and functional your wardrobe is, 1940s ladies did a whole lot of working, in the most unglamorous jobs imaginable. I bet they would have loved your nice warm pair of trousers and big warm jacket.
Thank you so much! I suppose I didn't think of it that way at the time, but you're right, most ladies back then didn't dress like the movie stars! Thanks for watching ♥
You are a Land Girl!❤
🥰
These are wonderful! I'm going to use these outfits as inspiration for my own this month.
Wow, thank you! I'm really flattered that these ensembles inspired you! ♥️
I like the working outfits just as well as the glamorous ones! I always love when you show all your animals!
Thank you very much, I'm happy you enjoyed the outfits! And I'm glad you like the animals too, I just had to include them ♥️
Lovely outfits! I hope one day you'll be free of the awful vertigo. 🙏❤️
Thank you very much- and I hope so, too. ♥️
I adore your videos!! And your laughter is so cute, hihi💛
That's so sweet- thank you! 😊♥️
09:15 super perfect look 😍😍😍
I'm happy you like it!
