Extended Cut | The Charlotte Rail Trail
Charlotte has transformed a former freight rail line into a people-focused trail AND transit corridor - much like the original vision for the Atlanta Beltline. Charlotte leaders and community members say that it’s not just the trail, but it’s the TRANSIT that builds their communities, drives their economy, and makes the corridor accessible to EVERYONE.

Too bad Atlanta can't get its act together on the Beltline. You know what? Atlanta hasn't got its act together on public transportation since mid last century. We just choke on our roads with more lanes and more lanes.

Wow, impressive: that looks like a real first world city, not the shitty car dependent and polluted sprawls we have in many places

Don't be fooled, Charlotte is a very car dependent, sprawling city outside of this one light rain line. Hopefully they continue to expand this throughout the city

2:08 that bought a tear to my eye. It's amazing how government investment in transit can lead to something as empowering as a coffee store that employs people with disabilities.

I have a seizure disorder and can't drive. It made me happy to know that someone actually thought about accommodating people with disabilities. It seems like no one really cares or even bothers to think about the fact that some people actually can't drive.

Great job! Both the story and the concept. More cities need to adopt a light-rail/car-free approach to transit oriented development and city planning in general. Cars have their place... On highways between cities in the country. In town? There are infinitely better options available... It's just about using the right tool for the right job. Aside from small urban electrics, fossil fueled behemoths like modern SUV's should be discouraged at all costs...

Transit-oriented development makes life so much easier. Just ask us up here in the Northeast. What a great story.

I love to see American cities building new transit and seemingly rediscovering the vitality of transit-oriented development. This light-rail/pedestrian corridor looks beautiful!
