From 1865 to 1877 the Southern states were OCCUPIED by the U.S. Army. While there were nominal civilian governments created in the those states, they were mostly northerners as the vast majority of southerners were barred from holding office or even voting. It was the martial law of the Army that kept them in power. Today I consider BOTH of the major parties as being run by thugs: International Socialist ones on the left and National Socialist ones on the right.

Yeah but the 1986 tax reform law saw the income tax delta shrink (between the middle class and the wealthy) from about 50% in pre-Reagan era to about 10-20%% post 1986 act. Yes, the tax law closed many loopholes, but ever since Reagan, the wealthy have not paid their ‘fair share’ when compared to the middle class. The delta between what the middle class pays and the top 1% should be much more that 10-20%.
