Prince Harry has been told that his remarks calling the First Amendment "bonkers" were not be received "kindly" by the American people and will cost him support.
According to Chris Kenny, reactions to Prince Harry's criticism of the First Amendment might be an indication that the Prince "might be overstaying his welcome." The Sky News Australia anchor stated that many people in America were perplexed by his disdain of the media and his desire to undertake high-profile interviews.
“Americans do not take kindly to interlopers who turn up in their country and criticise it,” talkRADIO anchor Kevin O'Sullivan said when addressing the Duke's popularity ratings.
“The Americans love a bit of star power and celebrity for sure, but they also like their freedom and they don’t take too kindly to unsolicited advice from the British royals,” Mr Kenny added.
“They actually fought a war and founded their country to escape all that.”
The First Amendment established the constitutional rights to religious freedom, free expression, and a free press.
The amendment was passed in 1791, eight years after Britain recognized the United States of America as an independent nation in the aftermath of the American Revolution.
Last week, the Duke of Sussex said on the podcast Armchair Guy, “I’ve got so much I want to say about the First Amendment as I sort of understand it, but it is bonkers.”
He was alluding to the paparazzi's invasive behavior when he and his wife Meghan Markle decided to relocate to California.
Following a series of interviews with American media sources, Prince Harry's popularity has allegedly plummeted in both the UK and the US.
According to certain surveys, Harry's popularity has 'gone right down,' as per former Sun royal journalist Charlie Rae in an interview on talkRadio.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have regularly expressed their disdain for the press and have battled to protect their privacy through a number of lawsuits, most notably against The Mail on Sunday.
In a March interview with Oprah, the couple discussed the media abuse they had faced over the previous four years. Both complained about the racial and colonial connotations in headlines about Meghan Markle, as well as the lack of privacy they had experienced.
The Duke's remarks infuriated some conservative American pundits, who see the First Amendment as a critical pillar of their culture.
Jesse Watters, a political journalist, stated Fox News, “This guy complains about the press more than Donald Trump. Is he even really a member of the Royal Family? I didn’t think Royals were allowed to complain, no one else in his family complains about anything.”
“I mean we learned about Great Britain. We go over there, we play along and we bow and do the whole thing - he never learned about the Revolutionary War?”
“Well if he thinks the First Amendment is bonkers, wait until he hears about the second one,” he said.
