Hi Aaran I ended up here after coming across Kenneth Hales name as an American Linguist who learnt the Warlpiri language and was accepted by the tribe. The Wiki post said he had twin sons that he taught Warlpiri to, and one of the sons spoke at his funeral in Warlpiri. I have family Warlpiri connection at Lajamanu and Yuendumu but I don’t speak the language having been raised in my early years by my Gardia father. My mob are Jaru & Ngardi. So anyway my question is did you end up visiting Australia and how was your trip to Yuendumu/Alice and your meet up with the people? Thanks for taking the time to learn our language and culture. As a native Shanghainese speaker, I was astounded to find out "hanh ly" sounds exactly the same as the Shanghainese word for "suitcase"

Nice to see a linguist getting into Australian languages. I noticed that you study many languages. Is there any evidence in language evolution which may support westward migration of some language, out of Australia, prior to British arrival? Or even from the ice age Sundah Peninsula and Sahul land mass? Westward travel across the Wallace line is relatively easy and Sundah was probably very heavily populated. It's submerging would have driven migration north and west I would think.

Coming from a young Indigenous woman living here in northern nsw(Gomeroi/Gamilaraay tribe) I am connecting back to my country and learning the language myself, and it is super hard and takes alot of work, time and dedication! You should be very proud with your efforts, by learning language you open up doorways that allow deeper connections to First Nations and the lands beneath you.. super amazing to see, if ever we cross paths I’ll be sure to come say Yaama maliyaa (hello friend/mate) in Gamilaraay)

God damn, I have mad respect for you brother. My language for my people just north of the warlpiri people called Jingilu Mudburra. I can definitely hear similarities in your words.
