Record dosent matter for DPOY. If it was not for Rudy Wemby would 100% win DPOY as a rookie. Just look at every past DPOY voting not just winning the award but finishing in the top 3 how many of them that finished in the top 3 in voting actually missed the playoffs. The last time that happened was in the 05-06 season with Andrei Kirilenko who finished at 3rd in voting and the Jazz finished at 9th barely missing . This is why Wemby is the excception to this rule anyone who finished in the top 3 not just winning it are playoff teams period but Wemby defense this season was so crazy you have no choice but to overlook the record.
