    Trainers, consultants and coaches often forget that it's just simply the fact that there are no consequences for poor behavior. That is the power play. If you have no leverage, then you have nothing.

    What do you mean by natural consequences?

    • @FeedTheirNeeds
      @FeedTheirNeeds 8 днів тому

      Hi! What I mean by natural consequences are the things that just happen as a result of a behavior. For example, if a student refuses to sit down or finish their work, it might mean they have to complete it later-during free time, recess, or even at home. They could also miss out on fun activities connected to the task. Or, if a student keeps calling out during class discussions, the natural result might be that they miss their chance to share because the teacher focuses on students who are following the rules. If the behavior keeps happening, they might even need to finish their work on their own, away from the group. It’s all about connecting actions to outcomes in a way that makes sense! 😊

    It is right, people should understand instructions when they are given. Gone are the days where people should blindly obey, because our elders have clearly steered us astray.

    What is the “Sunday Night Rebellion”? It’s something I just made up! Nearly everyone, regardless of age, feels this way about Sunday evenings, especially students. How about, buck up and do your job. Overly sensitive and fickle-minded teachers produce the very results in students we see today.

    Great video, thanks for posting! I'm working on my teaching credential right now and love the idea of shout outs and nonverbal motivators for the more shy students. I've also started using tickets that go into a raffle I only did once, but have seen that it was exactly what was needed to motivate some students that are just as engaged now as they were when i was handing out tickets.

    Prior to covid parents use to say that the teachers are not teaching children anything but after covid I hope the parents realise how badly they have failed to teach their children social skills, children walking and eating and spilling food from their mouths etc, to respect themselves enough to respect the adults some parents have failed their children so badly.

    Thanks for the advice! Question: how about the student who won’t let you teach and students learn or focus by constantly talking and blurting out. He won’t stop at least for half of the class period and frustrates me and students? Thanks again!

    I've been teaching for over 20 years, and students behavior has definitely declined. They are not being trained at home. The parents are teaching them to "Don't take that" from the teachers and any one else. Sad. However, these are some of the best tips I've seen so far. It takes a while to build those quality relationships that will help to eliminate the disrespect and bad behavior.

    “Nothing is personal.” Yes, it is personal. When you go above and beyond and actually invest your heart into those kids and in their undeveloped lack of social “ skill” they break your heart. THAT- IS personal. I no longer have the heart for them.

    I really loved your video. I actually did number 5 today for a difficult preschooler, but it didn't work. Me to student: If you think about it, I know you want to make your teachers happy, and that when you do what the class is doing and you listen, you have a really wonderful day, so that is something to think about. Preschooler: Nu Uh. (her exact words lol) I like being bad. I got really stuck after that one

    I'm a teacher's aide at a middle school and to be honest none of this really works in a group setting. I have a few groups of students that just refuse to be respectful, or to follow instruction. If I attempt to encourage corrective behavior I'm told to "Mind my business" or "You're not a REAL teacher" and my personal favorite "You need to check your caucasity"....The current generation coming up has zero interest in learning, and essentially no respect for others or themselves. It's infuriating, depressing, and heart breaking at the same time.

    Wow thank you so much for taking the time to make this content. I am a Sunday school teacher and I am struggling with a student who constantly needs to move … literally can’t be still and is constantly yelling out, making noise, throwing things etc. This video was very helpful. I am not sure if he has unmet needs or if I have not gained skills to communicate my expectations clearly. Thank you again. I will try using your suggestions. So helpful!!
