In what became a tuneup for a showdown next Saturday night at No. 21 Missouri, the Sooners (6-0, 2-0 Big 12) took advantage of the overmatched Cyclones (3-4, 1-2) for a record-setting night. Murray ran for 112 yards and two touchdowns and scored on a 15-yard screen pass to surpass 1969 Heisman Trophy winner Steve Owens' record of 57 touchdowns in his career.

In a game in which they benefited from one untimely Texas mistake after another, the Sooners (5-0, 1-0 Big 12) caught another break when Aaron Williams muffed a punt that would have given the Longhorns (3-2, 1-1) one last chance for a tying drive in the final 62 seconds. It was the second straight week Oklahoma nearly let a two-touchdown lead slip away.

The Sooners were very accustomed to the Cotton Bowl stadium, but usually in the middle of the State Fair of Texas on the second weekend of October. The game matched the lifeless atmosphere surrounding the stadium.

The Oklahoma Sooners won their first road game of the season, but certainly not in the form that everyone was thinking. The Sooners managed to squeak out a 31-29 victory over the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday night, in a game that was close until the very end.

Quarterback: Landry Jones had a decent game, but his inconsistency and inability to handle pressure can sink the Sooner offense. He started the game relatively well and led OU to a touchdown on their first drive, but the overall performance was uneven.

I went to that game. It was like a funeral. Cold and boring and kicked off at 10 AM. It was miserable. Glad we won. But it was lame! 😒

I grew up in the 1970s and 1980s when the Nebraska game was the biggest game on the schedule. Even bigger than Texas because it was almost always for the Big 8 title and almost always meant the Orange Bowl for the winner. Nebraska fell off a cliff but it was still fun to play them in the Bob Stoops era. Boomer Sooner!

@@kevingodair4878 I’m not sure you are remembering that game very well to say that. Oklahoma was in the Red zone 3 times in which they got zero points. A missed field goal. A goal line stand on the 1. And another turnover on downs in their territory. That easily could have been 13 points and they lost by 10. It was a pretty even match, but Oklahoma certainly had the potential to swing that game by a matter of two plays.
