How living in a tiny German village changed my life

You can easily build difficult habits
Переглядів 1,4 тис.2 роки тому
I've been thinking about why most habits fail within weeks, and it's not because we're lazy, or not trying the right techniques. It's because we're working on them separately from everything else. We're ignoring our life as a whole and trying to introduce something new into it. Eventually, habits that don't become a sustainable part of our lives are destined to fail. How focusing on work is ruining your life
Переглядів 6 тис.2 роки тому
Why work makes you feel drained and unhappy is my theory about how focusing on work is ruining our lives. We take so much time to prepare, focus and do the work that our mental health, physical health, relationships, and recreation remain completely neglected. Then we wonder why work makes us feel tired and unfulfilled, it has nothing to do with who we truly are and the notion of "work-life bal...

This is also always bothering me but I never dare to leave my job, because full time and paid less than my time spend for the work. but now I got laid off and I am trying hard to get part time job, still don't find it. I want to do creative work that I am not good at but I really want, for example create youtube.

I have two advice here. 1. With an increasing salary the tax ratio goes up as well. Calculate the sweet spot for you. 2. Contrary to what I've just said, work half a day more and invest it into a broad index fund. Over time, you accumulate more and more money that eventually gives you even more time.

not gonna lie, I've been a traditional analog watch wearer for 6+ years. I tried one of the first or second generation smart watches, but reverted back to traditional. the way you broke down all the features (Holy Molly they've come a long way) has me wanting to make the switch. I scroll all day every day, don't drink enough water, and can use the exercise reminders, but aparently there's so much more that, with how use my phone, the watch would be so much better for me overall, and could potentially replace my phone in its entirety.

So in short, if you are able to work less - you should work less. I been doing this for the last 5 years, I have a very flexible contract and only work 2-4 days a week, I own my home and have no debt and strangely enough enjoy my work more now than when I was "forced" to work a 40hr week. It frees up so much time to pursue personal interests.

Your title says it all and is exactly how I feel, I don't want to work full time either. Freedom is very important to me and I'd rather earn less but have a nice work-life balance, which part time work provides. I can't wait to watch more of your videos on minimalism and living simply!

Hi Antonia, so glad I stumbled upon your site. I'm also a minimalist and I enjoy your philosophy that less is more. Simple but meaningful is how I try to model my life as well. I also LOVE the idea of part-time work to support yourself so you can have the ultimate freedom to design your life. This video is 4 years old now. What new insight or wisdom have you gained since then about life, minimalism, simplicity, etc? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Putting it out here after the "Fruit is godlike." comment: I don't like fruit. It tastes to sweet for me and I prefer vegetables, not bitter ones though. At the same time I do love a lot of different sweets (European chocolate, Haribo, brownies...), full well knowing they are way sweeter. Yet when trying fruit it always comes down to the sweetness for me, especially with bananas or certain pears. I don't understand it at all.

  • @ashlyreed7228

I get what your saying but in my opinion this does not work honestly in reality. With the way things are and the prices of food or rent going up it would be very hard for someone living in the U.S. to do part-time. The issue here is wage, really even if someone does work full-time with the cost of things it is still not enough to live on. I think your idea would work for someone younger or who has other interests maybe doesn’t have much bills and can meet their basic needs and is fine with that. But the for the rest who have families and taking care of kids or wants to plan for the future with having retirement it is not sustainable to work part-time. There are people who have full-time jobs and can still enjoy everything life has to offer. I think it all depends really on where a person is at in life and their chosen lifestyle.

She seems to like Nature. If she's like me, she's probably happy just going for a hike, having a picnic in the park, or how about a night out in the wilderness stargazing? Dates don't have to cost anything. It's about the quality of time you spend together, not the cost. If you're really into each other, nothing else matters.💖
