Finding Our Sailing Community in La Cruz & Preparing for Baja [Eps 6]
⛵ Catching Up with Our Baja Adventure!
In this episode, we take you back to the start of our Baja journey-six months after we left the marina and dove headfirst into life aboard our 1989 Catalina 36, Tengai. While cruising brings incredible lessons in self-reliance, it can also feel isolating at times. But the support and camaraderie we found with fellow sailors in La Cruz made all the difference! 💙
Highlights:
Sailor Friends in La Cruz: We connected with a vibrant community of world-traveling sailors, including bar owners Max & Karen, who welcomed us into the sailor’s nest at Lusty’s. Petra even jumped behind the bar to help with our cruising kitty. 🍻
Learning from the Best: La Cruz offered a wealth of free workshops and clinics for sailors. From medical training to rigging inspections, we took every chance to prepare for the open seas. Little did we know, the skills we gained here would prove invaluable when Petra got stung by a stingray months later. 🏥
Conquering Fears: Petra overcame her fear of heights through rock climbing classes. Now, she’s the first to volunteer to climb the mast! 🧗♀️
Hard Work Behind the Scenes: Although it may look like we were just enjoying life, we were working tirelessly to get Tengai ready for our Baja adventure-ticking off one project after another. From installing Spartite at the mast step to getting our rigging inspected, the to-do list was never-ending! 🛠️
What You'll See:
Sailing Adventures: Whether we were racing in beer can races or cruising in Banderas Bay, we seized every opportunity to sail and improve our skills. 🌊
Life in La Cruz: This colorful town comes alive during high season, and we soaked in every moment-enjoying live music, festivals, and the unique rhythm of the cruising life. 🎶
Shoutouts: You'll spot some familiar faces from popular sailing channels, including Ruth & Gareth from Rediviva, Marissa & Chris from Avocet, and more! If you love sailing vlogs, you’ll recognize these trailblazers.
Why Watch:
Learn how we transformed fear into fun (like rock climbing and mast climbing!)
Discover the value of a strong sailing community
Get a peek behind the scenes of boat life-the hard work and the rewards
Join us on our journey from La Cruz to the Sea of Cortez and beyond!

She is so cute❤❤
I love the detailed engine fix. 😊 Nice work. And props to Petra! Not just diving and getting the prop, but in marina water 🤢😵💫lolol
Yeah I think in hindsight she may not be jumping in again :D but we're so glad she did!!
So many small spaces! Lol
So much to dive into, but the sailing looks fantastic!
The work never ends on a boat. Great watching you learn as you go.
It's definitely our motto, Learn as we go! Thank you!

Love to see Women Sailing!
Thanks again!
Hello!
I like the way you tell your story.
BRAVO!
Hi! I'm a new subscriber and a hopeful new sailor in about a year. I've been on the water before as a deckhand / Boatswain on a ship but never with sails. I look forward to getting back on the water! I really like what I see here and look forward to seeing more!
Thank you for subscribing! I hope you get on water soon, it's good your planning ahead, but then just have to dive in!
@@sailingtengai Diving sounds good lol
🐬 ❤
Great job, looking forward to see more videos ❤
Amazing!!❤❤
Ladislav, you rock!!❤❤
What was the red stuff on the beer
It’s Tajín! Good on everything down here 😊
Looks like you’ve a great set of boat projects there not to mention a great can do will fix attitude!
Boat projects never end 😊 It's a "never ending lesson" as we like to joke about. Thank you for watching!
What a god awful video.
@@mymobile5014 been enjoying yours too 🙄🙄🙄🙄
@@sailingtengai Well played!!
if you ladies want another mate with absolutely no experience but willing to learn...im available!!!! 😝I've dreamed of sailing my whole life
🇹🇷🇹🇷👍👍
Good Morning Sounds like y’all are off to a great start 😊 good fun, stay safe & thanks for sharing. I’m still loving the abandoned resort video❤
A bit creepy but a beautiful place 😊❤
Holy Cow! I can’t believe y’all went there! Just amazing 😊 Hotel California is the perfect music
HAVING FUN !
I have come to join the party!
Welcome to the party! We play hard we work hard!
I truly appreciate you two showing us all the unfiltered the good, the bad and the ugly of owning a sailboat as well as how you went about problem solving those issues. I know many of us here enjoy these videos because of the drive and determination you both show and you have no clue how many of us here on the other side of the screen are cheering y’all on! 🎊 🎉 Fair Winds and Following Seas
This is such a lovely comment it truly made our morning!! Thank you!! 😊
I think its time to replace more hoses..the picture at 1:53 shores your exhaust hose needs changing
At this point I’m kinda resolved that all original hoses probably need replacing 😅
Don’t drink it before you pour more water in 😂
Great video, congrats
@@joelthompson2696 thank you!!🙏
When did you get the pattern or get them? Great idea!!!
@@ianwilson8410 I met a guy who had a printer onboard. Measured the nuts on top and he designed the cone to be printed over. Painted them white and it’s been a lifesaver ever since! I think I the US can even go online and have people print them up if you give them meaurements and concept
Congrats! Very cool episode. Apparently, replacing the bilge pump and float is a first job for every new owner. I did mine, too. Which model Johnson pump did you go with?
@@ianwilson8410 the Johnson 2200!
@@sailingtengai also learned that the bilge pump switch aboard SV Seahorse is a three pole switch. Middle = OFF / Right = ON / Left = Float Switch On
That's what it's all about. Looking forward to seeing more. 🥂⛵
@@christinec1928 we’re learning fast and enjoying the ride ☺️
Sage looks sooooo happy and proud at the end of the episode 😊 take care ❤
@@TerezaVilímková Thank you! Sage was very happy that our boat survived the first out and in marina trial.
💙⛵️ I’m just sad that we don’t have the 360 on the camera, but also being busy getting out of the slip and being watched by all the experienced sailors at the marina as “THE GIRLS” went out for first time was a bit stressful! 😂
@@pj_aroundtheworld i can imagine being pierced by all of them 🤣
I’m so proud of y’all, watching all the problem solving & repair jobs are inspiring. Good job y’all, do something fun!
We try to balance fun and projects as much as we can! Thank you 🙏🥰
🎉🎉Tengai is out for the first time!!
