Hating myself for not asking for Kevin Powell's autograph when he came to Vegas (for a recording during Stellar Awards around 2019 or so) for playing organ on this song. Has my vote for one the top Gospel organist of our century!!!

I love this arrangement so much I had to bring it to my church. It was not easy to learn, but once we figured it out, it was magical to play and sing! Those organ chords in the beginning though, it’s beyond what I thought was possible to do with a hymn 😅

This song is "errthang" alongside a small bowl of greens. I mean really. And I no doubt like others are soooooo late to discovering Mr. Doobie and his extraordinary musical offerings. I'd love to see his songs in ballet, dance theatre and soundtracks for the motion pictures. It's usage would have little or nothing to do with religion per se, but I think others in the secular world, like myself, would just fall over themselves to appreciate his musicianship. And on a side note; this entire song not just the OBVIOUS "when ever I'm afraid" harmonizing is just killer. The chorus lends itself to harmonizing throughout. I savour every playback as if it were the first. He and they are FIRE.
