    In the UK, can you actually hold someone criminally responsible in a civil case? That’s unusual. Japan, being more advanced than the UK in this respect, only allows criminal responsibility to be determined in criminal trials. Did you know that? By the way, this "case" was dismissed without indictment in the criminal trial, and even after a neutral committee reviewed the non-indictment decision, it was still upheld. So, there is no criminal in this case. Personally, I think it’s wrong for someone to spread their one-sided perspective (which I consider to be false claims) worldwide, based solely on their own assumptions.

    Fully agree. I was so excited to see this movie and such a wonderful premise. You never really get to connect to the characters they just expect you to off the bat. It felt very disconnected and was missing real heart. They should have gone more gritty and more selective with the scenes. Lee was an incredible woman though!

    In this movie, too much of the now is projected onto the past. Everyone thinks and acts like it is 2024. What I disliked the most is the premise men bad, women good! Lee says about the woman who had a relationship with a German, "She is a victim of a man!" Women having sex is liberating, or even spiritual, men having sex is dirty! why? A hundred to one he was just some simple puberly pimply dude sent to France, as where most Germans send to the occupied territories! Maybe it was a fling! Maybe he was/is in love too same as she was/is. maybe she seduced him, maybe he is dead and that is why he is out of the picture, we are mammals, we suppress it with logic but basically, we have a biological urge to reproduce, maybe she was in heat! we are no more than sophisticated monkeys. Most pregnancies are not planned, that would not happen if we were only driven by logic!

    • @somecontrol268

      The girls had sex with someone who had invaded her country. All you say is true, he could have been a lovely lad or he could have been a rapist, she could have been having sex in exchange for cigarettes, it was a desperate time. The point is she is being judged,ostracised and having her head shaved and another is being tarred and feathered. The way these women were treated ( by both men and women ) after the war is yet another outrage. A woman like Lee definitely would have been appalled by these actions. This movie didn’t project 2024 values onto the past. Lee was already ahead of her time in every way, that is a theme of this film. And I imagine she would be disgusted at the way women are still being treated today, with men legislating over their bodies in most parts of the world.

Weak husband, horrible wife who wears the trousers and spoilt little girl that can't keep her mouth shut, crying for a dull , and the fact that her parents listened. Father freaking out in front of his family,saying he doesn't know what to do, omg lol.

      2.13pm. Agree with the reviewer. It's a powerful movie particularly at the concentration camp scenes and the shocking photos we saw as a result But the script could have been tighter and not so busy. I don't think the movie needed the dialogue between mother and son . I wanted to know more about why she chose to do what she did and how she felt about her relationships. Kate Winslet carries the film. She's an amazing actress.

    When I first saw this movie earlier this year, I was at a crucial point of figuring shit out about myself. Having grown up undiagnosed autistic, always feeling like an alien. I always ASSUMED I was straight and then realized at the age of 40 (after processing a lot of trauma) that I'm not. This movie had me ugly crying because there was so much, about multiple characters in the film, that I related to. Hit me like a ton of bricks.

  • @noncanot

    For me the main problem with the film was the initial logic of finding him. They didn't know what he looked like, only the approximate age, skin color and that he might be in the concert. So all he had to do was act normal and just walk out of there. Why exactly was he afraid of in the security check remains unknown. Also with only one change, the movie could have been so much better. If the movie didn't reveal that he's the bad guy in the very first bathroom break. They could have played the role that he's just a concerned dad, who wants to get their daughter out of the concert for much longer.

  • @dracosduckus
    @dracosduckus 3 місяці тому

    Thanks for your feedback - you provided a lot of good observation in a succinct manner. I saw the film Trap as well. My opinion differs in various areas. I'm going to try and inform this from a screenwriting perspective. Trap is a 'contained film' - it has a lot of components such as perspective, theme and development layered and moving in different paces and moments. It's not a typical feature film length screenplay fitted for a feature film length time, but rather a short story stretched in a feature film length duration. Evident of this are the long duration of moments which you and others point out in their reviews - e.g. the Lady Raven family sequence, the concert itself, the wife and Cooper moment and the moments where Cooper is figuring out how to get out. These are pretty much the main sequences taking up time. If it was a cliff-hanger / thriller of the feature film length, in an ordinary setting, you would have many more twists and turns and sequential focus on various characters. You could have more of a journey arc with the doctor in the film, or that of the wife, or even that of the person who gave the shirt. And that would be an ordinary choice for a major thriller/ horror film - you are given a breathing space to work out each character's journey. But because this is Cooper's story - and Cooper's POV - the manipulation of Trap starts at the very beginning - every main action sequence, every moment of development stems from Cooper's POV - and it actually answers a lot of the disbelief in logic you refer to. Reality in the world of everyday is not the reality of Cooper's Trap. The reason and the manipulative "spell" as to why people are acting stupid or illogical is because we, as the viewers are taken in the very tunnel vision of Cooper. We are, in a way, Cooper. He sees people as being stupid, dumb-witted and quite irrational. He sees opportunity being heightened and the fantasy of getting a pop singer into his home. He sees his children as the most precious people in his life, etc... The atmosphere, the mood, the action and the specifically, the delay of realisation, which people don't talk about, feels like a 'slowing down' or retardation of response, almost hypnotic in atmosphere. Too dreamy, and too impossible at times. This is a manipulation of character in Shyamalan's screenplay - and he has effectively placed that in his notes for the cinematographer and editor. The irksome tension of viewer watching the film, and the POV of Cooper eclipses in a shift-focal way that makes people feel cheated, angry and unsettled by this hypnotic effect. It is not a case of 'bad writing' - but of manipulative writing that extends to the visual/sensory component. That is very hard to pull off, because we are heightening the experience of a POV type of film - not a typical shifting-focus film - where we can view it from the Protagonist's POV, then to an observing POV, then from an antagonist's POV. - If we did, we would be allowed to view the arcs and development of the other characters - and that, in effect would give a different vibe to the experience, one which Shyamalan in his knowledge and experience, definitely knows. But this is a case of the director, stepping ahead - If you see the film again - with this better understanding that you are being manipulated into viewing the experience through Cooper's mind, you will start to see the manipulation work. Cooper is a psychopath - and we are numbed into his experience. Unlike Christian Bale's Psycho - where we are observing his personality and see the horrific ends to his victims, Trap puts the soft-fur glove over the hand which holds the butcher's blade. It's deadening / softening the blow - and hence, we also get a milder rating. The horror. The thrilling aspect is actually a textured, layering of a delayed effect which, in a result, can make viewers wanting to review or rethink what they saw, as if it was like a dream that's not to be trusted. The so-called idiocy of logic which many critics hate and reference to - is based primarily on what we recognise before many times in a action-based thriller - be it fast paced, snappy decisions and unexpected plot turns. That's the cliched norm - that is the expectation - that is the norm. Flip the switch, dial down the expectation and buffer it with almost an unexpected smooth ride, and you have a different experience. Action plot takes a back seat and character POV takes a front seat. We are Cooper watching Cooper - a different experience - and one which Shyamalan has crafted quite cleverly using very strong manipulative psychological effect from the usage of sound, lighting, camera work, character acting and speed. This is why characters are sounding 'unnatural' and stylised - because we are seeing them in Cooper's eyes. He sees them as stupid or innocent (in the case of his daughter) - everyone is putty in his hands. That's the double-playing effect Shyamalan has done effectively well. This wasn't a case of bad writing, it's layered writing. I'd suggest - watch again, with a different perspective, and you'll see the maladaptive pattern emerging. It's a hypnosis.

      I appreciate the thorough response, these are the kind of comments I love cause you're offering a different perspective in the form of discussion and not belittlement, and that's rare to find these days and I appreciate you taking the time to break it down. It's unlikely I will rewatch trap because quite frankly juggling a full time job, social life and keeping up with the new releases leaves very little time for rewatches l, and despite your explanation it doesn't explain the shortcomings of everything that happens after the concert as at that point out perspective shifts away from cooper for a bit, but I respect your explanation, it's thorough and certainly breaks down a lot of my issue with Trap but not all of them. Thanks again for watching

      @@TheMovieApprentice No worries. Thanks for taking time to read! You're right, it may not explain some areas of problems, and I admit, even though the analysis was there, I could find faults too - if you want me to be honest in that area, I really think htat's more of executive decisions based on the Warner Bros dep on Shyamalan's edit - due to restraints such as time required for the movie, which might have been out of Shyamalan's control even though he is the director. The reason why I say that is because, if you look carefully at some of the trailers, there are actually scenes or images in them that are not in the movie. I remember waiting for some of those images to be shown in the film, and scratched my head thinking, "where was it?" - and it might be part of the reason why it was a bit of alet down for viewers. Also, there is one huge script problem. In the beginning, Cooper drives Riley to the concert. What happened to the parked car???? Cooper and Riley are driven back home to their home in a limo....Maybe a ghost drove their car back home? lol. I personally think, as with most cases of movies, a lot was placed on the cutting room floor because the film was most likely longer than 1 hr 45 min. So, maybe there might be a director's cut of Trap in the future? Either way, a lot of viewers in the test run and elsewhere want to see a sequel. You've got a good channel - and I enjoy your input!

      Agreed! People claim they want complex but then fail to see the complexities. I liked it and all the cues and nuisances within the film. It had me stressed, annoyed, rooting for Cooper, sad and happy. M. Night always has out the box, seemingly simplistic but layered films.
