A touching book, aimed at the hearts of feminists, animal lovers and survivalists. It goes to show that when most people live in bubbles or on bursting other people's bubbles, humanity cannot be unlearned. Even if there's fewer left to teach... #booktube #survivalist #animallover #feminism

How to quiet a vampire Borislav Pekic book review
Guilt is a 24/7 working vampire.Or is the real culprit an umbrella? A demanding philosophical novel from Borislav Pekic, that deals with war time memories as well as crashing thinkers from their high horses. The circular nihilistic logic of self interest is calling for any theory's bluff. We honestly don't think your principles can survive a showdown with this book... Instagram: thestaristhebook...

Attention all you eco-anxious tree huggers and animal lovers ! Reading this book should be mandatory to placate environmental angst. It's bound to make at least a dent in all cynical armours ; I'm a bona fide naysayer and, while reading it, sometimes felt like being trampled by an elephant...Just because hope is too big to fail us! #booktube #environmentalist #elephant #romaingary #africanwildl...

A creepy novel about how sense can be found, by virtually everyone, in war.How sentiments can be whipped up to the border of reason and justify the unthinkable. And I still believe that this was inspired by Brad Pitt's portrayal of Goldilocks! #ww1 #colonialism

You Peter pan syndrome afflicted idealist .....is so good I am going to steal it...😂😂
Great review
Beautiful analysis. If 8 years of obama did not convince us of everything Koessler warned of in Darkness of Noon, then I feel sorry for society.
Can't wait to get my hands on this book agaiiiin
Unlike Joe, I can't start my day with a punch up or a whisky cola.Reading is my way to settle scores

Hello, this is a great review. We have a similar book called "Birth Penalty"coming out in 2024 by a Zimbabwean poet talking a similar style. Please do reply if you may be interested and we can share a manuscript
Thanks, glad you liked.Birth Penalty is a great title.I would love to read it , please send it my way - bookfortuneteller@gmail.com
I read this book 3 times back to back its so good
Every time I try to write something, I feel like I'm ripping something off Martin Dean musings...
For most of his life, Jasper Dean couldn't decide whether to pity, hate, love, or murder his certifiably paranoid father, Martin, a man who overanalyzed anything and everything and imparted his self-garnered wisdom to his only son. So far, this story haves grit & it is a story that mostly hides under the carpet, to come out with it takes guts and guts they have.
I should have focused more on their relation during my review. But I was too enamored with Martin, who I feel is a modern equivalent to Socrates, with all his insights into human fallibility. Jasper is the unwilling Plato
I'm nearly finished with reading this book, but to be honest, it's not the kind of book I would pick up again to read. I'm generally not fond of children, as narrators, and since this is a look back into the narrator's past (current day is 1979), looking back into the events from the mid-1940s to 1948, I found discrepancies between the narrator's adult and child voice which I found jarring. Also, this kind of backwoods northwestern small town tale is not the kind of story I normally go for. I tend to prefer more sensory, dense and descriptive writing which is not Brautigan's style. I really appreciate your review, though. Thanks.
Many thanks! I perfectly understand that. I've commited the tragic error of re-reading Catcher in the Rye in my forties...For me, it comes to down to having raised a kid. After that, you never wanna hear their opinion on absolutely nothing...
I got my things and left indeed. Really cool.
Dambudzo had knock out power : " We came out of the bottle-store arm in arm, the way Jesus and Judas must have been when they both knew each other's secret" .Another hard gem: "I found a seed, a little seed, the smallest in the the world. And its name was Hate. I buried it in my mind and watered with tears. No seed ever had a better gardener"
Me encanta esa obra

New author to me. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Adorei!
Amma suggest my favourite book of all times. The Shell: Memoir Of a Hidden Observer. By Mostafa Khalifa
This book has been banned in Syria by the Government, not by the citizens whom loved and respected the book, those who got a hold of it illegally. The government didn't want people inside or outside the country to know about the book. This book is not politic based, it is rather a compelling story of the author who had been put in prison and blamed guilty of acts he had not committed. The story has graceful high ups and gruesome down lows, and so many different scenarios happening through out the book, making the book an absolute page turner. I read the book in Arabic, but the book is translated to English and people are giving the translator a lot of credit for his accurate translation on Amazon reviews. So check the book out I promise you will be surprised.
I'm having a hard time finding that book...You sure left me curious about it...Thanks!
@@thestaristhebook368 I sure hope you find, its a great book.
Too Loud is one of my absolute favourite books. Thanks for noticing it. x
You're welcome, hope I did it justice! One time, I was reading the Invention of Morel in the subway, when a total stranger gave me, out of the blue, a collection of short stories by Cortazar. Next time I saw him, I returned Cortazar's book and lent him a copy of Too Loud.We used to travel on the same schedule and I noticed he started avoiding me, until I stopped seeing him altogether. The reason I've not lost all faith in mankind was because Bohumil seems to have gained another devoted reader. Fine by me!
Hi, I really liked how you started this review. I cannot wait to read what you described here! Also I liked the suggestion in the description. I will definitely come back, once I am through with these texts.
Many thanks! Hope you enjoy the book( it can be a bit confusing at times, just plow through)
Found him this year. Thank you.
the few things I've read about his biography, seems like he was one of his own characters. What a writer! Thanks for watching
A very good summary of a great novelette
Thanks, Geoffrey! Feel free to suggest some authors...
Love Larry Brown. His short stories are amazing too.
Thanks for your comment, James.Next Larry Brown on the list is Dirty Work
Did you also read the book "Rebellion"? I did, at the time I read "The Pages", and it enriched the total reading experience. Had never read Joseph Roth, now intend to read others by him.
Greetings, Jon! I should have read Rebellion simultaneously, but it is still on my to do list.I recommend Radetzky March, about historical delusions of grandeur( and with one of the most memorable death scenes I've ever read..)
Boa resenha!
Muito obrigado, Jessé. Boas leituras!
Descobri hoje teu canal e gostei muito. Abraços do Brasil.

Saving books is a heroic act.
I live in Eugene, Oregon where the book is based on. People do not know how great Brautigan was and he is forgotten for the most part in the area. I try to tell people to check him out.
Thanks for the info, Joseph, I didn't know that.and thanks for preaching the Brautigan Gospel, I'm trying to do that in Portugal myself...
This is my favorite book of all time.
Grande história camarada! Gosto em ver-te. Luís Filipe Ferreira
Um forte abraço, Luís, obrigado!Tudo de bom e dá notícias!
Read this years ago. Loved it.. I also have his 2nd novel Quicksand which I have not read yet. Welcome to booktube. Great community. Keep up the good work.
Many thanks for your feedback, James. All the best!
Just read this book today in one sitting. We'll done.
Thanks, James !
I really love this book. I am currently rereading it. My other favorite book by Brautigan is In Watermelon Sugar. People who like books with a childish narrative might like books by Nodar Dumbadze, such as I See the Sun or Granny, Illiko, Illarion and I.
Thanks for your comment and suggestions, Irina. Watermelon Sugar is next on my list...
Adorei! ❤️ Tens que me voltar a emprestar uns livros 😘
