Vai did good work on that album.. whitesnake too. I appreciate and respect vai highly.. but as it turned out on those albums,, keeping him on a shorter leash made for some really great, easy to digest, melodic stuffs. And some killer rhythms. D

Great question. When I bought my first guitar in 1986 I asked the guitar salesman "How long will it take before I get good on guitar?" He answered, "It's not the days or months or even years. It's the "hours". He told me if I practiced one hour a day it could take multiple years. If I practiced 4-6 hours a day it would take about a year to start to really play guitar. I was in high school when I started and I just played and played and played. I think I averaged around 5 hours a day and in almost exactly one year I was in a garage band knocking out Judas Priest, Aerosmith and some Van Halen. Granted I wasn't very good but I just love playing the guitar. I play everyday and the stories are fun to share. I had lessons for about 3 months and then I honestly just learned from all my guitar magazines. "GFPM" and "Guitar World" were purchased every month and once I learned TAB I was off and running:) Fun to think of all the good days playing music in the garage with my best friends. Great memories:) In short, I sat in my bedroom for hours and hours and stared at my walls with pictures of my guitar heroes and kept playing. My room in high school pretty much looked like my room in this video:) (dad)

This is my favorite Priest album, regardless of the disdain it's gained through the years. Lots of bands were experimenting with synthesizers and whatnot at the time and changing their sounds (ZZ Top anyone?), but for whatever reason Priest got SO much flack for it, especially since they briefly changed out the all black leather and studs look for a time (only to go back to it in just a couple of years). As I get older and gain more of an affinity for the 80's, it just gets better and better for me.

I always remember circa '94-'95 my best buddy was obsessed with learning this tune perfect. It was so annoying because we'd get together to jam and he'd break into this every time we messed up or stopped finished another song.
