Impromptu poetry night with friends! I challenged Matthew to write a parody of William Blake's poem "The Tyger" about a raccoon instead, and this is what we came up with. This is the biggest attendance we've ever had for poetry night! Thank you, Tasneem and Ohan, for hosting us! Here are the original William Blake poem and Matthew's and my raccoon renditions: Blake - "The Tyger" Tyger Tyger, bu...
How to Replace Cat Harness Velcro with D-ring Fastener

This sewing tutorial shows how to replace the Velcro closure on a Kitty Holster (cat vest harness) with D-rings. If your cat is terrified of noisy Velcro, this is the perfect solution. Even if your cat doesn't mind Velcro, that stuff will lose its grip strength eventually. Part 1 of the video shows how to use a salvaged D-ring fastener from a motorcycle helmet. Part 2 shows how to make your own...

This is a lecture I gave on some art I made out of upcycled lab waste at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria on Friday, March 1, 2024. The Q & A session is omitted in this video for privacy reasons. One big thing I forgot to mention in the talk is that a primary reason that lab plastics don't get recycled in Austria is that consumer tax isn't paid on lab supplies, so if the municipa...

    What if you want to wash your body with the bar soap? Do you just dry it with a towel afterwards or what do you do?

    • @SakiDoingThings
      @SakiDoingThings День тому

      @@sneakysnek8416 I put mine in a part of the shower that doesn't get splashed very much, preferably on a shelf above head level so you don't drip water onto it when you grab it. After using it, I sort of milk it like an udder to get as much water off as I can before returning it to the shelf. The shelf should have some kind of drainage system, otherwise you can buy a soap dish that has one or towel-dry the area before leaving the shower, as you suggested.

    Where do I get caps in so many colors, let alone such soft ones

    • @SakiDoingThings
      @SakiDoingThings 3 місяці тому

      All bottle caps should be the same plastic (HDPE, a.k.a. #2 plastic). I usually collect bottles after a house party. In America, red is Coke, orange is Fanta, yellow is 7-Up or tonic water (Schweppes), green is ginger ale (Canada Dry) or Mountain Dew, blue is Pepsi or Brisk Tea, and purple is grape soda (also by Fanta). If you don't drink soda, you can also use bottle caps from milk jugs or smoothie bottles-they are all made of HDPE.

    Long time ago my soap bar used to last 3 to over 4 weeks although I use it daily 3 to 4 times a day. Today, the soap bar shrinks to very tiny piece of soap bar after few days only from extracting it from new box of soap bar (4 to 5 days only) although I am using it the same way I did before. I wonder why now a days my soap bar (same to the bars I bought before) last few days only when it lasted over a month, in the last years...! It look like I have a JENNY in my basement who is stealing my handwashing soap bar ...! I have been examining this strange phenomenon for a while and the same thing keep happening again and again. Any advice ?

    • @SakiDoingThings
      @SakiDoingThings 3 місяці тому

      You are consuming a while bar of soap in a few days?? That is a lot. Do you have roommates who use it? Is it possible that you don't remember washing your hands 20X more often than you used to? There's also the possibility that the manufacturer changed the soap recipe, but I wouldn't expect it to be that drastic...

    Thank you for showing this! I'd heard of poetry nights and wholly dismissed them as whinging sessions thinly veiled as "high art because it rhymes." This was a fun evening with friends while exploring abstract concepts and word sounds + feelings. I'll be looking for opportunities to join my own poetry nights now. Thank you!

    • @SakiDoingThings
      @SakiDoingThings 4 місяці тому

      I'm so glad to hear that this inspired you to try out poetry nights! This is not the only style of poetry night. Sometimes you'll find more open mic-style ones, themed (topic) sessions, or community focused ones. I have been to poetry readings where LGBTQ+ writers were featured, for example, and ones where only freestyling was allowed. The casual living room type is by far my favorite so far.

    Im looking at recreating a horse codpiece i had when i was younger (for my 30th birthday) do you think it will require much alteration to make a horses head with a pouch to secure my junk in? Absolute godsend of a video though- tysm!

    • @SakiDoingThings
      @SakiDoingThings 4 місяці тому

      Great project idea! I think a horse head would work in principle, as long as the diameter of the horse's neck fits onto the codpiece base. However, what you said about the pouch...I don't think a stretchy/soft fabric would provide enough structural support for the horse's head. Several solutions that come to mind: You could construct the codpiece as shown in this video and wear a separate thong or jockstrap (or undergarment of your choice) underneath. You could make the pouch itself out of a rigid material such as leather, but you will need more of a cup-shape pattern instead of the one I used, which is more of a decorative hat as opposed to a basket for your goods. The drawback is that you would have to stitch the horse's head onto the rigid material, which means either using an industrial sewing machine or handsewing with upholstery needles. For the cup pattern, try doing a Google search for medieval or leather codpiece patterns. Another option (probably better than the one I just mentioned) is to buy an athletic cup (the kind football players use) and use contact cement to cover that in fabric, and then use contact cement to attach the horse head to it. Usually the cups you find at sporting goods stores already come with adustable elastic, so this would be a 100% no-sew solution!

    Thanks for the great video. I've always been leery of sewing machine attachments in general and buttonholers in particular. I think that it's partially because they're so cheap and plentiful. It seems like everyone had one and no one used them. You changed my mind though and I bought one very similar to yours (mostly because it's black metal and matches my 1937 Singer 128). I got it off ebay complete in box (including a slightly different but equally funny manual) and almost unused for something like $18. It works so well that I almost feel like i did something unethical. Nothing costs $18 anymore, especially perfectly functional antique sewing accesories. Great tutorial as well btw, you're fun to listen to!
