Nevada Northern Railway - Winter Spectacular February 2024
Переглядів 1 тис.8 місяців тому
From February 16-18, the Nevada Northern Railway hosted their annual Winter Spectacular event. I was lucky enough to be one of the runner up winners of their Steel, Steam, and Strobes scholarship and was able to attend the event because of it. The event featured engines 93 and 109 doing run-bys around the East Ely yard, and 93 running along the Keystone and HiLine branches of the railroad. Webs...

Cheyenne Frontier Days Train Leaving Denver 2017
My special needs son loves trains 🚆🚄🚅🚇🚈🚉🚊🚝🚞🚋🚟🛤 especially steam locomotives 🚂 and alco diesels like those!
I lived in Durango for about 9 months back in '87 working on a house, right after the potato truck incident. It was on Park Ave and the back over looked the bridge across the Animas, got to see the train several times a day. Spent time hiking the area and I've even managed to ride it a few times. I guess it's good that they've switched to oil but there's was something about that coal grit in your teeth to let you know where you'd been.
Exellent
Fantastic 👍
Wow, never seen oil burn that black. Awesome 👍👍 Great photography and sound. Thanks 🙏
So relaxing sound 😊
I lived in Albuquerque for about 7 years in the 1980's, and never knew this sonic railroad even existed! It was before the internet. I would have LOVED to have seen and ridden on it. Damn it!
For us Aussies, a wonderful memory of our holiday ride to Durango and return way back in 2000. Awesome scenery and fabulous trains. Will never forget! Thanks for sharing this fabulous footage.
Are more videos coming?
Working on 1-2 more :)
It feels like being there!
Thank you! I look forward to seeing your coverage of it
Cool video.
Beautiful sites. Quite different to when I visited back in the Summer! Thanks Trevor. Simon
Extremely under rated Channel this is some of the best stuff I've ever seen!
Thank you very much!
Awesome!!
Thanks!
Up 3985,5511 & 6936
its nice to see 2 old trains that still run
Good Job On The Video.
Thank you!
Great footage!
Thanks!
0:00 what happen to the audio?
Microphone cable wasn't connected properly, really liked the footage though and didn't want to leave it out.
Great footage of the steam locomotives!
and hyce?
K-36 481's whistle almost sounds like the Polar Express.
Magnificent catches of the train coming by and pass, I like it 5 stars, keep up the great work, my friend, i subscribed your channel, Greetings from Portugal to the USA.
Why does it need a diesel pusher to help pull that not so long string of passenger cars? Is it because of the water tenders?
Well done!
Thank you!
It sounds like the big boy has 844's whistle in this video
844's whistle was 4014's service whistle. For this trip, 4014 finally got its whistle back.
Can’t wait to see 3985 on the rail’s again
They need to get all of these rusting hulks out of City parks and into good museums. Steamtown needs to sell the Canadian stuff to Canadian museums/ tourist railroads and acquire American pieces.
I hope that alll these will be restored to operation condition rather than being parked in a field outside for decades to rust.
They WILL be restored to operation.
What days do the trains run there? Thanks 🙏
Best way to know is to check their website. You can also sign up for their newsletter to get info in advance.
At 1:53 you captured an incredible shot. A 20 year old GE pulling 2 of it's elders. Kinda reminds me of a modern day GI assisting elderly veterans.
Awesome catches, well done!
It would be awesome if a future gathering of big mainline steam in Silvis with 3985, 5511, 261 and 6988 is possible!
how inelegant and distasteful, moving some of the most iconic locomotives preserved by UP including the EMD DD A40x, with a beat up, dirty, smoking old GE junkamotive locomotive. At the least they could have used one of the EMD SD 70's or like locomotive. Glad that the DD, and the 3985 are going to be restored and brought back to running condition. Personally, I like the 3985 more than the 4014.
They could have at least washed those dirty ass locos delivering those iconic steamers. It looks like up might be just unloading stuff they don't want to pay to restore.
I'm excited to see 5511 getting restored!
5511's Lookin mighty fine
They need to get this convoy up to 60+mph and see how much smoke, sparks and steel can fly off of this stuff
Ya, that's exactly what should be done with historic pieces of equipment being generously donated to an organization that is willing to restore them to their former glory. You bet.
@@jasondrinovsky7962 If you like that idea than get it up to 100mph going around a turn
This is a hospital train, in which the equipment is not operational. In addition, 5511 has journal bearings that do not allow it to go at 60 mph. If the equipment WAS operational, then it could have gone faster.
@@davidng2336 It will go faster, you just need more diesel engines. A bunch of JATO rockets would really help get this old iron up to speed
@@K-Effect when restored, yes, they can go much faster.
Wow! This is stunningly beautiful! Some positions there I don't think I've seen done before; the first at Cascade Trestle for example. Fantastic video work. Thank you for sharing. /Simon
Thank you so much!
I thought 4014 was leading the excursion
It's not an excursion
@@EngineerDaylight not the point but I thought 4014 was leading
@@railroadfan-io7ns it cannot. This is a hospital train where it must travel at slow speeds. Steam is not fit for this type of train.
@@davidng2336 how is it a hospital train
@@railroadfan-io7ns because the equipment being moved are NOT OPERATIONAL.
Vanderfull video! 👍👍🚂🚃🚃🚃
Thank you!
Great video!
Thanks!
I’m glad you were able to get a few shots of this train! By understanding the deal that was made, my mind still wonders whether or not UP would want any of this equipment back after they get restored.
Recalling back to the original announcements earlier this year, IIRC, UP decided to dedicate their historical PR efforts to keeping 4014 and its train on the rails as long as possible. They made the difficult decision on what to let go permanent. Keeping all of this active was more burden than UP cared to invest.
I am too, it will be interesting to see what happens when everything is operational again
I agree they could have at least washed the 5716 before heading for IL. Does anyone know when this will be going through eastern iowa??
@@brentcousins1471 if it hasn't done so already, it will enter Iowa tomorrow. It will then exchange with the Iowa Interstate.
The only one I'd see them MAYBE wanting back is 3985 or perhaps 6936. There's a slim chance they might want a third steamer in the future to extend 844's life as long as possible (since it's run for over 70 years). UP actually had little interest in restoring 5511, they said it's speed was too low and just not the type of engine they needed for their heritage operations. They had been trying to sell the engine for years (either for a display or operation), but no one ever really moved to purchase it until the folks in Silvis showed interest. If they can get her running successfully, 5511 might have found her perfect home. She's a huge 2-10-2 without much articulation, meaning the flatlands of Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska are the ideal place for her to run. Add in a team who hopefully will treasure and love her (after all 5511 is the last of her kind, the TTT class), and UP's "Forgotten Giant" may at last have a place to thrive and be used to her full potential.
Wow very nice your video 👍 I also do content like that
