    You fell foul of a drop shipping company. The company you dealt with is merely an intermediary who takes your money, sends it off to China less a small fee for themselves, and allows the Chinese company to send you the goods. The drop shipping company never sees the goods which is why they wanted you to send the goods back to China. It's questionable whether the Australian address they gave you is even genuine. The "Australian" company took a huge loss this time but they count on most people not bothering to pursue a claim for the shoddy goods. Like most crooked activity, their income is far less than the cost of harm to their victims. You didn't mention how much you paid but generally the drop shipping company gets no more than 10%. When the company name they use gets too many bad reviews and complaints, they simply shut that name down and establish another one, doing the same thing again. It is indeed a scam but because you actually get the goods and they offer compensation for the minority of customers who complain long enough, it's not technically illegal and they are free to keep ripping people off for years on end. One way to reduce the risk of dealing with drop shipping companies, most of which are dodgy, is to look up their trading address on Google Maps and Streetview. If it isn't a warehouse or at least a property with a decent sized shed or garage, chances are they are drop shipping.

      It wasn't a huge cost, a total of around $170 and you are dead right; at that cost and given the back and forth with offer and counter-offer (not to mention that Paypal were not that easy to wake up) it would have been easier to accept the loss, or take one of the offers of a discount. But I am tenacious and eventually got the $170 back, plus $45 for postage and finally the goods themselves when they were returned with no delivery possible in China. I guess even that address was fake. And that is undoubtedly part of the scam. People are told by the scammer they can return the goods for a refund only to find the refund is never issued, the goods eventually find their way back to the poor buyer and they are still out of pocket and now disheartened and take it no further. Thanks for the comment and the information. I am more cautious now and I hope any viewer is too . . . Regards, Alan

      @@theoldmanandthebus The worst case would be to use their internal refund process and then have them claim they never got the goods. Using Paypal, as you did, to pursue the claim is the much better option because then you have Paypal's records of the complaint, the company can't say they "never got" the returned goods and Paypal will enforce the refund if necessary.

      Apropos the touching with fingers on high temp bulbs, I used to work in theatres where we change the bubbles (lamps) regularly. I have seen deformed lamps and had them blow explosively. An old timer (Sheesh I am older now than he was then) told me that he thought that the oils/acids on the fingers would effectively change the surface tension on the “glass” and create the defects in the process of subsequent heat/cool cycles. The big 5000 watt lamps would go off like a gunshot. There was a paper wrap we used to insert lamps with and alcohol wipes if you needed them. In those days those wipes were expensive!

    • @theoldmanandthebus
      @theoldmanandthebus Рік тому

      The engine mounts being flogged out can cause vibration and noise though there are lots of causes for that to happen. If this is suspected it is pretty easy to check if this engine mount needs replacement by lifting the cover off and pulling and pushing on the engine to see if there is excess movement. With mine, and since this was done, I have found this alone did not solve all of the vibration, though it helped. I do need to do at least one other mount. This one is dead easy to replace though so give it a go if you think it needs replacement. Thanks for the question.

    Alan, you only need to have a MOD plate for the change in seating capacity. After that you can register it as normal. I don't believe you need to change the designation from bus to light truck. Either way, you still need a LR license as a minimum. My opinion is that it's probably better to get an MR license since they cost the same and are equally difficult to obtain (that is, not very hard at all). MR will give you the option to drive a single rear axled truck of any size if there happens to be a need to do so. Anyhow, just my two cents worth, mate. Thanks for the video and chat. Having just been for a scan of bladder, kidneys and prostate today, it was quite pertinent.

I thought it was worthwhile having a conversation about such issues as we tend not to share these kinds of issues and they stay in the dark. I got my HR licence upgrade late last year for the very reasons you mentioned so all good to go! It was exactly the same to do the HR upgrade as the MR as they actually used the same truck but for the HR just lower the second axle so it is a dual axle truck. 🙂 Here's that licence success video if you are interested - ua-cam.com/video/o9PuxKSG2S0/v-deo.html

    Sorry to hear the news. Get the bus done. BTW... if the bus is NOT registered, DO NOT remove the ducts until you can register it as a Van or Light Truck. The reason is once you remove the ducts, you will endup removing the walls also (especially the rear wall). By removing the rear wall, you will expose all the wires for the bus AC and that has to be covered befor you will be able to register the bus. The don't exposed wires. I am in the process of building a new back wall etc to cover all the wires and electronics.

    I came across your channel from Dyani's one, I'm hoping to achieve a bus conversion once I can source somewhere to put it. A friend of mine who has travelled quite a lot through WA and NT for work (remote community worker) said that she would only ever drive a Toyota, I'm wondering what your thoughts were on what you think about the Mitsubishi Rosa reliability? I'm looking at a Toyota Coaster but am open to other similar vehicles, however hearing about the Ivecco comment your friend made, do you think the Rosa would be a good vehicle to travel around Australia in? It will just be me and my son who will be 5 when we head off. Many thanks.

    • @theoldmanandthebus
      @theoldmanandthebus Рік тому

      @SunshineBeauty I'm a big fan of Dyani and she is doing a great job of her conversion, I learned a lot watching her videos. In terms of reliability, I reckon you could toss a coin but I agree that the Toyota Coaster is a more popular choice. And many people do have a fondness for Toyotas as do I. I have a Toyota Landcruiser Troopcarrier too. But the Rosa in standard form is slightly larger and it is based on the Mitsubishi Fuso chassis so it is a bus built on a truck chassis with a truck engine. But both the Coaster and Rosa vary a little between years so it is hard to do a direct comparison. Personally I reckon they are pretty much identical in terms of adaptability and durability. I bought this particular one because it had super low kms so is barely used, though ten years old. Good luck, and keep an eye on the build as I go hey? Thanks for the comment, always happy to answer questions. Regards, Alan

Good luck with the bus! Your humour is very much like my dad, so I'm enjoying your channel :)

      I use DaVinci Resolve Joe. Naturally there is a learning curve, but there are plenty of tutorials on UA-cam. And it's free! Good luck mate. Regards, Alan

      I saw your episode at the property mate. Yep, it wasn't that tough but it is remarkable how easy they are to stop. Just needed some encouragement from the Troopy's winch and all sorted. It has made me think about a bull bar and winch on the bus though Andrew . . .

    Haha we do have long talks that’s for sure!! 😅😅 don’t worry, this is equally as irritating for us to film it, we’re always told we’re “old souls”, but I think it’s just because we get along better with boomers than our own generation haha but yea, this is the first time I’ve decided to film a construction job Ive done. Previously, I generally forget to even take photos lol😅

      But Deep Walks Scot? Any of those? How's the data wars? I enjoy the process of documenting it, but dealing with the sheer volume of footage and audio recordings can be as challenging as recovering a bogged vehicle.

      @@theoldmanandthebus I have a new problem now ! Now my computer is flat out crashing from the overload of editing… the bloody thing is only 2 years old and has 64gb of ram! Errrgh the world we live in now your computer is too old after you’ve taken it out of the shop!

      @@Deeptalkers So far so good with the computer crashing but I have to say that I invested in a video card in order to speed the process up - and even make Premiere Pro work on my PC. But I mostly edit on my laptop with DaVinci Resolve but it also has a video card, rather than relying on the inbuilt video on the motherboard. Could that be your salvation Scot? What editing software are you using?
