'Steam is Everything' Impressions of The Festiniog Railway 1975
Переглядів 1,2 тис.Рік тому
A film entitled Steam is everything - impressions of the Festiniog Railway, made in summer 1975. The back story of this is worth telling. A year or so ago, a package arrived by post at Harbour Station, addressed to the archivists, containing two 16mm film cans along with a note saying they had been found by a neighbour in a skip, along with many other film cans following a bereavement house cle...

I very much recognise Snowdon; mountain and where the railway starts. I went there on a school trip once. We only went half way up though, due to how lousy the wind was then. I forget which locomotive it was that pushed our coach up though.
Thanks for posting this. I saw it back in 1974 and been looking for a copy since. Seems that it is locked in time as the Colonel passed on and now there is road access, still the film captures the magic of North Wales so well.
Thanks . Great video. My favourite place.
When the beeb made some decent programmes.
I'm glad to see that somebody else remembers this great, old series. Somewhere, there's a pilot or first episode about the three champions becoming champions
still in decline
23:24 Steam - ? is Clive Gibbard. Great discovery and well produced
Shame it never got the funding.
That brought a little tear to my eye. Wonderful.
Interesting.
Interesting.
I’ve been on this!
I should call this episode-Thunderball Reunited, because Bernard Lee [M] plays Squires and Philip Locke [Vargas] plays Yeats and he became a goodie for William Gaunt [Richard Barrett] for helping him out from being frozen. I love this episode, and I remember this broadcast on a Wednesday afternoon in July 1986 at 1:30 pm.
wonderful footage of the TR in the 1990s
While the whole presentation was delightful, I think I was especially drawn to the stories told by Sir Williams-Ellis about his life and how he developed his village attraction. I have been to the Ffestiniog Railway with family members, but didn't get to see Portmerion village. Must keep it in mind if I ever go to North Wales again. Regards, Samuel Farris.
I am trying to understand whether even in the railways of continental Europe (France, Italy, etc.) staffs and tokens were used to regulate access to single track routes, a system apparently still in use in the United Kingdom, in the peninsula Indian, Argentina and so on. Thank you in advance for your precious collaboration
Hey. Can I please use some of your footage in my films? I will credit you for it.
Hello please can upload more Ffestiniog Railway 1988 UA-cam videos
Is this actually the original ch4 airing from 1985? Amazing if so! Cheers
As far as I can remember, it is a 2nd generation VHS to VHS as that was the only way to collect recordings in those days. It would be nice to get a direct copy from the master tape if it still exists.
WOW! That had me griped from beginning to the end. What a wonderful voice. It boosted my prifde in being a Welshman. Diolch yn fawr iawn.
Brilliant find and so close to home 👍
My mum was born and raised in Oswestry, and my grandfather used to talk about the Cambrian. This is a heartwarming video for me
Ahh, one of the rare occasions I’ve seen the push pull service working
A load of crap! The dozy eyed idiot could hear an approaching Car before the other character - but later on he had to put his Ear to the door to listen in on a conversation.
I have been on the Railway a few times before.
A Really Useful Railway.
A Really Useful Railway.
Thank you for making mine and my DAD's day!
I have been on it before.
Really Useful.
chasing in a Victor FC101, 3 speed gearbox, dead slow, slow and sedate...
❤good spot that man!
My Grandma had a similar thing happen to her
It's NOT Blaenaw!! It's Blaenau. As in Aye,aye.Spoit it at the beginning.
She was killed the day after the first edition was broadcast, resulting in a hiatus for the rest of the series. Watching her here, it's horrible to think what lay ahead.
Interesting.Never saw the show before.
Beautiful country glad it was preserved for future Generations to pass through here by Train ,What a gem of a bygone era ❤️ With the sound of Classic Traction Clag going through this beautiful part of Scotland 🏴❤️Miss these days with proper trains when people could look out of the window ❤️ Privatisation has ruined it with the mess today's railways are .
At least they bloody ran...
