Elden Ring was my starting point too, and Varre taught me an important lesson for all Souls games: Don't hit NPCs unless you know what you're doing. Also, since you picked Confessor, I highly recommend purchasing Catch Flame from Brother Corhyn at the Roundtable Hold. It's a great close range spell.

This game doesn't come down to mainly skill though it is still key don't get me wrong... It's confidence which most games death has little penalty but with these games you feel every death 100x more than most games especially in areas with long runbacks. Death just effects your mentality so much more than most... Like when he got boss down to sliver of health he wasn't really angry but his confidence soared because he knew that meant he could win what seemed impossible

Started the game, watched the tutorial, and ignored it despite it being his first Souls... Attack the first non-aggressive NPC he sees... Yes, he just needed to take the path to the cemetery to have an average first experience xD (luckily for him this is ER and not DS1). But hey, you're moving forward... and you're right to not be in a rush for the DLC. Good luck

my keybinds in this game are shift to dodge and sprint, space is jump (as it should be from the start) E to interact (hold E for the satchel items) and left click is light attack, right click is block, and then my two mouse buttons are heavy attack and ash of war. as for the item problem since I go with binds that I just make up in my brain I use Z, X, C, V for the 4 item slots so C and V I can hit with my thumb and X with my pointer. Z it the weird one but I made it spells cause i dont use magic much other than buffs so i never need to scroll it mid fight

Played Elden Ring on release got lost and vouldnt beat bosses so i put it down for almost a year due to really being confused and just got promoted at my work so i took it seriously and gaming was put on the backburner a year later and I fell in love with it much the same feeling as skyrim for the first time. Truly an amazing game. Also when it comes to M/K I am more accurate but with controller im much better in general so even for fps I tend to go controller

I basically only use mouse and keyboard but...please use a controller for this game, save yourself 😂 not that I don't think you could do it, it's just not worth it. I think the Donkey Kong bongos are actually a better peripheral for Souls games than using your keyboard lol. Great game, though, I just started playing recently myself. bind change L/ R Weapon, spells, flasks to 1-2-3-4 or something similar, it will be easier this way. also change or add second button to use ability into Q key, heavy attack to F key. atleast this is my binds, you should make your own binds for your own good when using mnk :D

Speedrunner moment

Some keybinds that helped me with keyboard and mouse elden ring, was rebinding Switch left hand weapon to the 1 key and switching the right hand weapon to the 2 key. I binded it this way because I usually swap weapons like this in apex by pressing 1 or 2 instead of scroll wheel since I binded my mouse wheel for movement like tap strafing or zipline superjumping. For Elden ring, you could also rebind scroll wheel upwards for cycling through spells and scroll wheel downward for cycling through items. If you have Side mouse buttons though you can cycle through spells with mouse 5 and cycle items with mouse 4 instead (This is because if you hold down the button that cycles through your spells or items, it resets and goes back to the first object in that list.). As for jumping, I binded it to shift, and dodge/dash/backstep/run to space bar. Hopefully some of these keybind suggestions you can use and personalize to your own liking, and as someone who's played lots of souls games I hope you enjoy Elden Ring!

When Elden Ring came out, I was not chronically online like I am now. I started as Samurai, followed the graces - ended up at Margit at around level 10.
