One of my DI’s shook my hand, then said, “You were in my platoon?”….I thought to myself, “Yeah Mother Fucker!” Flew under the radar for 12 weeks. Semper Fi 1981-85. Palms, Okinawa, Beirut.

For me, I got the biggest kick out of having conversations with all of my drill instructors after we were "dismissed".

I remember Basic Training like it was over 45 years ago. The first TI was there for three days, and it was hell. Then we got our regular TI, it was quite fun, and the food was great. I did 24 years, and it was a very good experience.

Did you notice that the platoon didn't enthusiastically greet their Drill Instructor after he dismissed them? I completed my basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana (Tigerland) in 1968. I hate my Drill Instructor today just as much as I did in 1968! ✌

This did NOT happen to me. Rather, my USAF training instructor told my entire flight to "get the fuck out of my dormitory" on our last day of basic training. Gladly! Leaving San Antonio was the happiest day of my entire life.

I was in the stands in oct 2000 and watched my two sons graduate. The Cole was attacked that weekend and was an ominous prelude to the bloody future my devil dogs were to face.

MCRD Parris Island, Novemer 10 1967. Platoon 3038. Guest of honor in the reviewing stand was Lt. Gen. L. B. "Chesty" Puller. I also remember it as the first time my father seemed to realize that I was a reasonably well-functioning human being. Semper Fi to my Marine brothers and sisters!

That one on the left is a SSgt now...

my father said when they passed the review stand and the drill instructioner said eyes right....he said you could hear the eye balls click.....he went on to Iwo and saw the colors go up over mount suribachi....he passed at 94...he was a United States Marine till the end

Was this a San Diego graduation? I thought there were four platoons that graduated at the same time.

My parents didn't bother coming to my army officers commissioning ceremony where I got my bars pinned on. My ROTC Lt Colonel pinned them on me. Guess that was not very important to my parents.

I had the honor of dismissing ONE platoon as a SDI in April of 1996

Now they are ready to go serve the wealthy bankers. All of our military serves the bankers. It's a shame. What do young people at this age know.

Like everything else in America, our military discipline and uniform standards have gone to pot. More than half of those Marines are showing no respect for the uniform, they can't even dress themselves properly or do a facing movement, (civilians won't understand). But I bet they are all thoroughly trained in gender inclusion and lesbian dance.

Got emotional all over again!

This was the second best moment I had going through Marine Corps bootcamp at Parris Island. The first and greatest moment was getting my EAGLE, GLOBE & ANCHOR.

And none of that “throw your cover in the air” nonsense :) *Marines*, by God!

The only thing I truly missed at my army graduation in 1976 was that I had no family there to greet me.. BUMMER 👎..but things got better when I got to Germany 🇺🇲✌️
