This is such a good film! The new Ripley series on Netflix definitely lives up to its standards; hard to decide which is better… Bravo to all the actors involved in this film.

The italian guy singing on stage is called Fiorello. He is one of the most famous and talented Italian commedians of all times. He recently participated in a podcast telling how the director randomly met him during the shootings and decided to involve him in the movie. He is still in good terms with Matt Damon.

Bro… where do you the bad decisions? In the first one kimi overtook him, verstappen tried to take his place back and push him on the track (Max’s fault). In the second one kimi went on the inside and max blocked him. I don’t know the rules that existed back then but that’s some dangerous driving. If you don’t agree you are deluded.

Tom was incredibly smart and adaptable, but he just never came from any money; perhaps we can infer that he was kicked from his family due to his homosexuality, or something else. While he was sociopathic, there's a part of me that thinks that he could've been a very powerful ally and friend to Dickie. Based on his little exposure we saw, he would've fit in very well with the elites and most likely able to form connections for business. He was shrewd with words and able to read people despite being slightly awkward. I think Dickie failed to see an opportunity due to his own arrogance.

0:27 - there's something so identifiable about Tom here. He hates his poverty, and it's totally understandable he looks up to Dickie. Handsome, rich, charismatic, fun, "cool" Dickie. I get how he wants to find his identity/purpose by being Dickie's friend, thus becoming "important" by association. If Dickie had let him, I believe Tom would've been a super loyal hang-on, just to be able to enter the elite world. When Dickie rejected him, it stung so much that he lashed out in rage. But we can see that he truly loved Dickie, in his own twisted way, by the way he held the corpse afterward. I feel sorry for Tom, and this was a fantabulose movie.

Yes, Ripley had a hunger to be near Dickie and to be Dickie.
If he "let him", let him what exactly? Dickie, like any sane person, refused Tom's advances in the bathroom, and Tom behaved like a leech, like a little girl, as Dickie said, always following him and not letting go. This is why I disliked this movie; he murders and then starts impersonating a guy and we are supposed to feel sympathy for him? The dude was a black hole destroying everything everywhere he went, he quite literally didn't do one thing right, he only destroyed lives for his selfish and sociopathic reasons. But then again, the writer of the book, Patricia Highsmith, was a very evil and twisted woman who loved the N*zis, and in her own words, loved evil and considered it greater than good. She was a pseudo-satanist and a mentally ill sociopath, no wonder she tried so hard to make Ripley look like the troubled misunderstood guy.

This film is great. But watching it is one of the most stressful experiences of my life, I felt like I wanted to explode the entire time.

Most people love this scene for the raw charisma and the great music, but there are more tiers to it than that. The song making fun of an Italian who desperately wants to escape his Italian background and appear American. The first question is if Dickie brings Tom up to sing because he suspects/believes Tom to be someone who is fake, and wants to send a message. The second question is if Dickie realises that the song is equally about himself who refuses to come home to the US and become who his family expects him to be - even down to the line in the song about someone else paying for the fake lifestyle - in the song the mother, in Dickie's case his father. The third question is if Tom realises either of those to questions even exist... My guesses are 1) Yes Dickie chooses this song intentionally to put Tom on the spot 2) Yes Dickie wouldn't be the Dickie we can't stop being mesmerised by if he hadn't figured that out and still didn't care 3) I think Tom is worried about being found out, but i think he fails to see that the song is equally about Dickie....
I think you are probably over-analysing. Marge (Gwyneth Paltrow’s character) says in the film that dickie only knows like six songs. If I had to dig deep I’d just assume it’s just a song that dickie knows because Italians may sing it to him when they see an American.
@@Pacino44 You do know that Dickie is a fictional character? The people who wrote the book/made the movie probably know more than six songs, and there are a lot of underlying themes that your only supposed to catch on repeated rewatching. I'd be very surprised if its a big coincidence that the iconic song from a movie about someone pretending to be someone they are not is also about someone pretending to be someone they are not... As to Dickie's motivations or lack thereof it's possible your right, but it's more fun if we assume Dickie has motives...

I doubt Dickie was thinking that deep, he seemed pretty aloof and carefree the whole movie. His carefree character is the reason why Tom was able to get that close to him in the first place, even with the constant red flags he was displaying
It’s a good analysis but I also don’t like when people look so deep into things , honestly. If someone enjoys it for what it is that’s good enough. Like wine, some people love wine, but they don’t need to know every detail about which region it comes from and year it is.
