    I really don't get all the hatred for the official timeline in the community. it's really not that complicated you've got the first game, aol is a sequel, lttp is a prequel, oot is a prequel's prequel, Majora's mask is a sequel to oot things get complicated with the handhelds, but it seems to be implied that the oracles and Link's awakening are all sequels to lttp (plus, there were no other timelines at the time, so where else could have nintendo intended these games to take place?) going back to the 3d games, tp is obviously a sequel to Majora, but the fact that it contradicts lttp confirms that the last time travel of the oot caused a timeline split then wind waker rolls around and it's clearly meant to follow the adult timeline of oot, but that can't be because it also contradicts lttp. how could this be? easy, they are two different continuities. NOT DIFFERENT TIMELINES, just diferent stories that share a common prequel, other series do it all the time and no one looses their heads about it after that everything is pretty self explanatory, except for four swords adventure being a sequel to twilight princess, that really just came out of nowhere. and I guess saying the hero of time died in the alternative continuity was kinda unnecessary too

    An interesting note about the Goddess Statue and the religion of Hyrule is that Link has a cross on his shield. Most people I think assumed that this was just the Christian cross, but that would imply that Jesus Christ is canon in Zelda. However, I think that the in-game explanation could be that this is a simplified depiction of the Goddess statue. The long part on the bottom being the body, the small part on top being the head, and the two parts going to either side being the wings.

    My main issue with the current timeline is the Zonai. It’s said that Raru is the *1st* king of Hyrule however, when Zelda travels back in time to when the kingdom was apparently ‘first established’ all the geography is the exact same as BoTW/ToTK…. Slight problem with that: those eras are supposed to take place at the END of the current timeline, not the beginning. Sooo what gives? Did the geography originally look like that after skyward sword than change a bunch throughout the games just to somehow revert back the original look? Was there multiple Hyrule’s that rose and fell that everyone seemed to just forget about? That’s not even including the present race’s in said time, the Rito exists despite there existence being only because the kingdom of Hyrule was flooded… but if thats true than in order to exist at the same time as Raru than that can only mean there was indeed a Hyrule before the Zonai came into play. I can’t wait to see how you solve this mess lol

      In the No DLC Interview Aonuma and Fujibayashi said it is actually a Refounding of Hyrule afte an old one got destroyed, thes still call it Hyrule instead of New Hyrule similar to Spirit Tracks. So it is more likely it is put at the very end of everything just like Botw. This has been overlooked by almost everyone and only got picked up by a few Zelda-Tubers like Monster Maze, probably because everyone else was too pissed that Aonuma said he is finished with the Wild Era now that they didnt care about reading further through the No DLC Interview. I know it is cheap but it is better than to fuck up the entire Lore by creating new lore.

    I hate to sound like an Angry Fan, but I think there's at least 2 big reasons why a lot of people have trouble disagreeing on timelines. 1) As you point out in this video, the localization wasn't 100% on-point in the earlier games. As far as pre-2000's translations go, I'd say that Zelda 1 actually got as much of the Japanese intent across as possible and I would only blame hardware limitations from keeping the text from translating perfectly (since Japanese doesn't need as many characters to convey a meaning and how that would leave less room in the code for other language translations that you see in other older games). That said, the fact that there were discrepancies at all probably led to things like the cartoon being more inspired by a Bruce Willis movie than the games and may have taken the series a while to outgrow, leading to lots of areas for people to get confused by and/or disagree on. 2) Nintendo seems to want to make Zelda as easily-accessible as Mario and Pokémon. Based on Eiji Aounuma saying that he sees the series as a bunch of unrelated legends, things like Smash Brothers trophies and Hyrule Historia rebranding ReDeads into clay monsters rather than reanimated dead and the Nintendo Timeline including a "Ganon Wins Ocarina" timeline (which doesn't have any representation in OoT but DOES sound cool to people just getting into the series, since I thought it was cool when I first heard about it), I think Nintendo almost regrets the amount of work they put into the earlier games' interconnectedness and would rather treat all of their games as chances to come up with new gameplay ideas and write interesting stories but treat them all as one-offs, even though that's not how the series started. The second reason has come up in conversations I've been in at least twice and the first reason has historically led to gamers thinking things like Shen Long is a character in Street Fighter. These may not be the only reasons that keep fans from agreeing on things, but I imagine they play a somewhat big role...Unless I totally misheard Aounuma and nobody at Nintendo ever treated Zelda as an anthology. Regardless, I'm looking forward to seeing how this all pans out and wish you luck piecing all of the stories and notes together and finding time to play the more narrative-heavy games and keeping track of all of those details!

    Good luck making your timeline! Although I haven't played Breath or Tears yet, they are fortunately, the last games to come up in your playthrough (or maybe Echoes of Wisdom, depending on when that releases), so I'll have no problem watching as all of this unfolds no matter how much time I take getting to the Switch games.

    I’ve referred to the place where 1986 Zelda lives as the Little Kingdom, while the King of the backstory ruled the United Kingdom of Hyrule which covered the entire land, including the eastern island/continent. The United Kingdom fragmented after the Prince became King, until only the Little Kingdom was left. I believe both the United Kingdom and the Little Kingdom are still known as Hyrule, as well as the region being Hyrule as well.

    • @nisus8
      @nisus8 8 днів тому

      Same here -- it's clear that the "united kingdom" of Hyrule (as seen in OoT, TP, and ALttP) eventually expanded northward into the regions seen in _The Adventure of Link_ (where the North Castle, the towns of Rauru, Saria, etc. are located), and when the collapse occurred, Ganon destroyed the southern kingdom, forcing the remaining population to flee to the northern kingdom, resulting in the abandoned wilderness that we see in LoZ and AoL.

    10:03 No it isn't. 9_9 In fact, there was some concept art that showed both maps connecting to each other and both were the same size. Zelda 2's map is north of Zelda 1's map. As for lore, I always figured Zelda's Lullaby from Ocarina of Time originated when Zelda I was put to sleep. Just as it was decreed that all females be named Zelda after her, the Royal Family's song was also probably created to honor her.

  • @Frisko555
    @Frisko555 9 днів тому

    Zelda 1986's map is geographically isolated from the rest of Hyrule and has a negligible population. This would make it much easier to conquer than the rest of Hyrule. Therefore, i suspect Ganon's control over the rest of Hyrule was heavily contested, if it existed at all. This would also give Ganon another reason to imprison Zelda, namely makign her a a hostage to prevent the Hylians from sending an army to attack his territory. -- I previously suggested Ganon might be from a kingdom north of TLoZ's map. But, that now seems unlikely. So, where does he come from? I believe he is most likely from the Eastern Continent since that isn't a part of Hyrule and he could easily sail an army from there to 86's map without alerting Hyrule's royal family to his activities until it's to late. In any case, i believe the Triforce of Power was located somewhere near Death Mountain even before Ganon stole it, possibly in Saria.

      @@ganonfan sure! Just remember to give me a shout-out if this theory makes sense. Keep in mind that I haven't played either BOTW/TOTK, and am only going on the info I have from other videos I've watched. OK, so most people think the timeline gets unified. Aonuma says they happen so far in the future that they are not connected to a timeline. So I believe there is another timeline split that happens within Ocarina of Time, but not in the same place as all the other ones do. Personally, I think an alternate universe is created when Link pulls the Master Sword and is hidden in the Sacred Realm. The only difference would be that while Link slept during those 7 years, the Sages had to change their plans and leave Link in a sleeping spell for much longer. This is why he wakes up 100 years later. It also explains why Calamity Ganon has taken over Hyrule Castle. (There are probably plot holes I am missing here, but hey, this is your project, you can probably do a better job of filling these gaps than I can!). Moreover, having this placement in the timeline would explain how Rito and Zora live in the same universe, along with Koroks. In the Adult Timeline, Rito evolved from Zora out of necessity, but in the new timeline (let's call it the Awakened Timeline), Rito would have just evolved some other way. Remember: when Link was put in the sleeping spell and Ganondorf took over, Lake Hylia dried out and Zora's Domain was frozen. It's very likely if left to that kind of environment for more than just 7 years, Rito could have evolved that way, too. Again, I know I am going out on a limb here, but this was the only scenario that made the possibility of Zora, Rito, and Koroks all existing together. It might also explain the Yiga clan as well. Let me know what you think. I have quite a few Zelda theories of my own but never had a place to share them!

      The games and manuals go against that. In A link to the past and its manual Ganon entered the Sacred realm by accident found the Triforce undefended and claimed the full Triforce without it splitting resulting in the Sealing war and in Ocarina of time Ganon entered the Sacred realm through careful planning made his way through the defenses around the Triforce and when he tried to claim it it split leaving him with only the Triforce of power the game then ends with only TWO endings the celebration of Ganon's defeat in Lon Lon ranch and Link with the Triforce of courage meeting Zelda for the first time again and no alternate ending exists where Link falls to Ganon. In Four swords adventures at the start they specifically state that Hyrule was at peace since the defeat of Vatii which is the events of Four swords how this impacts the timeline is self explanatory.

    I think that Hyrule castle is the same as the North Castle. As you said, the prince probably wouldn’t carry Zelda too far, and given the size of Zelda 1’s map, the location you have it at now would’ve been a decently far distance away. I imagine we only see a single room of the palace for the sake of gameplay.

    • @russellharrell2747
      @russellharrell2747 8 днів тому

      If the North Castle is the original royal castle where the King ruled from and the Prince and Sleeping Zelda lived, then it was abandoned by the royal family after the backstory, since Zelda, Impa and Link did not reside in the North Castle in this game: Impa took Link to the north castle, implying he had never been there and that Impa was not a resident there since it wasn’t quoted that she took him Back to the castle from where she left. The royal castle if the Little Kingdom is not depicted on the over world map, but realistically could be set anywhere on the western portion, or just beyond the map’s borders. I’m sure there’s more locations on the over world that just weren’t important to the game or story and we’re not depicted, such as more towns, random farms and communities, abandoned ruins (as the Old or United Kingdom shrank to become the Little Kingdom it’s possible multiple royal palaces were constructed and abandoned).

      Hyrule Castle from OoT, TP, and ALttP no longer exists by the timeframe of the original _Legend of Zelda_ and _The Adventure of Link_ , as it was very likely destroyed for good when Ganon conquered the southern kingdom and reduced southern Hyrule to a wilderness-state by the time of the events of TLoZ and AoL. A longtime fan-theory is that the Level 1 Underworld-dungeon (as well as the Level 4 dungeon) are the remnants of Hyrule Castle -- also, the location of the Graveyard in _The Legend of Zelda_ and _Zelda II_ *EXACTLY* corresponds to the location of Kakariko Village in _Zelda III_ and other games, interestingly.

    Nice work! Please keep it up. I've wanted to sit down and do a deep dive of the timeline for years. I think it's important to keep in mind that we are working with the "legend" of Zelda. These are stories. Stories that could be missing details, people, and places that aren't fully relevant to the narrative being told. I feel like too many of the fanbase look at every game as a complete snapshot of the world at that time. Exactly like you said with the castle. Just because it's not on the map, doesn't mean that it isn't there. I think the same train of thought can be true for everything. Races, dungeons, monsters, locations. The games are at a minimum only going to present information important to the narrative being told. The split timeline never made 100% sense to me. But in my head, I feel like there is a likelihood that the timeline is cyclical. A self revealing self fulfilling loop. It never seems to fit that the further back you look into the timeline, the more advanced the civilization and technology seems. Just a bit of my head cannon. :3 Keep up the good work!

    It's funny because when ALttP was released, you assume that _she_ ends up becoming the first Zelda at some point after the game. Also when LA comes out, it's still safe to assume that happens; in fact, the backstory of Zelda II could be happening _while_ Link is indisposed on Koholint. Then, still later, when OoT came out, you figure, nope... _she_ must be Zelda the First, and all the princesses are named after her. Anyhow, it keeps sliding backwards, like a reverse floating timeline, until SS where the girl named Zelda isn't even a princess. Also there's the discrepancy where they're using the full Triforce during a time where the Triforce of Courage is supposed to be hidden. Then, after _all that_ they offer the "explanation" that she wasn't actually Zelda I, and that they've just been naming all princesses Zelda forever for no reason. Also Zelda II's backstory happens like immediately before Zelda I (but well after ALttP), maybe 100 years before or less, judging by the official timeline. In any case... I just wanted to point out, I meant "you" as in "the entire Zelda fanbase at the time," in which I include myself... I'm not calling out _you_ specifically.

      @ganonfan You'll also be visiting that track in its original context soon enough. The team behind that game took full advantage of the story being linear and the dungeons being sequential. And the theme doesn't simply match the tone of the dungeon itself but also the emotional state Link is in from the revelation that hits right before he hits that dungeon... It also really hits different if you play A Link to the Past beforehand. Understand that the Link, from A Link to the Past, is the same Link from Link's Awakening. That has been stated in no uncertain terms by the team leads of both games. This part of Link's Awakening is definitely a mood in its own right, but in the context of Link's Awakening being a sequel A Link to the Past, this part conveys a very real sense that Link is fighting to keep his sanity and not doing so well on that front. But I digress.

  • @PJCVita92
    @PJCVita92 10 днів тому

    Interesting how with the second game, right off the bat, we already have our first problem. Who can use the Triforce! Both versions of the A Link to the Past lore, further backed later games, confirm that the power of the Triforce can in fact be misused for personal gain. That's literally the whole point of keeping it out of the hands of evil! But Zelda II's lore denies this fact before it even became a thing. It's no wonder why not only does Miyamoto despise this game with a passion but Nintendo has zero interest in remaking the game period. And since this game is tied to the first game, that's why Nintendo won't remake that too. The way I see it, already, you've completed the first timeline! The first two games should not have been canon to all the other games because in the world of those two games, Triforce can not be used by impure folk, yet villains seek it. To me, that sounds like the first two games are really just a fable told in Hyrule and not actual events. With A Link to the Past being the actual true first Zelda game to present actual events taking place in Hyrule. We hear about a war for Triforce known as the Sealing War in ALttP's backstory and that the Dark World exists because of Ganon's use of Triforce. Yes, a corrupt individual used the Triforce, implying that ALttP takes place in Hyrule's actual reality. While Zelda 1 and 2 are mere stories told to inspire confidence in people with the idea that Good always wins and Evil always loses in the end. Sort of like the Real Life fairy tales we know that are like that. That said, this makes A Link to the Past the first reboot, not Ocarina of Time. Ocarina of Time would reboot the timeline again by preventing A Link to the Past from happening. And from there, the timeline continues to become more and more of the mess that it is today. Where have the sequel to the one canonical ending of OoT in Majora's Mask, which doesn't even take place in Hyrule, but instead a completely different world known as Termina. Wind Waker takes place after the alternate ending of OoT where Link beat Ganon that Zelda then prevented by sending Link back to create the Child Timeline. And Twilight Princess is first actual continuity after the canon ending of Ocarina of Time (the one we actually see happen). And the timeline just gets more and more complicated from there as later we see that the original A Link to the Past timeline is actually now another alternate ending timeline where Link lost in OoT. I understand that this is about rebuilding the timeline following each game as they came out. I just wanted to share my feelings towards the contradicting idea of the Triforce basically being the Master Sword at this point of canon. [sigh] It stuff like this is why retcons are always inevitable. Especially when the creators just make stuff up as they go. [sigh]😞

      The triforce can't be misused, because it scatters if someone with an imbalanced heart ever touches it. We've never seen someone with an impure heart retouch the triforce. Ganon technically doesn't have the triforce in aLttP, it's still in the sacred realm. We only know Ganon touched it and transformed and corrupted the sacred realm into the dark world, but all of this happens in the adult timeline, too.

    • @PJCVita92
      @PJCVita92 10 днів тому

      @@SonicXisCanon Yeah, that flat out makes absolutely no sense whatsoever! Why would any corrupt, impure, or imperfect individual ever want to seek something they can not even use? Also, Link has been shown to have dark thoughts as he literally canonically tells Nabooru in OoT that he hates Ganondorf. And SS Link literally hated both Demise and Ghirahim, yet he was able to use the Triforce. Zelda II's lore states that you have to be a perfect saint in order to use Triforce period. This completely goes against literally EVERYTHING established in ALL of the games that came after! And not only that, but also the reality of things altogether as literally NOBODY is perfect! Making using the Triforce absolutely IMPOSSIBLE, even for Zelda herself! No soul with emotions can ever be pure good. Sin is inevitable in everyone! Even in the most kindest and most selfless of individuals still commit sin. Even if they don't even know it! That's why the concepts of forgiveness, remorse, resentment, and redemption exist. To help balance out the good from the bad or the bad from good or whatever. That's why I now believe that Zelda 1 and 2 are, in the fictional world of Zelda, what the myth and human interpretation of the bible stories are in real life. It's plausible those even may have actually happened in Hyrule history canonically. But the original take on them feels too exaggerated to be within reality of Hyrule. It is possible that ALttP may also fit in to that myth canon too because ALttP's interpretation seems to be that Ganondorf became Ganon due to the Triforce's rejection. However, we know this to be false because Ganon did in fact get his wish, though perverted. He became powerful and he created the Dark World around the Sacred Realm. A Link to the Past was only the third game released. Which explains why A Link Between Worlds exists the way it does as to sort correct the issues more than the GBA port did. The Dark World became a whole new world known as Lorule. We know this because Lorule looks too identical and too many of the same names to not be the current canonical version of the Dark World. And finally, the biggest pieces of evidence to prove that Triforce can in fact be used for whatever person obtains it wants comes from Wind Waker and Skyward Sword. In WW, the King wished for the destruction of Hyrule after Ganondorf wished for the return of Hyrule for him to rule. Both of these actually came true. Old Hyrule was wiped out, and a New Hyrule was founded, just without Ganondorf to rule it. And SS literally states that anyone who possesses the Triforce can have their wish granted. Not to mention the fact that the fact that the Triforce can actually be misused is literally the whole point of keeping out of the wrong hands and with any divine power. I'm beginning to understand why Nintendo doesn't like talking about the Triforce anymore. While they still feature the Master Sword because, at least the sword doesn't require the wielder to be perfect. They just need to be good.

      @@darkdagger5237 Did you watch the Main Lore section of the video? It's stated that, at the moment of Zelda II's release, the Triforce was like a Super Master Sword where realistically, no mortal should ever be able to use it because no mortal is perfect like the Triforce requires. The Zelda canon back then was apparently more whack than we ever thought according to the Japanese version. The English version tried simplify some aspects for us in the English speaking regions to understand it better. But yeah, that explains the soft reboots we got every game set in Hyrule or any world where Hyrule or land of Hylia exists that came after. OoT, WW, TP, SS, ALBW, BotW, even TotK, and now even EoW are all soft reboots. This is all because of Nintendo's numerous failed attempts to explain a golden triangle. That's literally why the Triforce itself became less and less relevant with each game. Or haven't you noticed? And doesn't exactly help that they were literally making things up as they go. Had they planned ahead, thought of the possibilities more, or given the overall lore more thought, they probably could've avoided this mess. It's no wonder why Nintendo doesn't like revisiting anything that came before ALttP that much. The series just so young and was barely anything of what it is today when it comes to story and lore. So of that lore was so heavily exaggerated, unrealistic, and convoluted back then. I mean the Oracle games were even almost a reimagining of the NES games. And now we have EoW fulfilling that role potentially.
