The ship agent is the person (company) who represents the ship/shipowner at the port where shipowner’s ship has called (for loading, discharging or other business/reasons). In order a ship shipowner or manager of a ship appoint a ship agent, he will send an email to him asking the amount of the ship’s port expenses (port dues, agency fees etc.) which the ship will have to pay during her stay at the port of call.
