Secret paradise in Indonesia
The Banda Islands are an amazing place to freedive, scuba dive and learn about the history of nutmeg and the spice trade.
We stayed at The Nutmeg Tree (www.divebanda.info). Reza, the owner, was very responsive and organized everything for us: from airport pickup in Ambon to the ferry to the islands. Due to the pandemic, there weren’t too many tourists and the fast ferries weren’t running, so we had to take a slow 14 hour ferry. We nevertheless got our own private “first class” cabin without even saying anything. Much appreciated during those early & confusing days of the pandemic.
The Lodge staff were very accommodating, as were the dive instructors. We were able to freely design our schedule to get a (safe) mix of scuba diving and freediving. I also highly recommend taking the time out of the water to visit the nutmeg plantations and hike up the volcano Gunung Api (warning: not an easy hike).
Note: This was shot in March 2020. We had to cut our trip short due to the pandemic, but still managed to have an amazing week!

Freediving in the Swiss river Maggia

Join me freediving in the crystal clear waters of the Maggia river, in Ticino, the italian part of Switzerland. We went to the swimming spot Ponte Brolla, just a short drive from Locarno. Swim a bit into the gorge to escape the crowds and enjoy a calm dive observing the beautiful underwater smooth stone landscape. The water is quite cold (13° C in spring), so an open cell wetsuit is a must (unl...

    All those requirements in just 3 days? That's way too much pressure. SSI is insane... do they realize this does not work for every one? I know a friend who did Aida 2 and he also complained about the short time of the course. He did get the license in the time given but the pressure was so big and the contractions were so bad he never did any freediving afterwards.

    • @pattravels
      @pattravels 3 роки тому

      You certainly don’t need to do all that in 3 days! We had limited holiday time so that’s why we did it like that... and we were already pretty confident we would make it when we signed up for it. You can (and probably should) take more time. I know people who did it in several weeks. Sorry about your friend... I hope he can get back into freediving at a more relaxed pace.

      @pattravels 4 роки тому

      Nopehahalolwut why terrible?

    • @MrNopehaha
      @MrNopehaha 4 роки тому

      I don't mean like terrible as in bad, more like you lack finesse: Your technique for cutting the avocado is found wanting, stab the knife into the avo and then flatten the pitch of the knife length wise so it's parallel with the avo, then turn the avocado 360º for a clean and fast cut, then take a spoon and scoop out the avo, place the avo face down on your cutting board and make your slices (much better than your iffy/clumsy technique), bread too big? shove it in the broiler for a nice crunchy toast all the way around (comes out even better than the toaster), egg... add more oil, make sure the oil is very hot, egg down on pan, salt and pepper on top, then fan oil over top of egg to help it cook the top (I know it's over-easy), also when the edges of the egg are super crisp, it adds to the taste, but you can only accomplish this if your oil is very hot when you place the egg on the pan so the edges can be crispy while keeping the egg slightly under-cooked for sunny side up (try this, you will definitely like it). Make sure there's a quarter inch of oil in the pan, so use a smaller pan (preferably cast iron, it gives the egg a better taste). Watching you perform is like watching an 10yr old do this for the first time, that's what I meant by terrible technique, but the idea of the dish is very appealing, I used to scoff at the idea of avocado toast as a WOKE, MILLENIAL thing, but after seeing the finished product, I will try this myself with my own avocados in my yard.
