Classic because it's more comfortable. I once tried a scalloped fretboard, and the edges of the frets hit the tips of my fingers when sliding. Maybe it was just that guitar, but every fret felt like a sharp edge that always hit.

People should understand the difference between 'sound' and 'music'. Sound comes out of an instrument, it becomes music when only when someone plays it artfully. Clapton, Page, Harrison, Gibbons, Townshend, Felder, Walsh have all played both and many other types. They sound good on anything they've laid their hands upon.

Hate to say it, but if I am at an example of a normal guitar player, what matters most is that my first guitar was a Les Paul copy, meaning I spent my life wanting to own a real one. That's what decided it for me. Absolutely no logic involved but Les Paul all the way.
