I Turned the Pulsar-23 into a Theramin | Pulsar-23 & Hologram Microcosm Trippy Ambient Performance
Переглядів 349Рік тому
The Pulsar-23 is typically associated with the sounds of industrial music, but I wanted to see if it could also be something beautiful. If you want to get similar sounds, lengthen the attacks and output ONLY from the stereo reverb. Use the Shaos module at a very slow tempo for triggers and to modulate various parameters. An attenuated LFO is great for the haunting tremolos. That's enough to get...

Exploring the Soma Enner (with a ghost Subharmonicon)

The Somasynth's Enner is one of the most interactive, gestural instruments I've played in a long time. No outboard effects, every sound is output entirely from the Enner. If you like behind the scenes vids, tips, and tricks-especially for Soma and Moo...

Kudos for sharing about your condition so openly. I don’t have tremors, but I got the knobs for my Subharmonicon, DFAM, and Mavis (x2). The larger radius makes fine adjustments easier.
It is not negative...i understand you. I wanted to buy it too but after seeing thousands of videos with it i made a conclusion. Everyone sounded kind of the "same". To speak the truth it is an expensive pedal and i cannot afford a "mistake" when buying something.
Do u have ginormous hands or is the pulsar 23 smaller than I thought?
@@TwinCitiesOxygen 😂 maybe both I guess? It’s big. Wide angle overhead probably distorts some.
If I had one I'd seriously regret selling it
Thanks. This is validating. I love the Cosmos, but I find myself fighting with it as often as I find myself collaborating with it. I've made great music with it, but it REALLY wants minimal inputs and lots of sonic space. I got it for my harp, for which it's great, but it's eating up studio space for my synths. If I had endless space, time, and money, I would love it.
@@ModelOfAModernMajor you described that perfectly for me. If I had resources and space, I would absolutely want to “have it around” for occasional exploration. And I imagine it does well with a harp, would love to hear some of it if you’re willing to share!
I think I'll never get rid of my cosmos, it's too important for my mind body and soul.
NGL having a similar experience with obne dark light spent hours and hours researching what reverb I wanted, thought it would be perfect....and well it's not that it's a bad reverb it's actually beautiful sounding. But it just doesn't work for me. Can't really put my finger on it. For whatever reason the sound doesn't fit and that's all that matters....what sounds good to you
I like the stuff you made with the Cosmos, especially together with Pulsar and Subharmonicon... 😀 but I understand your reasoning behind selling it...
Thank you! And that was such a big part of the struggle-because it was able to create fantastic end results-closer to my goal than the Microcosm in this instance. Who knows, maybe it will make its way back into my studio as my own musical practice evolves. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Really appreciate your experience and perspective.
Hmmm, I'm unsure why UA-cam recommended this to me but I'm glad it did, this was interesting. It sounds like you've thought this through and that it just doesn't fit well with your other gear.
Or maybe even fits ok with the gear, but just not my creative practice ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Thanks for watching! Curious what video you were watching when UA-cam recommended it?
@@0VRLNDR It was there on the front page of UA-cam. I didn't even have to scroll down for it. I get two rows of six videos horizontally and then a stack of shorts below those and your video was on row two of the six, second from the left if I remember correctly. It was puzzling and looked different so I watched it. I'm glad I did. Cheers.
@@OTOss8 cool, thanks for the info. Still figuring out the algorithm while trying to build this channel, so I appreciate it.
@@0VRLNDR No problem man. Thanks for the cool video.
Yes, exactly, the instrument must "fit" the musician. If something doesn't work for you, then you won't be using it.
That Hydrasynth beat was very cool. Great variety with all the combos. I love that you do great demos to justify getting rid of something. I like the institutional green on your ex-Cosmos, good choice. Good on you for moving on. Thanks.
My next Soma instrument will have to be in that same color 😅 Thanks for watching! 🙏
Great video. Stimming (my favourite producer) uses this device very well, it is a really beautiful piece of gear you can search "Stimming - Live Studio Session - Piano Amoll Mayhem" if you'd like to hear :) You have an awesome setup man!
Great video! I do think this thing is pretty nifty, but also at the same time, I haven't had a chance to mess around with one
Do you have a local shop that will let you try it out, I've found that really helpful sometimes. And thanks for watching!
I had quite a similar experience with the Cosmos. Ultimately sold it as well.
Curious if you tried the other firmwares?
@@0VRLNDR yes, I tried all three
@@ottsch Same-obviously I did not try the linked/quadraphonic swarm that requires two. Might be the most interesting but also even more niche, for someone doing live experimental music in quad.
very nicely done, sir. bravo!!
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for subscribing!
I like Soma stuff, especially my Cosmos. But the Lyra 8 sounds crap!!!
😂 Cosmos is a ton of fun!
sounds dope, wish you'd shown more of what was going on in the patch bay though
Only thing patched is the clock actually! Here's patch diagrams for this patch for both synths: instagram.com/p/C-k-cVQOQAF/
You can open the gate with the CV gate input. Much more useful and full control. With some imaginative settings you can 'stimulate' the lyra to come to life with a great deal of precision via the CV Gate input. The lyra IS very much controllable from another synth with a CV gate output .
A W E S O M E !🔥
Do you know where they make it and if its an ethical production? thank you
Objectively, Hydrasynths are labeled as being designed, engineered, and made in China. I have no insight into who ASM’s manufacturing partners are nor their employment practices. I’d suggest reaching out to ASM directly for more specific answers to see if it’s aligned with your preferences.
@@0VRLNDR oh that's cool , like original work as oppose to mass produced approach. i hope I can go find a demo to try or borrow , what is it comparable to?
@@notaspectator Sarah Belle Reid has some great videos and demo of the Hydrasynth family, here's one: ua-cam.com/video/uCNYT0O54Zc/v-deo.html
Thank you. This has unlocked something I had been wanting to do for a while using my Touché to open the gate of a nicely tuned Lyra chord.
Which Key Lab is mapped for Pigments please. Will Keylab Essential 88 do.
All of the KeyLabs have default mappings for Pigments, so the Essential 88 would work great.
Sounds awful to honest
He explains that in another comment. It's @ refurbished sound from an external mic. Because he did forgot to press "record" in DAW ) Shit happens sometimes.
so op to the left is the midi to cv thingy right? but there is no actul midi CC on this thing right?
The MIDI to CV converter lets you control arbitrary patching, but it also has a MIDI IN on the back panel, and a "learn" button on many modules, that will remember the channel number, key, or CC, even after powering off. The MIDI implementation on the Pulsar-23 is really well thought out.
A BIG thank you for this! I just want to play, I hate having to do a ton of setup, so these instructions and files were much appreciated! And I found the Ribbon TX was off, why is that standard? Weird.. but now that works in Pigments as well :)
So happy you found it useful! 🙌
Awesome! I'm going to try this out with my new Hydrasynth Explorer! Thanks for the leg work!!! Sub'd!
Thank you, I'm glad it was helpful!
Really useful. Thank you.
Very informative, can't help but thinking that Vlad missed a trick with this cv/gate control though.
Do you know if on the hydrasynth full version do the 8 encoders with led rings reflect your vst knob positions and also when you change presets?
I don't have one to verify, but typically in similar cases, it's dependent on the value range you assign on the VST. In other words, if both the VST and the physical knob allow values of 0-127, then in most cases the knob and VST knob indicators will align. But if you set the effective range of the VST knob to, say, 50-100, then they likely will not align *unless* you also can assign that same value range to your physical controller.

@@0VRLNDR that seems to be my issue I think... Do you know of any alternatives?
@@iamYork_ I've been using the MIO XC adapter with great success: bit.ly/3Bb6UdC
Hi there! May I ask what kind of cable are you using? 3.5 to 6.3 mono, or is there any specific recommendations? Thanks!
Yep just a 3.5mm to 1/4” TS cable. Or you can use an adapter at one end if you only have one type of cable.
Hi 0VRLNDR, a mapping for V Collection 9 would be great…. Is it easy to do?
Hi Ailwyn, I've thought about it, but you'd really need a separate mapping for each synth, since their interfaces are all very distinct. Are there any that you use more frequently than the other? Thanks!
Can the desktop control vsts as well ?? Thanks awesome and informative videos new subscriber 🙌🏽👍🏽
Yes indeed! The main difference is that aftertouch isn't available on the Desktop. And thanks for the sub!

I haven't used Diva, but I've considered Serum for sure. Pigments has largely replaced my use of Serum, but I agree it would be nice to have a mapping to a similarly versatile free VST. Thanks for the feedback!
Lyra 8 is a death machine! More like Vlad Drac! Sounds like an old worn down pump Reed organ filled with cobwebs and maggots.
Wowwww
