I freaking love that whole section starting at 8:56. I cannot possibly sit still when i hear this. I have to groove 😎 Also love how it starts not much transition or anything just straight in. Mike Oldfield just saying ok enough of that now we're moving onto something cool 😆. I didn't express perfectly but you guys get the message 😎
Lost my best pal when he was 23. Used to travel up to the Highlands with my brother and a couple of others, listening to Tubular Bells, Ommadawn, The Moody Blues etc. The day he died I was sat at home, listening to Ommadawn, and the part on here, (26.25) reduced me to tears. Sat in the dark, I realised the great adventures would never be the same again. The power of Mike's compositions touches one's soul.
I've always thought of this work as revisionist classical, as befits Mike's musical realms. In four movements. The voice of Maddy Prior is truly amazing.....it crowns the work.
Véritable Chef d'Oeuvre de musiQue contemporaine alliant médiévale/troubadour/elfique... Sublime ! J'écoute depuis + de 40 ans et Je ne m'en lasse pas ! MagnifiQue !
Through the fish-eyed lens of tear stained eyes I can barely define the shape of this moment in time - The Final Cut lyrocs Pink Floyd.😢 Tell them to stay away. Trump et al will be thrown effectively into a wood chipper with that level of incoherence to over 74 years of facts. How many GOP lawmakers Hugh Hewitt of the dead fish-eyes are now fully signed up to fascism?
Im so glad i returned to Oldfield after years - Tubular Bells was my first experience with progressive, not gonna lie - im not disappointed in his first albums even now, after i discovered Crimson King, Yes or Pink Floyd. Still, that's a solid prog, guitar tone is surreal and unique af.
When mike was making this album at througham in Gloucestershire which was the last one he made there due low flying aircraft making too much noise which didn't help recording music in his studio and he threw out loads of material on this album because he wasn't satisfied with it
My favorite piece of music of all time. I bought the boxed Mike Oldfield set in 1983 and only played it once. (I recorded it to play thousands of times though). I still have the collection 😊. It is epic. Some of his other works come close, but nothing surpasses Ommadawn. I never tire of it. ❤😊 I
Mike Oldfield .
Ommadawn and Return to Ommadawn are my two favourites. Very similar, but so very different 😊
Mike Oldfield did the music for "The Killing Fields" featuring the instrumental ending "Etude"

Angelic level energizing. Thanks so much.
Die Musik von Mike Oldfield ist unsterblich. Einer der größten Künstler unserer Zeit.

Marvelous!!!
Unforgettable. Perfect beautiful music.
Listening to this is like tripping without drugs.

Tubular Bells was my favourite album of his, but now this is a very close contender. 🥰

Most prized and spiritual of albums . A true voyage into wonder.
Eines der besten Alben überhaupt
Lovely comment from maval4537 and he was exactly the same age as me.

I was 10y old in 80ies..Smokie-Fan - this album and Platinum changed my live
Hey, I discovered Mike Oldfield's music in 1974 with Tubular Bells when I was 15 years old. Then Ommadawn in 1975. Still amazing music today.
I've always thought of this work as revisionist classical, as befits Mike's musical realms. In four movements. The voice of Maddy Prior is truly amazing.....it crowns the work.
Amazing still in 2024 🙏🩷

Why have I not heard this till now now?
Masterclass of music. Beauty in that it is not everyone's cup of tea. When ye listen. Wow 😊
Unaplogetic Prog fan.Zep,Floyd, early Genesis, Elp,SAHB,love it all, even some if the more cerebral punk!

Hmm, ripping off the theme from Midnight Cowboy a bit there aren't you Mike?
Strong Irish influence .Amadan is Gaelic for “fool”. Ag ol means drinking .❤
That's an opinion. But the word Ommadawn is not Irish, I believe.
18:50 for example - Ryuichi Sakamoto was also impressed.

I came here after someone tried to get me to listen to Taylor Swift and I needed to cleanse my mind with real music :)
Did it work?
Magnifico
Listen to Ommadawn and Return to Ommadawn back to back and nobody can argue that Return to Ommadawn isn't the greater of the two.
Thank you 🎉
This music somehow feels so pure and innocent. Like childhood. It’s as lovely now as it was all those years ago. Thanks Mike!
Even after all these years I still love 19:08.
Ommadawn got me into Mike Oldfield still have the very Cassette
Love this, his best, Wonder if it influenced Kate Bush's Aerial. Think it might
UNICO🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

When it gets to his pants it goes all too much
11:58 I recently discovered this album last year, this part instantly transports me to another world every time I hear it 🫠
His only Decent Album.
Having midroll ads in the achingly beautiful acoustic at 25m is a crime against humanity
I use Brave Browser. I get no ads at all.
