Just finished watching this one. Ending was perfect because he didnt deserve her. She loved him truly and he also loved her but not more than power and revenge so if he had to choose one then he would've chosen power so i guess its the most suitable ending and the game of power is ruthless and cruel that made him cruel. And i really couldn't understand why everyone was saying he was soft hearted . If he had that much wit and wisdom then he would've judged wisely but he wanted power more than anything else
i agree the ending seems to be most appropriate. but i disagree that he would have chosen power over her. in fact the only way he could have her was to have power because as the crown princess she was only going to marry the crown prince. he didnt want the title of crown prince until she came into the picture. and it is hinted at in another scene where he is asked if he would put his family and the empire in danger for her, the answer is yes because he did. He protected her more than anyone including himself. And as far as he was concerned he didnt have to make that choice because a choice didnt exist really. he was going to be the emperor and have her too. but in the end she made the choice to bring relief to herself, save lives, including his while also punishing him - by removing herself. many of these details are in the drama written in between the lines.
