My First Tarpon Encounter
Guys, tarpon are really cool. This was on a lil trip down to the Florida Keys, and I had literally 0 idea of what I was doing, but got lucky enough to jump one of these guys. The fly was a white/tan seaducer, on an 8-wt rod.

Merry crisis!
Can't believe you're already ice fishing! 😮
I know!!! I love it! 😍
Ice fishing on Friday the 13th? Questionable choices.
This is a very good point, and perhaps why I was the only one there!
Preferred hook sizes?
Good question! I generally don't like to go smaller than a 12, maybe 14, just to keep the really tiny ones off. Most of my bluegill flies are in the size 12 to 8 range, with the #8s being the biggest beetles and some small hopper flies. The nymphs and damsels I tie on size 12 and 10 hooks. Hope that helps!
WHY do you think you need music in your video????? Very Disturbing!!!!!!!!
Hey Gene! There's a button that allows you to mute the video if the music isn't to your taste. Thanks for watching!
kids these days!
Seriously! Such drama!
Congrats. Sometimes just getting them to eat is a miracle. Sometimes you drop it in front of them and they slurp it. They consume you the more you chase them. Tight lines………
Thank you, it was a fantastic experience!
I think a tarpon warrants the use of more fun language.
HECK
Just guessing here: Bluestriped Grunt (Haemulon sciurus). The stripes are horizontal versus the bluegill's vertical stripes.
Pretty sure it's a bluegill that migrated south for the summer. (Or a pinfish)
Idk about you but that blue gill seems to extra not blue gill ish that could just be me though
Right? Maybe it's sick
Closer to cats than dogs!
It's true!
So dramatic!
They're having big emotions!
I lived in NE for four years. The wind never stopped.
Seriously! My casting was bad tonight because there was no wind to correct for 😂
Nice fish 🙂
Thanks, I caught it myself 😌
You obviously teleported to an alternate dimension.
I like it here! 😂

Sums up Spring in Nebraska perfectly
Don't it though?
What kind of fish is that?
That's a golden shiner! Usually used as bait for big bass
Popper, I can't use anything else🎉
I do love a popper! It didn't make my list because I am horrible at getting hookups with them, but they are super fun to fish.
@LaegreidOutdoors wait till you feel the weight of the fish, then set your hook. It's easy to say hard to do when you're excited 😊
Just recast with him as new bait…you won!
😂 hard to cast a whole bluegill on the fly rod!
@@LaegreidOutdoors you not wrong…you’re gonna have to swing it out by hand and pray it doesn’t fall off 🥹🤣
O yea, yesterday i was fishing for bait in my creek, and some of the minows were grabbing bait half their size was surprising
The aggression of these guys is always impressive!
@LaegreidOutdoors man update I used the big creek chubs and caught a 35-inch channel catfish definitely the largest catfish I ever caught in a long time
@@owenhalverson9119 heck yeah, dude!

Bloo gilz
Those are nice looking flies!
Thank you 😚
Come out west!
I'm gonna!
That’s rad, I want to do some bass and bluegill fly fishing soon. I’ve only gone out for trout
It's a ton of fun! Bluegill are generally less picky, and bass explosions on topwater are hard to beat!
Hungry!!
Chonk!
Nice!!

Oh, you wanna take pot shots at my banana cage, BILBO?
Sirens going off... Better run outside to see what's up. #nebraskathings

OMG! 😯😯
Hot color, looks good.
Thanks! It ain't fancy, but it'll catch fish!
🫡 @Gentlemen
Do you mind if I ask what you were throwing that day?
You bet! I had to kind of run through the whole box that day before I found out what they wanted; got a few on a puget bug, the rest were on an olive bead-headed stonefly nymph, I think a size 12 or 14. The biggest trick was finding the schools, once you found a pod they were pretty hungry.
Get er done
Perttty country
Grew up in North Platte
That's adorable!
NO U!
That’ll feed a family of .5!
HA! Maybe as a snack
That's a keeper
A few more like that and I could make a fish stick!
@@LaegreidOutdoors more like a fish nugget. I see you're a corn husker can you tell me where you caught it?
@@Doctoranthetardisyeah! That was CenturyLink lake at Mahoney SP. Just a little thing, pretty heavily pressured, but it's pretty!
Love it!!!
