The Best BBQ in Kansas City | Harp Barbecue
Located in Raytown, Missouri, Harp Barbecue forever changed the culinary landscape of Kansas City. Tyler Harp's journey from weekly pop-up to national attention hasn't changed his primary focus, serving the best barbecue in KC.

Family is from Lake Lotawana, did the BBQ in Raytown. The BBQ was good but a bit pricey. Sides were trash. He said F Raytown and went to Kansas. I’ll never go out there. Should have stayed in Missouri.
Actually, Joe's KC BBQ has been solidly rated in most top 10 lists, I've never seen it on any lists or any of the locals recommendations......if it was that good, people would be talking about it. They're not...
Never heard of this place. Its not even open any longer.
He moved the restaurant to Overland Park, Kansas.
Overrated......
I like Harps meat, it's delicious. I don't like the sauce or their sides. It is very expensive. Won't go again because they are moving to Johnson county.
IDC what anyone says. It’s pretty dam hard to beat Gates Burnt ends and Slaps Brisket street tacos on Tuesdays ( Only) I’ll take those 2 things over any BBQ anywhere. Thats just My opinion.
Best BBQ in KC can be found in many back yards. So many of us have tried and tried and tried again, that we have perfected the craft.
When I watch bbq videos I’m always biased if it’s not Kansas City bbq .
I live in KC and I’ve never heard of Harp’s BBQ
Same
@@crankskinatra6038 y'all need to get out of the house then. Definitely worth getting
@@zachhowdeshell2043 it’s pretty far from where I live now
Never heard of them only gates LCs Auther Bryant’s and smoke house just sayin 😂

I dont drive to Raytown for anything, except Harp barbeque! Please open a place in the northland.
Northland is turning into Raytown real fast
Too expensive. Ribs were horrible. Tried it like 3 times. One good experience getting only brisket and burnt ends and some sides..$55 I’m good
Why does he park in a handicap spot?
Wow an amazing video and edit! Subscribed!
Kansas City Magazine voted the #1 BBQ in KC features Tennessee pork and central Texas brisket. I don’t think they get it.
I’ve never had good brisket in KC. Ever. From any of those shown on the intro. KC is ribs country.
KC is Burnt Ends country. Tennessee is Ribs country. For good brisket, try Q39, Char bar, or SLAP’s (Jack’s Stack is an honorable mention).
@@bruceayers8384 I'll second Q39. Ironically if you want good brisket in KC you have to go with Texas style. Blasphemy, I know, but Texas does beef well. KC is king of pork. Ribs and pulled pork made in KC with a good molasses based sauce is fire. Good brisket doesn't need sauce. Dry rub alone to get that good char on the outside with a good smoke ring on the inside.
@@nimbylive KC is known for their Burnt Ends. The video claims Harp BBQ is the best in KC, as noted in the title. I disagree. If the title claimed Harp BBQ has “The Best Texas style BBQ in KC,” that’d be a different argument. However, it seems people (trolls) want to make this a “Texas vs KC BBQ” argument which is “apples vs oranges.”
@@bruceayers8384 I have never been to Harps so I couldn't say if it's good or bad either. The OG post talked about wanting good brisket. I recommend Q39 as their brisket is amazing. However, it is Texas style. Apples and oranges maybe, but I feel like more people like apples in this analogy so that is fine. not trolling, just offering good brisket.
@@nimbylive Q39 is “competition” style. The only similarity to Texas style BBQ brisket is the thick cut and is served dry. It’s smoked in a commercial smoker and not a pit. The sauces are KC style too. So, the irony, here, is people looking for Texas style BBQ brisket in KC, where the city has established its own spot amongst those in the national BBQ arena. I won’t knock Texas but when the video we’re commenting on is talking about the best BBQ in KC and people ignore it to comment about “who has the best Texas style BBQ brisket” is not helpful. One thing is certain, while there are places in KC that serve excellent pulled pork and spare ribs, Joe’s comes to mind, Arthur Bryant’s put KC on the map with Burnt Ends. Let’s be clear. It’s in the history books and most restaurants in KC have them on their menus, I don’t know if other regional restaurants do? According to www.kcends.com LC’s BBQ are number 1. Anyway, Memphis has the best ribs and No Carolina has the best pulled pork. All styles are different and not comparable. Lastly, if anyone’s still hung up on Texas style BBQ brisket being the best argument, great, go to Texas and report back. However, if you want to discuss the best BBQ place in KC, don’t look for it here either, the Texas Brisket fanatics have hijacked the comment section. 🙄
Harp is outstanding.
HARP is fire! Great sides, brisket is top notch thick and juicy great crust, and their turkey is amazing as well
Slaps ftw, never heard of this place
Literally never heard of it and I’m a local
@@crankskinatra6038 Slaps is amazing!
@@crankskinatra6038 Glad we could help
I clicked because I thought it was Norm MacDonald in the thumbnail
It was good but expensive for the size sandwich and they don’t have fries.
I live in KCMO and have never heard of this place…. “The best” yeah okay…
Same
A 39 is best in KC
Drowning brisket in sauce is like putting sauce on a steak. Cook it with dry season and smoke. Any jagoff can cook a brisket and then slather sauce on it to make their mistakes taste better.
"There is no bad BBQ. Some just aren't as good as others."
Crazy... Harp might not be in the top 10 of anyone i know. Joes is the best, Gates, Arthur Bryants, LCs, Slaps, Q39, Jack Stack, and Rosedale are all better also
I don’t know how Rosedale snuck in there but I’m sure there’s a good reason. I can’t argue with the others, however, Char Bar, Chef J and The Woodyard need consideration. I don’t know but I think friends, family and a marketing firm are writing the good reviews about Harp. That or I went there on a very very off day. 🤷🏻♂️
@@bruceayers8384couldn’t agree more
Gates and Arthur Bryants are name only remnants of something that was once good, decades ago. Neither is anything close today to what it was in quality. The rest, yeah, but Harp definitely is in that Joes/Q39 caliber of spots opened over the last 30 years in KC.
Tyler a good dude. Glad you put it together homie. Gonna come see you with the fam. Congrats man.
It will be an honor to eat at this restaurant someday. Nice video. My dad is my mentor and hero as well.
Can't say I'd ever go back....
What didn't u like
@@Rollbackwalmart probably the price
Joe's hands down. Everyone in KC knows Joe's is best.
bigly disagree on this rating but bbq ratings are contentious and opinions are like assholes, we all have one. nicely made video, very well done. -your excellency
Best BBQ in Raytown ?
This is my favorite place to go to and I enjoy it everytime I go!
Just saying something is the best does not make it so. Harp BBQ is not the best and I’ve got a list! I tried Harp during peak lunchtime on a weekday and was surprised there weren’t more customers, only a handful. I wondered why they weren’t living up to their hype? I soon found out after I placed my order for a Brisket sandwich and loaded potato salad side, both were awful. The brisket was tough and lacked flavor and the potato salad seemed like an experiment gone wrong, it just didn’t taste good - bland and a bad mix of ingredients. Very expensive, nearly $20. I haven’t been back and won’t be going back. The critic from KC Magazine is the only one who touts Harps as being the best in KC. He must live out of town because, in my opinion, he’s out of touch with KC BBQ.
Arthur Bryant’s and Gates, and man I miss Strauds.
@@philipbell3654 Arthur Bryant's and Gates are icons and pioneers; they are not competition quality bbq restaurants. They produce on a mass scale, and sell their sauces and rubs as the standard in Kansas City bbq globally. .. and rightfully so, due to their unique taste. But you might get a piece of leather on certain days. Please don't compare them to Q39, Slaps, WoodYard, or Harps. Totally different business model.
@@williamjacob1496 I haven’t been to those places so I wasn’t comparing but it’s good to know the bbq snobbery is alive and well in KC!🤣
@philipbell3654 he has no idea what he's talking about. Arthur Bryants and Gates are waaay better than Harp or Woodyard. While I agree Q39 and Slaps are good, Arthur Bryant and Gates are definitely in the same convo
I agree. Wasn’t the best
I live like 5 blocks from Harps, and the way they cook their sausages, one bite and you'll screech like a bald eagle.
The best BBQ in Kansas City is made in my back yard lol 😂
This is one of the dumbest f-ing stories about KC BBQ I've ever seen....essentially the guy from Kansas City Magazine (which is an authoritybon trends and popularity, NOT quality) is saying that KC BBQ wasn't good enough until somebody brought in Texas style.... Here's a thought: move to Texas and eat your fiil, D-Bag. Harp's is REALLY good, but to say it's the best in KC, and supoort that by saying it's Texas style is asinine.
What do you like in KC
@frank13621 My favorite has been Smokin' Guns. There are too many great places to list them all, but that's been my go-to for nearly 20 years. To be clear, I'm not saying Harp isn't great - it is. BUT to say it's the best in KC because of the Texas influence is silly and dismissive of Kansas City BBQ.
@@Toms2ATimegood point. I will say, it makes sense why I think it’s the best brisket I’ve ever had. Their sides fall short though.
Agree on KC Magazine’s opinion being far from reality. I’ve always claimed, “there’s no such thing as BAD bbq.” However, Harp is the worst I think I’ve ever had and that could simply be my bad luck on a very off day, idk. They missed on every mark with the biggest insult being the price. My question is, with all the unique home grown places, do we really need Texas style BBQ in KC? Diversity is great but I’m thinking a place like Buck Tui’s would better serve us. To me, it’d be like trying to open a KC steakhouse in Omaha. I mean, why would they want it, they have their own?
This is not the best BBQ in KC by far. It’s pretty good though.
What is some of your top picks for bbq? There’s so many bbq restaurants in KCK & KCMO
@@MooreMeat_KC_BBQ Big 3 are Joes KC, Q.39, Jack Stack. Honorable mention Slaps, Hawg Jawl The nooner sandwich at Gates. There’s so many others. Everyone has their own small shops they like.
No way jack stack is making that list for me. Last time I went it was just flat out subpar. Bad enough I wouldn’t go back. Q39 though any day
@@frank13621 go back. Sure you didn’t go to Jack in the box
Harp, Chef J's, Wolfpack, and Joe's KC are my favorites.
He got to be in Kansas City Kansas cuz he's not better than no Gates and LC's Big t's or Arthur Bryant's
Sides and sauce are not very good at Harp. Meat isn’t bad
Wish they showed the food more 🤷
The guy parked in a handicap spot and working 14 hours days 😂
I didn't realize he is handicapped! Poor feller. Haha.
I try to go as often as possible, especially when having a bad day at work. I love the staff and have never been disappointed with the ribs!
Danny Edward's bbq is really good as well. Love it. Kc BBQ is the best
Gtfoh. Not even close.
Hard to argue with such cogent analysis. God bless.
I went year ago. Good meat, sauce was meh… ketchup with pepper
Great BBQ and a nice guy
Arthur Bryants all day long.
I split an AB's sandwich with Tyler Harp while working on this story. Legendary. Thanks for watching. God bless.
