How can you be sure the arm holes will fit? I am plus size. ;)
Hi Kate, I would definitely do a mock-up first, that shouldn't take too long. you'd want to move the folded edge up a few inches and cut the pattern in half, and add a few inches to make it wider.
Wow...I would go crazy financially in that fabric store,, ; lol...
Oh yeah! I did buy a few pieces and have already used all except the Kitty print, 😺. Hate it when I buy fabric and don't use it!
Technical term: 'Compass' spins an arc a certain distance round a point. 'Protractor' specifies an angle. Example: I want a 23 degree arc at 4.5 inches radius beginning at +18 degrees going in an anti-clockwise direction. I would use a protractor to find my +18 degrees. Starting out with a vertical (straight up) line, moving to the right 18 degrees and marking it, then drawing a line from the centre past the mark. I would subtract 23 degrees (moving to the left on the protractor) to (-5 deg) +355 degrees, mark it, then draw a line from the centre thru this mark. Then, I would take my compass, set it to 4.5 inches and draw an arch from 355 degree to 18 degree. I'm a professional draughts person and learning how to sew. :)
Oh wow, that's a bit over my head! Sewing can get technical, I try to keep it simple so my students are not scared off!
@@FutureFashionDesigners I do draughting by profession, so I need to be up on a lot of very technical maths stuff.
Thank you so much, that's exactly what I was looking for 🙂
So glad to help ☺️ I know when you're traveling you're out all day and don't want to carry stuff with you, so pockets are a necessity! Have a great trip if you're traveling!
Thanks!
Glad to help ☺️. Hope your sewing project turns out great.
Janome is a stand alone company. I have heard that they make Brother machine. No one wants to admit it though. They made Kenmore for many years.
Humm, I was thinking Singer made Janome? I just bought a Pfaff that I have always wanted. I believe Singer owns them too. I don't know who owns the Brother machines, I just know they're really good and don't break. Very important when you own a sewing school!
I know this is an older video but it right on I have thought about altering my armhole like that but I never did it , but thanks to your video I will be doing it thank you so much, happy sewing🪡
Do u need a professional UA-cam thumbnail designer and video SEO expert?
They are so cute
And so comfortable! The perfect combo.
I wonder if matching the notches is to give the extra rise in the back that pants have to accommodate your butt.
Yes, that is what I was thinking, but I don't think that's what it is because you'd have two notches where you would ease it between. It's a mystery 🤷♂️ 🤔
I really need that fabric!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've had it for years, think I found it in the LA fabric district? 🙂
You should have worn and modeled it for your viewers
I believe I did? Video and photo, Humm. It was at the end of the video.
Oh wait, you're right, had a glitch in that video. To late mow. I do have it on the thumbnail.
Very creative!
Thank You! I have saved so many pairs of jeans from the Goodwill pile with this trick 😀
Such a cute video and the pants look great on you. I think I will give them a try!! Thank you.
Thank you :) I love them. I just took them on a trip, easy to roll up and put in my carryon. Let me know how yours turns out!
Thank you for your clear explanation. Pattern Guide sheets assume you already know how to sew! You are a great teacher. Thank you 🙏
You are so welcome! You should see patterns from the 1930s/40s, instructions all on one sheet, and no markings at all on the patterns! Crazy! I guess all could sew back then? Thank you for your kind comment, always nice to hear I helped someone!
I'm going to NY on monday.. we are driving. Where do we park?😅 Can someone tell me the best restaurant, the fabric shop to go to?
I have never driven in the city, way to congested and fast-paced for me. Parking most likely expensive. NYC is a massive transit town. Restaurants, love the ones in little Italy, there is a fun place called Stitched and Houndstooth pub in the garment district. I think I have clips of them on the video there. I also have a video on Mood Fabrics. Have a great time, bring an extra suitcase!
Thank you for helping to figure this out!
You are so welcome, I'm glad to help. Ya, I know. There is that one tricky part when sewing a vest! 🧐
Your positive energy is very high. I love it and I wish you success. Very nice video I am from Iraq, full of love
Thank you for your nice comment 🙂 and thank you for watching!

Ish the demo had been on a light color of cloth, very hard to see n dark fabric
Hi Mary, Yes, this is one of my earlier videos when I didn't know how to lighten my frames. I have since remade the video, you can find it here :) hope it helps. ua-cam.com/video/SKi77ylnZg0/v-deo.html
Hi Shawnelle. I'm a newbie sewist from Kingston, Jamaica. This was a great video! Thank you for the clear explanations and demonstrations.
So glad to help! Welcome to my channel 😁. Be sure to check out all the learn to sew, sewing videos! Keep at it, it gets easier with each project!
Thank you so, so much for this tutorial! I needed the words and step by step in a slow enough speed to really understand the sewing of the side seams. Love it!
So glad I could help! That's the tricky side of making a vest. Really hard to understand on the paper instructions. Good luck on the finishing details!
@@FutureFashionDesigners Thanks again and it turned out perfect!
Thank you! I’m still fairly new to sewing and this was pretty easy!
Glad it was helpful! You will find this kind of hem in many projects, so it's good to learn it in your early days of learning! Keep up your sewing!
Thank you so much for sharing. I have a friend who is more DIY do you think it would be suitable? Not for a hammer obviously but maybe measure tape, nails, screwdriver etc I’m definitely making mine for sewing. I’ve just invested a lot in a high end Janome computerized embroidery machine to update from my previous one. I live in Australia 🇦🇺 and love your fabric. I’ve been to our huge haberdashery store but was unable to find any. I did have some similar material with all sewing notions on but I used it to cover a cushion in my sewing room and I don’t have enough left unfortunately. Thanks again and I am following you and subscribing because I really find you have a lovely personality which is uplifting and you make us feel like we can achieve anything, even though I’m not a first time sewer but I always believe that you can learn new tricks, all through sewing life 😊🙏🏻🌸💖🌺 🧵 ✂️🪡
Hi Joani Thank you for your lovely comment and nice words 😀. It's always nice to hear that I have inspired someone! I found the cute sewing fabrics at Joann's fabrics. If you have a nice fabric but it is too lightweight for your friends DIY apron, you could always use innerfacing. It would definitely work for DIY tools. And you could always put a loop on the waistband for a hammer! And congrats in your new sewing machine! I am considering buying a new Pfaff machine this week. I have always just used very basic machines and have always wanted a Pfaff for some reason. Not the fancy embroidering ones, they are way too complicated for me! What part of Australia are you in?
Amazing!! Can’t wait to fix my skirts I bought recently that were too big in waist and length 4” too long fantastic!! Thank you.
So glad to help! Good luck with your alterations!
Do you have any advice for how to do something similar for those adjustment buttons inside the band of kid's pants? I just bought my 8 y.o. daughter a ton of school clothes she loves but she's in between pant sizes (the buttons are there anyway but it's worse when you have to use them!) and those darn things drive her crazy 🤬 She's actually refusing to wear any pants that have them. At this point, leggings & bike shorts are pretty much our only options 😔 TIA
She sounds like a bit like me. I hate wearing anything with buttons, snaps, or anything that digs into my skin. I have removed many waist bands and replaced them with soft stretchy bands using neoprene or bathing suit type fabric as a wide casing. You could add elastic too. I will put this video on my list to make. I may have one similar in my videos. I will look and let you know.
I have this video that may help. ua-cam.com/video/vNdR2YFtPsI/v-deo.html I will have to make a video about using a wider band of neoprene to replace an uncomfortable waistband. I think many people have this issue. Hope this helps
Love it!!!!😊
What a great idea! Can never have enough pockets!
Right?!
Shawnelle, you’re always coming up with clever ideas to up cycle!
The ideas just keep coming! 😄
Thank you so much for your videos. I've been wanting to learn how to sew for such a long time but I was always "scared"/ intimidated to start. Now I've become disabled and am not really able to sport/go out so I really needed to learn/get some new hobbies.. Got this pattern pack for my fiance and am nearly done with my first garment ever! Couldn't have done it without you, thank you so much!❤
prep is very important !!! thank you
Yes it is! Better to spend time on the prep instead of time fixing mistakes!
Darts have been used for centuries to make garments that fit. Straight cut blouses take no notice of breasts!
It may come as a shock that not all women want to emphasize their breasts. 😉 And women have had breasts for centuries. 🧐 Look back to the 1920s when foundation garments were designed to flatten the breast's. 😲
Thank you soooooo much for this video! I am traveling to Italy next year and ROME specifically and had been searching for videos to have some idea of how to find beautiful fabric and found nothing. And then stumbled on your video! This was so helpful you have no idea! God bless you.
So glad to help! There are a lot of great fabric stores there for sure! Hope you saw part 2 Rome stores also! If you're also going to Florence, I just added that video to the playlist a few weeks ago. So far, Rome has had the best variety of stores. Happy traveling, let me know how it goes!
Thanks for the instruction, very helpful!
So glad I could help ☺️ Good luck on your pockets!
I need help? Can you help me? I want to make a bolero or shrug out of a man's XL linen shirt. Reason is I want to match my husband, I bought him the shirt with linen pants, I found myself a linen sleeveless simple ankle length dress, and I want something over that will be 3/4 length but match his shirt, thus I boughtb an identical shirt. Will it be possible to redesign this shirt???? I need answer soon 07-15-2024. For an outdoor wedding July 27 in HOT TEXAS SUN
Hi, I'd suggest first making a sample of the shrug pattern out of muslin and seeing where you can cut and add seams to create the length of the pattern. A sample will help you see how the pattern looks on. Also, using the center front button facings along the shrug neckline could be fun and maybe use the cuffs in the arm area of the shrug. Or,t cut your shirt short, rehem , do some shaping, and turn it into a bolero. There are so many shirt styles, not sure what you have, hope I helped with some ideas for you.
I know this is an older video, but it was EXACTLY what I was looking for to fix a halter top I'm making. Thank youuu
So glad to help! Hope your halter top works out great 😉
Why aren't your video views increasing? And not reaching people? The reason is: 1. Your video is not being SEO properly 2. Your video is not reaching the right people 3. Not using video hash tags properly 4. Not sharing the video on social media Your video is awesome. Such videos are in great demand. If you do these things correctly. Hopefully, you will get a lot of visitors. Feel free to ask me any questions.
Link didn’t work.
Hi Susie, Thank you so much for letting me know. For some reason the link diverted? But think I got it fixed. Let me know if it doesn't cooperate! mailchi.mp/6f1314b6da59/caftan-pattern
Love the material and the tutorial BUT you didn't show the finished product on you soooooo disappointed 😏
I did, it's in a photo at 19:39. I was explaining how cold it was out at the pool and I put it on over my clothes to atleast get a photo. And it looked way better on my niece, her photos are after that. Now I need to make myself one!
❤ Very cute, love the fabric and turquoise pom poms. I don't see the link for the pattern?
Hi, Having trouble with my scanner. Should be up soon!
okay, think its working. I'll be waiting for pictures of your caftan! mailchi.mp/fb624c36569e/caftan
It's helpful as i have a summer knit dress that gapes at the armholes. I was thinking darts, but I really didn't want that. These options seem better. Thanks for sharing!
It works great with most of these pesky gaps. Sometimes it doesn't get it all out but a little gap is better than a big gap! Good luck on your alteration! Hope it works great 👍
Couldn't see what was happening, with the dark thread and matching material.
Hi Linda, yes that was before I learned how to lighten the exposure on my editing program. I made another video that is lighter. You can check it out here. ua-cam.com/video/SKi77ylnZg0/v-deo.html
I am going to Rome in September and want to visit all this fabric stores. Thank you for sharing!
So many great stores! Be sure to leave some extra space in your suitcase! Enjoy!!
Thanks!!! Well explained!!!
So glad to help! Thanks for letting me know 😃
Your video is so excellent
Glad I could help 😊 Thank you for letting me know. 💚
Love it and will do something similar this weekend. Thanks!
Nice 😊, hope it turns out great. Where ya traveling to? I just made a fun skirt with a lot of pockets. It will make a great travel skirt. And will be out on video soon. 😄
Thank you for you so kind. ❤❤
Glad to help ☺️
That was so innovative and helpful! Thanks!😊
I love that stuff! I always hated making waistbands this made it so quick and easy!
Very nice! I just don’t understand why pins are placed horizontal to the sewing, rather than perpendicular. I’ve always placed them horizontally and just run them over with the seam. One bokeh very few needles. This is how I was taught and I don’t know the advantage.. Thank you!, PS. Why not a skirt hem marking thing, you squeeze a bulb with chalk . Are they not made anymore?
Hi Teresa, I tend to place the pins depending on each project on this hem the horizontal helps hold down the area better. Helps prevent the stretching. I rarely sew over pins, I only do that when I'm working with very slippery fabric or velvet. The chalk markers are great I have two of them but I rarely use them. You use them when you are marking uneven hems. This tutorial was just for a basic hem technique. But good idea on the chalk marker, that would be a good video 😀
In Italy now. Thank you for the information. Best part of travel is visiting the fabric stores.
Nice! Be sure to let me know if you find any I haven't discovered yet in this video! And if you're going to Rome, I have two videos on those! And videos on the Gucci museum and Ferragamos museum. Enjoy your trip!
Hi Shawnelle! I Love the fabrics!!! Getting ready to sew my first Rosie Skirt! Practice one first then... on the beautiful floral fabric from Italy!😊
Oh my gosh, I can't wait to see it! Are you going to trim it in the pink color? I have to get started on the green linen, soon summer will be over! Be sure to send me a photo!
