      There was normally 1 person you knew that had a colour telly so everyone went round to watch that. They were a bit orange! Snooker was the main benefactor as Ted Lowe once said ‘for those of you watching in black and white, the pink is next to the green’ classic! I remember watching West Brom v Stoke in black and white.....both in their first team strips.....couldn’t tell what the hell was going on!

      I was a Bookie at Catford Stadium:) In 1983 I just moved 10 miles to Bexley and it's been a great move. I was looking at the hundreds of people in my local park yesterday for a fun run and thought how traditional English/British my area is still and I am still in the same house. If we were still at The Old Den I would go much more often but I really enjoyed the 3 recent games I went to which were Stoke 2/1, WBA 2/0 and Palace in the Cup and have finally, after 60 years attending since 1962 decided to regard it as a day out to enjoy the match and not worry about whether we go up or not but just purely for the football and I wanted to go to QPR but work stopped me. Good Luck Michael.

    The Sunderland team that day was almost the same that won the cup in '73. Derek Foster was the youngest goalkeeper to play in the top tier of English football at 15. I felt football was better in those days, less commercial, players stayed at their clubs longer.

    • @19sept76
      @19sept76 7 років тому

      Gus9763 In effect clubs could retain a player. The problem for the club was that they would miss out on a transfer fee which would have been counter-productive to the club. There is more hype today than there ever was. Too many businesses involved. For me personally they have took something beautiful and spoiled it. One thing I will concede is that football had to change or it would have died as a spectator sport..
