It has been a year since the last video. When can we have the next one ? This channel is wonderful. I love that I could see the notes with the music together which makes the whole listening experience so much more enjoyable!

These masses by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Haydn are symphonies to God. I know that Bach wrote Soli Deo Gloria on everything he wrote whether sacred or secular…..don’t know if Mozart had a relationship with our Lord but I would kinda hope that He threw him a bone after hearing this. This plus Bach’s B minor mass are my two deserted island pieces. Incredible music and performance. Bravo!

Finally a recording that plays it at the correct tempo. There are WAY too may recordings that play this too fast.

Who are the performers?

From the best recording ever of Macbeth, led by Abbado, with Verrett, Cappuccilli , Domingo and the forces of La Scala. The second complete opera recording I purchased, nearly fifty years ago. Bravi!!!

The introduction to the requiem is slower than usually performed I LOVE IT! Really brings out every tear and bit of emotion. Truly a great composer Mozart, the legend. Never forgotten! RIP

This is fantastic music and being able to also see the score, especially of the voices is great. Unfortunatelly this is not the best performance out there. At the beginning the tempo is slightly slower. The tempo is indicated as "adagio", but even at the slowest interpretation than "adagio" at 55 BPM, this still feels slower. It seems also as if the vocalists are slightly lagging behind the orchestra. From the beginning, I just can't help but hear how something like "perpetua" is pronounced like "pyerpetua". At "Te decet hymnus…" The soprano sings way faster compared and is just out of synchronisation with the orcestra. I am not sure what was going on with the conductor. As for the score, I think it would be better if you kept naming the instruments and the voices (perhaps just with short forms or the first letter) as this is a video and I do not have it on paper, it is inconvenient to come back to the beginning to see that. The voices are ordered from highest (soprano) to lowest (bass), however keeping track of the instruments is not as easy. This is undoubtedly some of my favourite music and I have listened to it hundreds of times, including many times in person. Unfortunately, I find this particular performance rather underwhelming. I certainly hope my criticism does not offend anyone. This is only my personal opinion.

It gets really meaningful to hear this piece when you know what the words mean. Thus may be one of my favorite pieces. Definitely my top 10.
