#AskHer: Championing Change in Early Care and Education
In our latest #AskHer webinar, Early Care and Education (ECE) leaders from across the region-Allison Gilbreath, Senior Director of Policy and Programs at Voices for Virginia's Children; Kimberly Perry, Executive Director of DC Action; and Erica Williams, Executive Director of DC Fiscal Policy Institute-gathered to discuss the state of the nonprofit sector and the challenges and opportunities it faces today.
The conversation highlighted the transformative impact of ECE organizations while critically examining how traditional structures and cultural norms in the nonprofit space can hinder growth and inclusivity. Panelists shared strategies for dismantling these barriers to foster more equitable and sustainable practices. They also addressed systemic issues limiting the sector’s potential, exploring innovative pathways to build resilience and longevity.
With inspiring examples from their own work, Allison, Kimberly, and Erica highlighted how ECE organizations continue to adapt and provide critical support to our communities.
The session was moderated by Abriana Kimbrough, ECE Program Officer at The Women's Foundation.

Unless and until you acknowledge that most black girls who are lucky enough to reach the age of 18 have been sexually rode hard and put up wet by the men in the community, and that women and girls as a collective are unprotected by the men in our community, not to mention growing up without fathers which leads to poor choices when choosing romantic parnters. I hope this is not another effort to put bandaids on a cancer. Sexual degeneracy is our number one problem, mostly from our men.

Thank you for doing this work. I think part of our work as bw is to stop standing up for the men who are doing us the most harm bm. We need to name the men who are harming us the most- bm. We need to only respect men who build, protect and provide.

I happened upon Naomi on an Ellen video today and had to see more. I love this girls courage to speak on what she believes in, in front of large crowds.. At her age, I was terrified to make a 2 minute speech in front of 28 classmates about bears. I felt like I was going to throw up.
