Kin Ming Sports Wellness Talk : Exercises to combat lower back pain
Singapore Judo Club member Kin Ming is trained in field of sports stretching and sports injuries. He is current an assistant coach for Singapore’s para athletes.
Key Takeaways for this talk:
1. One cause of lower back pain may be tight hip flexors, which may cause improper posture and lead to further injuries, esp. in a high impact sport like Judo. Disclaimer: it is always better to seek a doctor's advice for such issues 1st.
2. One key point to take note when working out your butt muscles (glutes): always squeeze them at the top of each rep (deadlift or squats). This is important as strong glutes help to balance out the tight hip flexors.
3. Two easy ways to stretch your quads (thighs) and hip flexors: focusing on tightening your abs and obliques (core) and squeezing your butt will really help in stretching these areas.

    I used this method a lot to move into Yoko-Shiho-Gatame! Also I as does the sensei in the video got the best results by staying up on my knees and moving with my opponent. If I stayed up on my knees and moved with my opponent they could not escape. It is vital to keep one knee very tightly agains the opponent's hip and the other knee close to the opponent's neck. When they tried to turn against me to escape they could not due to my knees being against them. I also controlled their shoulder and arm ( Left sholder and arm in this photo).When they used their free arm, hand, or both (Their right in this picture) to roll me over, I blocked this with my right hand and forearm (in this picture) that I kept on the tatami mat. I used this method mostly. I could move quickly to other pins chokes, and arm locks. Also I often applied an arm lock to their left arm (in this picture) while pinning my opponent in the above method.

    Great jewel about pulling up more so than pulling opponent forward for Kuzushi. Too many teachers say pull to your ears, or look at your watch...but really it seems if you pull mostly up then you get the best effect. Let me know if I miss understand please!

    Isn't it a tai otoshi??

    • @TeamFortress2rl
      @TeamFortress2rl 8 років тому

      Uke's arm is held similar to an Ippon Seoi Nage and Tori's legs work like a Tai Otoshi. So the result is this Seoi Otoshi :)

    • @cortx2lh
      @cortx2lh 8 років тому

      Yeah. I knew this as a variation of Tai Otoshi. Always called it a "one armed tai otoshi". And i thought that in seoi otoshi you needed to bring your leg far behind, not across the uke. But thanks, anyway.

    • @anarchic_ramblings
      @anarchic_ramblings 6 років тому

      'Seoi' means carried on the back. When you wear a backpack, that is 'seoi'. Seoi nage is so called because you lift uke onto your back like a sack. Seoi otoshi is the same technique except that you drop onto your knees and pull uke straight over rather than lifting. Most examples of 'drop seoi nage' are actually seoi otoshi. The 'Korean style' one-armed tai otoshi that you mentioned practicing does NOT involve contact with tori's back and shoulder, and looks like this: ua-cam.com/video/cBMmXIdkYwE/v-deo.html. But here sensei Young makes it clear that there SHOULD be contact with tori's back, so maybe this is different to the typical Korean tai otoshi, and should, indeed, be thought of as 'seoi'. Meh.
