I been training for slightly under 1 year now. Im 5’6 115 pounds male white belt. My meniscus is torn and i have yet to roll with someone under 140 pounds. This is not a hobby but an addiction. It is ruining my body and i am constantly in pain and im not even at 1 year yet. Stay the fuck away from this sport

jiu jitsu is a martial meant for a small japanese man, small people tend to be more flexible and less weight to stress their joints, and also it was never meant to be a sport, BJJ is just a marketing scheme

I would probably take some private classes here and there if i was rich. I trained 2 years a decade ago. I was 26-28 at that time and close to tip top shape. The injury risk is real specially when you spar big and not so techincal dudes who go 100%. I decide the risk aint worth the reward for me. Id still would recommend anybody to try it.

I gotta titanium orbital from ammy mma . Bjj is basically the only thing I have left at 40 . I trained at mostly shooto/pancrase gyms and never trained in a GI . I took some time off and returned with 1 day per week of no gi then going to do 2 days gi . I also still train Muay Thai separately by myself or hitting the pads with friends . It’s so hard not to go in full fight camp mode lol I want to be 50 still doing all of this shit

It's only a superpower for stuff that doesn't really matter tbh. It's a disability for important life aspects like relationships and health I find.

Thanks for the honesty Craig. I've trained 4 years and competed a bunch of times. My body is really hurting at the moment. Knees, stiff neck, ebow, back...Specially the knees, I consider giving it up all the time, I just love to roll too much! Currently trying to balance bjj with stretching, weights and rest days.
