Western Arthurs, TAS - How hard can it be?
How hard can it be? Watch this and wonder.
This is a quick assembly from a full traverse in 2018 of many of the moving elements from iPhone "Live Photos", and a few other images or movies. This assembly is not meant to be a guide or diary, however it provides a good indication of challenging sections of the traverse, and is done in correct sequence up from Junction Creek, through to Western Portal and Lake Rosanne.
There are manually prepared subtitles for the occasional voices recorded, and other information.
Hike Background: Three members of the Victorian Mountain Tramping Club, VMTC (Geoff, John and Carol) and one member from the Adelaide Bush Walkers, ABW (Mal), led by Geoff, spent about 11 days doing the full traverse of the Western Arthurs range, in SW Tasmania. Bad weather delayed us at High Moor, so we spent two extra nights there.
Video Background: This video collation was initially an experiment by Mals Boots in extracting the video files from John's iPhone "Live Photos' , and combing them into one file, so mostly credit goes to John for often hanging back or racing ahead to capture members of the group doing something.

16 Days Hike - Arnhem Land Plateau - Kakadu National Park - July 2021 - VMTC pack carrying hike
Переглядів 3863 роки тому
A 16 day pack carrying hike on the Arnhem Land Plateau above Jim Jim Falls and Twin Falls in the Kakadu National Park, with members of the Victorian Mountain Tramping Club (VMTC). This video is not intended to help plan a trip, rather it is a recap for the participants, most who, on returning home, had shortly to experience yet another lock-down period. But it will give a good idea of the terra...

10 Days - Hiking the South West Cape circuit, Tasmania in January 2021
Переглядів 3,7 тис.3 роки тому
This is a "diary" of a 10 day walk by five members of the Adelaide Bushwalkers club (ABW), of the South West Cape loop in a clockwise direction, starting and ending at the Melaleuca airstrip. This may help with planning the walk. There are no facilities on this hike, water is taken from creeks. This is not an official video by the club, just a personal record by the author. I have now added Cha...
Nice work team. Been there and done that too. A brilliant wilderness experience.
We may have been the group you referred to at 1:35 who signed out from New Harbour on 9 January 2021. You seemed to have received the bad weather we left behind on 16 January 2021. It was great re-living the experience through your lens ua-cam.com/video/zbGpX5qH6sk/v-deo.htmlsi=mqmwEv4NQKop2dhq
Thanks guys, good coverage and much appreciated. Good to see seniors out there doing it! Maybe tone down the background music next time..
Thanks Mal. Great video. We’re planning a similar loop in early 2024 so appreciated the footage of the terrain and the various tips, especially about the tides.
A brilliant track report and very accurate - I share your sentiments regarding the descent from Rabbit Pass - did it in 2018 with rope to lower our packs - the most beautiful pass I have ever traversed, but really don't need to do it again 😅 - my profile pic is actually from the upper Wilkin valley just before the Waterfall Face.
A very intrepid trip. Well done and thanks for sharing. Looks very tough.
Thanks for sharing the walk, Mal. Looks good. We're headed that way this year. Slightly different route but do you happen to have a GPX file or a route drawn on a topo? Cheers, Jack
Looks amazing
yep, that's how I remember it. I tell people, up to Lake Oberon it's a hard walk and after Lake Oberon it's a bloody hard walk. Well done!
Hi Mal, really enjoyed your video and commentary, hard to find any material about this awesome track. thanks heaps. I was wondering if you have any navigating track file that I could use?
Thanks for the beta Spain Bay brilliant shots
Great video Mal, very helpful and some great shots!! Hope you keep sharing videos of your hike and walks!
A really great video to portray a really great trip.
Mal Thanks for sharing this great walk
Brilliant video, thank you for taking the time and effort to create this. Solid effort on the walk, added to my list thanks to your wonderful film , cheers and see you on the tracks, inspirational!
Thanks for the feedback Felix. It is a beautiful area indeed. Definitely only do Waterfall Face/ Rabbit Pass in good dry conditions, as the grass is really slippery even with some dew. Cheers.
Great video.. thank you so much for posting this as I was looking to plan my hike and this is exactly what I needed. Please keep making these videos.
great vid - very informative - planing a similar loop. rugged and remote as hell out there!
A very detailed video of the passes and the area! Thanks for the post :)
Great hike Mal. Beautiful scenery
Hi Mal, great video, thoroughly enjoyed it. Im off to do the same in early March. I got some great information watching it too. Especially the tides and crossing the range. I noticed you tracked your trip. Maybe I could have a copy of the gpx file if possible to help get through the off track stuff. Thanks anyway for sharing
